abc15. i'm dan spindle. >> and i'm justin pazera. thanks for joining us. the weather cloudy, maybe some rain out there. >> we've been tracking showers over the last hour or so across the phoenix metro. started the day drive. and look at the time lapse. the clouds roll in across the valley. and we saw a few light showers push through and still seeing the scattered clouds this morning. but a few more pockets of clearing behind the showers that line that moved through initially is pushing to the north and the west valley. it slowly starts to clear the west valley. and in the southeast valley. i'm watching another area of showers moving back to gilbert and mesa. those will track to the west, northwest. moves into scottsdale, possibly tempe and central phoenix.

showers. no lightning with the showers. some wet roads are a possibility as you head into the lunch break over the next hour or so. and the rain chances staying in the forecast as we go into the afternoon. we'll talk more about the storm chances and know that today's high temperatures struggling to warm to the upper 80s to low 90s this afternoon. we'll talk more about the storm chances later -- next. a couple of breaking updates. first to sun city where sheriff's deputies have their guns drawn at a pawnshop break- in. nick ciletti has the latest. >> reporter: we're standing feet away from where all of this took place. you can see that white utility van. looks like it backed into the store front, slamming into the windows in a smash and grab situation. let's get you brand new video.

maybe a little bit after about this man having plowed through the front. and we were told that they were searching for suspects and maybe believe that the time the suspects were still inside. we could see mtso and s.w.a.t. with guns drawn and we're still working to figure out if they were able to bring anybody into custody. that's something we'll work on trying to figure out. >> we don't have th happen around here. that's crazy. >> reporter: mtso will be wrapping up shortly. and we'll be working our sources to try and get more information on what exactly happened. reporting in sun city, nick ciletti, abc15. to a deadly shooting involving a border patrol agent leaving a maricopa neighborhood covered in crime scene tape.

the latest. >> reporter: jeremy russo was a border patrol agent. his daughter called 911 when the couple got in a fight. he went to the second story and started shooting at police out the window. bullets went flying everywhere up and down the street. no officers were hurt and russo's family was able to escape. we watched officers canvas the neighborhood. take a look at the second story window. you can see a bullet hole in the upper right pane. this is 850 feet away from where russo was standing. they found him dead inside his home but it's unclear if he was shot or took his own life. the shootout got so dangerous that officers had to be

were sent. >> police had no history with russo and they say this investigation will take quite some time. katie conner, abc15 news. i-17 is back open after a deadly crash overnight. a driver broke down on the freeway in the middle of the night. that's southbound near 7th street. four people pulled over and one of them was changing a tire and a pickup truck plowed right into them. the man trying to change the tire was killed. it's suspected that the driver who caused the crash was impaired. donald trump and hillary clinton taking the war of words to the same stage in new york. stephanie ramos has the details. >> this may have been the highest rated debate ever.

i had my pumpkin spice latte this morning. and the temperature is under 90 degrees. but is it going to stay that way. for a few more hours, it is. that's keeping the temperatures down. sitting at 80 degrees right now. it's been a slow warmup. as we look over downtown phoenix we have the thicker, scattered clouds. and you can see pockets of the sky behind the clouds, and we're tracking heading to central phoenix. light rain pushes across the east valley. and moving west. if you're heading to lunch in the next 30 minutes or so. 30 minutes to an hour if you're in the west valley. the showers will continue to push through and could make for a wet drive to lunch in the next hour or so. and you may need to take it slower on the roads. we're tracking the rain on the

and over the scottsdale airport. and we've got more east of there moving through gilbert. and areas along u.s. 60. the loop 202 getting the rain. and rain falling in guadalupe. and showers moving to central phoenix. spots like scottsdale and eventually glendale. if these showers hold together. they'll push in your direction. so we've got showers pushing through now. once the batch pushes through, we'll get a bit and storm chances still in the forecast. another spot is out over the higher terrain to the northeast. young getting in on the showers. payson, the showers will track to you next. and showers also in the northwest part of the state impacting kingman and bull head city too. eventually moving into california. a lot to watch around the state. as we go into the evening.

arizona closely. that's where the showers that are moving through now developed. with the daytime heating, we could see more storms develop in these areas, and the storms will have the potential of moving into the phoenix metro. the showers and storms that increase in moisture, also the breezes that we've felt all due to the area of low pressure. it's been off to the southwest. it's finally starting to move north. and it's going to impact our state today, tomorrow, thursday. so we'll see the showers from this morning continuing to push west, northwest through the valley. and we'll watch areas to the south. and see redevelopment down there. and those storms could move into the phoenix metro. as more storms start to fire up to the south they should start pushing north. the chances for rain in the forecast with lingering rain chances to thursday. tomorrow's potential looks a little bit better across the

sales fell 7.6% in august after surging in july. sales are up 20% from a year ago. you may be paying a little bit more at the gas pump. a third of all vehicles sold in the united states will drive one less mile per gallon on the highway. drivers are using air- conditioning, driving faster, and utilizing things that electricity use. the senate will vote to override the veto of the so called 9/11 bill. if congress succeeds, it will be the first time a veto has been overturned in president obama's time in office. the president argues that it would lead to a slippery slope for the u.s. military members to be sued in other countries.

devastating flooding in iowa. more than 10,000 people are being evacuated as the cedar river rises. it's expected to crest at 23 feet. the town is under a flood warning null sunday. one person dead and two in critical condition as a driver slammed into a bus stop after getting hit by another car. a couple in their 70s and their daughter were hit. the husband passed away. the driver crash took off. a dis-guesting story. two children were found dead and their mother was arrested on murder charges. they were found in a car matching the description of the alert outside a police station. police have not said why the children were abducted. as you can see, we're not fooling. 80degrees is what it says in the corner.

it's very light and not everybody is seeing the showers. first to the valley cam. a lot of these showers pushing now into the northeast valley and starting to push further northwest. central phoenix getting clipped by light showers. because they are starting to transition to the northwest, you'll miss out on the rain. the rain will continue to from fountain hills, and continue to push northwest to the higher elevations. we'll be watching that over the next hour or so. a lot of the light greens indicating that the rain is very light. just rain pushing to the north, no lightning. and there's nothing behind it. after this batch of showers pushes northwest and out of the valley. we'll catch a break in the action. we could see more showers and

this evening. we'll have to watch southern arizona as the same area where the morning showers pushed in from. and tomorrows fire up down there and could -- the 20% chance of rain. and then the lull kicks in. and we'll see another 20% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms once we get into this evening. still important to keep the abc 15 mobile app handy. >> storms will have the chance for stronger wind gusts. we saw a little bit of the dust getting kicked up earlier. we'll have to watch for that again as we go into the evening. and the threat of pockets of heavier rainfall. a 20% chance for thunderstorms.

tucson for more development. the best chances will be over the mogollon rim. showers south of you. and the showers in the valley will push into bumblebee and off to the northwest. the rain chances continue across the high country and the chances are higher than in the valley. watch for storms to redevelop to the south. and the phoenix metro of the i think by this evening, after 5:00 is when the chances start to go back up again. we'll keep a lingering chance in the forecast. and then tomorrow the chance expands across north arizona. by thursday, we get more showers and thunderstorms across eastern arizona.

rain chances stick around. slight chances going into tomorrow before we start to dry things out. we'll keep the breezes around. and we'll get gusts near 25 miles per hour. once these showers push through, we'll warm our temperatures up to near 91 degrees as we head into the mid- afternoon. back to the low 80s by 8:00. as you look at the high temperatures around the valley. again today, below average highs. 30 year average is 96 and tomorrow we'll see -- 92 at lake havasu. and notice the highs in the 60s to 70s. on the a cool night in the phoenix metro with 40s and 50s across northern arizona. partly cloudy skies overnight
