we have the real treat coming tomorrow. laura's on deck with that run down. >> it is a really big week in the race for the white house. we have trump in arizona on tuesday. we have the vice presidential debate. the new york times has come out swinging pushing the trump campaign into overdrive. 40th street and broadway closed. a 6-year-old thrown from the back of a truck. >> reporter: that's exactly right. you can see a tow truck just arrived on scene. this intersection has been closed for nearly 7 hours now, probably because of the severity, the 6-year-old being thrown from the back. the child only one seated inside at the time of the crash. police say they were not

seats, nothing. the driver is in the blue dodge pickup over here. this is the one police say is responsible for all this. admitting to police he was drunk and high, running the red light here. he'll definitely be facing charges, at least the dui. if the 6-year-old passes away, there could be much more. the driver with the kids inside, we're told that is the grandfather of these children. another woman was with him in th both of them also take ton the hospital. it is not necessarily illegal for them to have those kids in the back of the truck. it is an issue to have a kid in the back of a car without any restraints. right now everyone's focus is on that 6-year-old boy who we last heard is in surgery. >> we'll be updating if anything breaks on that story. back to this story.

we go into tomorrow. more coming up. breaking news on that train crash in new jersey. one of the two data recorders recovered from the wreckage turns out was not working the day of the crash. what you're looking at just released from the ntsb as soon as they got to the train station for that investigation. all we know about this video, a driver of a hummer pulled over for a traffic violation allegedly got busted with a bunch of weapons too. this is ne campbell. the driver was taken away in handcuffs but that's all the information police have given us so far. back to decision 2016. front page in new york times is major. it claims donald trump may have transformed almost $1 billion in losses into huge tax benefits. while that's happening, the candidate himself lobbing new attacks at rival hillary clinton. mary bruce picks it up from

sheriff paul babeu was headmaster at desisto school in massachusetts. a boarding school rife with abuse. a lot of things went down that probably shouldn't have. this isn't about abuse or neglect, because none of this was found. except these records show the state found it, students and parents testified about it, and a judge ordered it to stop. the cornering, the sheeting, i didn't know how to live and function as a normal human being. i'll end with that, thank you so much.

flickering in the night to honor gabby. >> reporter: they used to come to this park, the mother tells me, when she was a child. and she would feed the ducks at the nearby pond, but it was today just a little more than a week when that gruesome discovery was made. we spoke with her mother friday as well. her daughter was supposedly sleeping over at a friend's house. now they're asking for anyone wh day to come forward. the family wants justice because they can't imagine who would do this to their daughter and then dump her in the canal. the mother told us about their encounter just two days ago. >> i hugged her and i said i love you, and i'm just glad that i got to say that, that day before she was gone.

a gloomy start to the valley here on sunday morning. into the afternoon and evening hours, look at that clearing back to the 76 degrees after topping out at 86 today. east winds picking up at 14 miles an hour. we do have a few showers out to the east. still keeping spotty rain chances through about 7:00 o'clock. those temperatures will continue to fall as we get into the 8:00 o'clock hour. about a 10% chance of rain. after 9:00 o'clock, rain chances are done in the valley.

winds at 8 miles an hour. stronger winds across the high country today where we have gusts at this hour between 30 and 35 miles an hour at the grand canyon and kingman. those wind speeds will be picking up tomorrow. we've been watching this moisture move in out ahead of a storm system back to the north west. bringing in drier air behind a cold front. look at these dew temperatures in the 60s. that rain moving through throughout the afternoon. you'll see where these showers started earlier this morning now continuing through the white mountains. even southeastern arizona picking up on a little bit of rainfall with drier air moving back to the west. again, these rain chances will be coming to an end for the valley and much of the state as we go through the next couple

69 in prescott. bull head city, court side right now 93. 56 in flagstaff. storm system continues to move to the east and the southeast. the main low, the main storm system stays to the north so we're not looking for rain chances across the valley. we'll be on the backside of this low. that brings in temperatures behind the front. gusts tomorrow afternoon around 20-25 miles an hour with temperatures topping out in the 80s. even southeastern arizona looking for a few gusts near 20 miles an hour tomorrow. 42 in flagstaff tonight. back in the 60s tomorrow. statewide we see much cooler highs, 80s out west. 80s here across the valley. a quick look at the valley
