roads right now, speeds on all the valley freeways nice and green. even i-17 southbound, no problems. a crash off the 17 now, really the only one we have right now, 43rd avenue and thunderbird. you could take cactus and 35th inead. we'll look at the north valley drive in a few minutes. a suspicious fire is under investigation in north phoen at this hour. and a family here is looking for a place to stay. the question, could they have been targeted? >> reporter: just imagine sitting down for dinner with your family, then you hear a pop and see your balcony on fire. that's what happened to the couple with their two young children inside. they were able to make it out

his hand from trying to put that out himself. saw a lot of fire extinguishers on the ground. the fire started on the first floor and could have spread within minutes to the second and third floor. thankfully phoenix fire got out here and got this under control. they were able to save about 90% of the family's personal belongings. they just have to figure out at this point how it just after the top of the 5:00 hour and you won't believe this story is true. new this morning, we are learning disturbing new details on a prescott valley woman blamed in the death of her baby. court documents reveal that angela clark was having sex with her exwhile the baby was drowning. she sent this text right before

on an immigration hold. after years of backlog, maricopa county and phoenix police are getting more than $2 million in grants to test rape kits. it will help with new training and evidence processing. years ago, an investigation uncovered at least 1500 untested rape kits, many of them not tested because the victim knew their attacker. this year police ended that practice, moving toward aggressive approach. a series killer still roaming free on valley streets somewhere. police want you to take another look at the sketches and descriptions this morning. it might be quiet right now but you can't forget. a sweetheart deal not looking so sweet. why city council members want a $180,000 payout to a former ceo, they want it back.

pot debate. >> and a wildfire sending hundreds from their home. the heartbreaking way people found out their homes were gone. we'll hear from them. this morning we take you to opening statement in the murder trial of justin ross harris, prosecutors questioning how he could forget to drop his 22- month-old off at daycare, especially after the two had breakfast at this chick-fil-a down the from his office, where the boy died. cooper harris was trapped in a rear-facing car seat for more than 7 hours. this shows his father checking on the car in the middle of the day. police say while his son was dying outside, the married father was sexting with other women. harris is charged with murder and second-degree child cruelty. he's pleading not guilty, saying it was an accident.

buckeye when he was jolted wan electrical current. he was an electrician and it is unclear exactly what caused the deadly accident. police have identified the man who died heading to a valley football game. the 46-year-old gerard msuvis was heading to the game at scottsdale christian academy. the driver is not expected to face any charges. three city council members demanding the payout for a former steven banta is under investigation for embezzlement and fraud. an audit revealed he had more than $315,000 in questionable expenses. city council members are saying they want the money to be deducted from valley metro. that will be discussed at tomorrow's council meeting. we have more than a month to go until election day and dueling marijuana campaigns are

trump's rally in prescott valley. 5:32. there's been a serious crash in glendale. this is 51st avenue and orangewood, just south of northern. right there at that intersection of orangewood, we can see the crime scene tape up as well. >> reporter: they just put up minutes ago. you can see the blue jeep cherokee flipped over and there's a car on the other side. when we got here about 10 minutes ago, we saw one person being taken out of that car that's been rolled over, and another being rushed to a nearby hospital. right now the two south lanes are shut down on 51st avenue. so from orangewood all the way to gardenia, the southbound

children out and they were able to make it out but the dad had some cuts on his hands because he was trying to put out that fire himself. this was a really dangerous situation because that fire started on the first floor. >> the fire started on the first floor. this could have easily gotten to the second or third floor within a matter of minutes. fire crews did a great job getting this thing controll to save about 90% of the family's belongings. now they have to figure out how the fire started. right now a phoenix boy is in critical condition after a jeep collided with a school bus. the woman driving the jeep died. we still don't know what caused the crash. we forgot.

katie, what's the situation? >> reporter: right now the southbound lanes are closed. we have switched sides this morning and you can see the two cars involved in this crash early this morning. we know two people were rushed to a nearby hospital. the driver of the car on the right-hand side was actually rushed to the hospital with a broken leg. take a look at this video from the other side of the scene. you can see the blue jeep cherokee flipped over on side. this driver had to be extricated. i talked with police and they tell me both drivers are expected to survive but police will be out here investigating for at least another 30 minutes. again, the southbound lanes are blocked right now. >> this is going to be 51st avenue and orangewood. right between northern and glendale, you can't use the southbound lanes. your smart route this morning,
