there until 8:00 p.m. when the blowing dust advisory is over. back to you amber. and as the rain starts to fall across the valley again. visibility is starting to improve in some cases, so right now the blowing dust advisory is in until 8:00, and may get canceled early as the showers work their way across the valley. we have a 20 percent chance of rain tonight. slight chance here across the phoenix metro extending into the overnight hours. what you have to watch out for is gusty winds, and maybe some dust, but the heavy rain and hail threats are low, s light to moderate showers for tonight and early tomorrow morning. it's all because of this low pressure system down to the southwest. it's pulling that moisture in, but it's not just that, we also have a tropical storm, a little farther down to the south, and we're tapping into the some of the moisture from the tropical storm by the end of the week. we'll look at the forecast day by day so you know exactly what to expect coming up. and when news breaks we come over to the live desk, and there's a traffic situation

the intersection closed in all directions, a man trying to turn left on bell was hit by a car going the other direction. the first driver was passed away. again, avoid that area if you can. bell and 35th avenue closed in all directions. >> and also developing tonight, state route 347 by riggs road is back open after several accidents were reported there. air 15 was flying over the scene a short time ago, and the accident shut down both sides of the highway, but we're told they reopened within the last half hour. get your red, blue popcorn ready. the stage is set for what could be the most anticipated event of the campaign season. >> we're about an hour away from the first presidential debate. hillary clinton and donald trump ready to face off on the stage, and we have got you covered on all anglings right now as we -- angles right now as we prepare for the fireworks. >> we have team coverage, and sonu wasu is getting us started. >> reporter: well, this debate is already making history. a lot of people expected to tune in to watch.

a coin toss decides who goes first, and tonight's opening question goes to clinton. the race for the white house tightening with the release ovately new poll. -- of three new polls. one poll has clinton leading by a point, and another has trump leading, and then another shows clinton with a lead, but not by much. here in arizona we're definitely a major player in the upcoming election. typically we're a solid red state, but trump only leads by a few points in polls, and in 1986 arizona did go for clinton. bill clinton that is. so do we feel the same about hillary clinton? melissa blasius tells us what it takes to win in the grand canyon state. >> reporter: i'm here at a watch party where there's a festive atmosphere at the organization, my family votes, but this is also a very serious election for them and for arizona. not only to win arizona do you

campaigns need to change their focus. >> i would say the thing that we should look for tonight is who does the best job of making this election about you and me, not about them. >> reporter: and of course living here in the southwest, there are also a lot of environmental issues that are big deals here in arizona, such as dust policy, energy policy, as well as national water policies that people sitting in these seats will really pay attention to tonight. back to >> yes, i think there were like eight different debate parties we were watching tonight alone. >> and president obama taking on the role of spectator, switching up his monday routine for the show down. >> the president will be working tonight with the television on in the background, not monday night football though, more politics. >> the president's attention to tonight's debate is different than the primaries.

from the morning newspapers. and now less than an hour away, clinton and trump ready for 90 minutes of nonstop action on a stage in new york. watch owl of the fireworks on abc 15 starting at 6:00. later tonight catch a special edition of abc 15 news at 9:00. and at the live desk, a former asu football player got three years probation today for burglary. this is video of williams after he was arrested along with one of his teammates. the pair broke in apartment near campus and stole credit cards, iphones and cash. and this guy is accused of burglarizing the same medical marijuana facility over and over again. they say jeremy raymond was pry open a dumpster and take bags of pot leaves and stems. the cops saw him and it lead to a high speed chase.

well, they tried to be sneaky, but it didn't quite work out. eight people behind bars, accused of trying to struggle drugs through the port of nogales, drugs worth close to $800,000. they were all separate cases within the last week, but the suspects are all in similar trouble. and new information coming out of this. chants and arrests where protesters showed up with a mission to shut down the mill

a new page of controversy for sheriff paul babeu. sources tell us the fbi has subpoenaed records also known as rico funds. critics have said pcso's use of the foundation is like money laundering. and they've also accused babeu of using the funds to fuel his campaign. it may already be illegal campaigning with government resources. or if they're just being used to make the sheriff look good, as he runs for congress. dccc is responsible for the content of this advertising.

a lot of new details tonight in the mall shooting in washington state. the suspect has confessed to shooting the five people. the suspect made a brief court appearance this morning. he's charged with five counts of first-degree murder, and he's accused of going right into the cascade mall in burlington, shooting the victims in just about a minute's time. he was arrested after a 24-hour man hunt. his step father is saying he has mental health issues. glendale police trying to

dangerous rapist on the loose, and detectives are worried he's looking for more victim, and that's where -- victims, and that's where you come in. take a look at this sketch. police fled to get this guy off the -- need to get this guy off the street right now. maryellen resendez is live with more, and how many victims have we talking about? >> reporter: well, so far police know of one, steve, but they say this guy, he was on the hunt. passing our victim as she walked here on 91st avenue several times before making his move under this bridge. >> she said she kept turning around to look and the male would hide behind objects. trees, trash cans, and it really started to concern her. >> reporter: but even with her making eye contact, this bold rapist still stalked, grabbed her by the hair, dragged her where he could rape her by gun

all right, we're back showing the rain and weather alerts. the blowing dust advisory still in effect, but the rain is coming down, and the advisory should expire soon as the showers work their way east to west across the valley. the rain really helping the mat the dust down. and light to moderate showers through phoenix into scottsdale at this hour, and all along the 101 up through scottsdale, down through tempe, and the 202 and 60 eastbound, i should say 202 red mountain and the 60 eastbound getting soaked pretty much all the way across the valley at this hour. farther back to the west a few showers working through buckeye right now, and also goodyear out toward the foothills and i- 10 near tonopah also seeing the light to moderate rain, so this will continue to push out to the west over the next couple of hours, and then we'll have chances for more action overnight and tomorrow. we also picked up the winds, earlier the cause of the dust

gusts at 29 miles per hour in phoenix, and coming in at 32 miles per hour in chandler. it's 82 right now. winds about 17 miles per hour sustained. the dewpoint in the low 50s. temperatures across the valley pretty widespread because some spots have seen rain and some spots haven't, so an average it's low 80s here through the evening forecast as the 20 percent chance of showers remain. still have glendale at 90, and deer valley and scottsdale down mesa 82, and the spots with a little more rain already down into the 70s this evening. across the state, up to the north, 70s in play in prescott and sedona as well. 67 in flagstaff, and down into the 40s there tonight and in show low. 37 at window rock, which will be the coldest spot across the state, and across central arizona in the mid-60s to low 70s in the overnight hours. tomorrow temperatures in the

phoenix 91, flagstaff 64. 91 is about five degrees below average, and not all valley spots hit the 90ings tomorrow. television -- 90s tomorrow. tempe and apache junction at 90, but everyone else around 88 or 89. 87 in anthem. 88 in deer valley tomorrow, and 90 in peoria and glendale for our warmest spots in the west valley. here's how it shakes out hour by hour. starting out in the 70s with you 8:00 a.m. 10:00 10:00 p.m. in the 80s, and a 20 percent chance of more showers in the afternoon. the shower chance in our morning forecast, and then again in the late afternoon and evening as we see the chance of showers, and maybe even thunderstorms come in from the south, so keep it in mind. wednesday still a slight chance of a few spotty showers, but not as active as tomorrow, and then kick up the activity a little more on thursday. chance for a few thunderstorms in the mix thursday as well as

we're tracking the latest developments in the shooting houston. a disgruntled lawyer opened fire hitting six people today. officers say the man had several weapons and started randomly shooting at drivers. one of them remains in critical condition. the man then started shooting at officers. when they got there police returned fire killing him. there are conflicting reports of what fueled this. the abc station in houston are reporting nazi materials were found at the scene and in the

15 desert doppler you can see a lot of rain moving in from the east right now. we have places in mesa, scottsdale, phoenix, and now some of our west valley cities starting to see the light to moderate rain fall. these showers continue to work west over the valley across the next hour or two, and we'll see chances for more go into the overnight forecast and the forecast tomorrow. now tomorrow could look a little different with the threat of thunderstorms tomorrow and again thursday with a 20 percent chance, even a slight chance in between on we overall temperatures look great. below average. low to mid-90s, and it's going to be nice.
