a valley mother taking action after rushing her children to the hospital with a scare at a walgreens store. the common item that you may have at home that has her worried sick. good morning. this is abc15 morning. breaking news with mallory tracking the traffic but iris, rain? yeah. we are tracking showers before the monsoon ends, and it's going out with a bang. that's for sure. rain in the east you will see the most wet roads, apache junction, mess a gilbert, scottsdale, fountain hills and along state route 51. even though the west valley is pretty quiet right now we have more showers to the south and they'll be moving north across the phoenix metro through the morning. our chances for rain will stick around for the morning commute. we're sitting right at 80

lunchtime with a high of 95. more storm chances later. i'll breakdown the hour-by-hour forecast. but mallory, you're watching the wet roads. yeah, definitely seeing the west valley. let's look at the adot camera, u.s. 60, it doesn't look bad at this point. but the ramp and freeway, you can see the shiny road conditions. you probably need to slow your speed down a bit. because of that in the east valley and all along the 17, the desert drive time, just 15 minutes. this is southbound from the 101 to the i-10 stack. we'll give you a look at the north valley commute in a couple minutes. i want to let everyone know of the homicide investigation unfolding in phoenix where a man was found beaten to death. justin pazera is learning more

justin? >> reporter: chris, i just spoke with family and got this photo of the victim. i just got this photo from the family a few seconds ago. let's set the scene, and you can see it happened at this house right here. and not only do you have to deal with losing a family member, but the family, they told me that they have to clean up the mess inside from the brutal murder. so they police--well, the family said that police were called to the home yesterday for a welfare check. when police got here, they found the victim dead inside. the family said he was beat tonight death. at this point, we don't have official word from phoenix police on a suspect but i did speak with the family, and they say they believe they know who did this and that the car is

liberatarian candidate gary johnson. he is set to appear, we just found out, in a rally in phoenix on saturday. sheriff arpaio not having as much luck with his legal woes. he will not be paid for the broken shoulder in 2013. he tried to sue the owners and tripped, claiming that the building was not up to code. the judge said arpaio should have without hurting himself. the county tried to remove itself from the lawsuit. we have more on the lawsuit with opponent paul penzone coming upment. danielle, at 5:05, we are monitoring an active scene. this is a house fire with the flames right there. our crews were on the scene quickly at 15th and mcdowell. this is just south of the that location, and turns out, we have learned this was an abandoned home.

injuries to report. >> kind of giving back. that's what we're meant to do, give back. she said they are not heroes. jody jepson and her husband, dean, were just doing the right thing when they helped to catch a hit and run driver, juan baltazar. he told police he was speeding and drinking and crashed into a van backing out of a droifer at stainley road. he tried to runoff. but they saw him and tracked the suspect until police caught up. jody helped with first aid for people badly hurt in the van. makes you feel good about humanity. right, danielle? love stories like that. a close call for a valley mother after she feared her 2- year-old daughter swallowed batteries for a hearing aid.

door. a few spotty showers in central phoenix and more showers to the southwest that could move into the west valley as we go into the morning. so the chance is there that you could get caught under rain heading into work especially in the east valley. mesa to apache junction. we are seeing pockets of more moderate to heavy rain along the loop 202 where it swings around over to the south mountain or rather the san tan valley loop 202, i should say. we are from south to north across the valley and a few showers in central phoenix pushing north into cave creek and again, more showers to the south moving our way. as we go throughout morning, 9:00, a 30% chance of scattered showers in the forecast. so right in the scattered rain, it will move north into the high country. we are not clearing it out completely, but a 10% chance of

early afternoon before we get another boost with storms firing in the surrounding areas. we could see a few more scattered showers or storms moving in this evening. so today, an active weather day. you may want to toss the umbrella in the back seat of your car. we'll talk about when we'll dry out next. we are already starting to see a little bit of slowing on the 10 in the west valley. minor at this point but at 43rd is where you'll see that, and th here, a 6-minute desert drive time from 75th to the 17th. the east valley, wet roads on u.s. 60 at gilbert road. just take it easy, and the crash at mcclintock, that has now cleared. we'll give you a look at state route 51 next. a growing trend when it comes to lighting up in our state. the health department is excited about the numbers.

know. let's talk about the most accurate forecast. 5:18, and if you're just waking up with us, you will walk out to this in the east valley, rainfalling. this is video from earlier but we are tracking showers across the east valley. wet roads and notice that the rain chances are sticking around. right now when you step outside, temperature wise, 70s to low 80s across the valley and that's where we'll stay with a mild start to the day and the dew points at 60 degrees. we're getting a boost in moisture and it will feel more humid. oursunriseat 6:21. as you walk out the door, watch out for rain especially in the east valley. right now, heavier rain falling along loop 202 and apache junction and scattered showers in central phoenix and more

again seeing pockets of heavier rain along loop 202. mallory will have an update on the roads. we have some of the rain in gilbert and in central phoenix at least along state route 51 and loop 101, and cave creek, you're getting in on the rain and anthem, you're getting some of the showers. the west valley, you've been quiet with the showers but more on the way estrellas and will affect the 10. the showers will become more widespread showers and thunderstorms across northern and eventually eastern arizona. this midday will be quieter for us in the valley. by later this afternoon and evening, we could see a few pop ups closer to the phoenix metro. here is how the rain chances break down, 30% chance this morning and 10% after 9:00 a.m. and another bump in the storm

officers open fire on a suspect. a 33-year-old man got into a fight forcing 1 officer to draw his gun and shoot the man in the stomach. the suspect is in the hospital and is expected to survive. no officers were hurt. protesters back out in the streets in el cajon following the police shooting and death of a man near san diego. witnessessay that he was unarmed. meantime, the aftermath of the oo video, and take a look. we know that he has valley ties and lived in glendale as recently as 2015. policesay he had an object in his hands and looked like he was pointing that at officers and he refused to put it down. now they believe it was a vaping device. >> i think it's time we take this transparency and repeal that bill. a new police body camera

ready to step outside. the valley temperatures dropping into the 70s this morning. 77 in chandler, and deer valley and glendale, both checking in at 79. mesa, though, you are cooler at 73, and the reason is because you had showers rolling through. and we have rain-cooled air in the northeast pocket of the valley right along or not northeast pocket but the northeast pocket of mesa along loop 202, tracking the showers. es southwest to northeast and we have more spotty showers to the south that will move across this morning so our rain chances in the forecast through the morning commute. a few showers and thunderstorms near show low and pinetop lake but this area north will see more rain as we go through the day, and the valley rain chances will stay in the forecast through the morning with slight chance this is afternoon. i'll show what you that looks

light showers with maybe an isolated storm through the morning commute. watch you on the showers push from south to north and 9:00, lifting north from anthem into the higher terrain as the rest of the valley quiets down a bit. a lull in the action midday through the valley as the rain lifts north into the higher terrain. this afternoon as showers and storms develop off to the east, we could see a few of them clip by the southeastern zone and the east valley as well. and that's where the afternoon storm chance comes in and something that we'll be watching before we gradually start ought tomorrow, drier by the weekend. 95 today and tomorrow, mid-90s and 90s sticking around through the weekend, and much cooler air next week, highs only in the 80s. i'll break down the hour-by- hour forecast coming up. mallory? you will be slow on the i- 17 back to glendale because of
