there will be some delays. not just today, over the next month. at least 30 days. justin pazera is live at sky harbor. the delays will be helpful in the long run. you have to have a long-term strategy. >> reporter: that's right. especially if you travel in and out of terminal three. you can see one of these security checkpoints are already shut down because of a major renovation. this security checkpoint will also be shut down. they will consolidate it. it won't look anything like it does they have to shut down a runway to make this happen. they will run electrical lines from the substation to terminal three which will cross the north runway. they're going to do new repairs, new striping and led lighting. you need to check on at least 30 minutes to your travel time, especially during p travel times which is 7:30 a.m. through 10 am and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. if you know someone that will

things out around your house. pretty quite overnight. some high clouds were rolling in yesterday evening. -- clouds drifting in and making for a beautiful sunset. we have some of them this morning. as we go through the day you will still see abundant sunshine. then high clouds scattered across the skies. we will call it mostly clear skies through the day today. dry conditions with temperatures still below average. 68 now. down into the mid-60s across the valley and then from there we start to warm. i think the 70s move back in by 8:00 in the 80s move in by 11:00. we will warm into the 80s by 11:00 and continuing to warm from there, up to 90 degrees. 90 around 4:00 and then the temperature will stop climbing before we start to cool back down with mid-80s by 8:00.

that is still a couple of degrees below average for this time of year. desert doppler is all dry despite the high clouds across the state. we will eventually be tracking a storm system to our southwest . we are pulling in some moisture. that is bringing some high clouds today into tomorrow. no rain the next couple of days. it actually will be until saturday that disturbance moves in. that will bring us more cloud cover and better chances for rain. rain chances up to 30% saturday. showers could start in the morning. we could see some thunderstorms in the afternoon. some breezes on saturday and an early-morning chance on sunday before we try things out and dry into next week. temperatures are getting warmer the next few days. we will talk about that in a few minutes. the speeds on the freeways are looking great. things are getting busier on i- 10 in the west valley.

before you even get on a 10 i want to give you a look at the desert drive time's. traveling southbound from grand avenue to i-10 that will take you about 10 minutes or so. some heads-up about some work on grand avenue happening tonight. the thunderbird road connection to grand avenue will shut down tonight at 11:00 and last until 5 am on tuesday. use primrose to get on grand avenue. you will also see restrictions along grand. at the east valley commute in a couple of minutes. the biggest mall in america making a huge decision before the holiday shopping season. how it is impacting thousands of employees and their families. shower -- sheriff joe calling it a war on cops we

we are following hurricane matthew very closely. >> wait until you see these images just coming out from the outer bands hitting florida. >> friends and family concerned about loved ones back east. let's talk about our beautiful weather. >> first we will have a check of the roads. how is the commute looking? >> we will have a look at i- 10. it is starting to slow down. the rest of the valley is all green. we are up to about an 18 minute desert drive time from the 101 to the 17. at 83rd avenue. this is probably the worst of it with that stopped traffic. around 67th it eases up a bit. we will have a closer look at us 60 next. no rain to worry about. we had some high clouds yesterday evening and overnight

the loop 101 and indian school road after a man was hit by semitruck there. he died at the hospital from injuries. i have not received an update as to why this man was walking on the road. we have calls into dps. when they are able to release details we will pass them on. phoenix police making their final arrest in a murder from more than a month ago. officers swarmed and thomas road. they took a man and woman into custody. we still don't know why she was cuffed but we are working to get more information. you might remember september 1 25-year-old mario cho lock was playing goldfish -- playing goldfish when suspects forced their way in with semi automatic guns. the man was shot while the suspects took guns and drugs. three other people were arrested and are in jail on a $1 million bond.

a report shows a crisis at the phoenix va is far from over. va officials say phoenix is understaffed and according to the new report wait times for appointments might have, once again, contributed to a phoenix veterans death. >> if i was her i would look at the number one issue that plagues the phoenix va, the wait time data and figure out the cause of that. if people are contributing to the problem or about how the process works they need to go. >> several years ago scheduling was tied to other deadly delays which sparked a national scandal. sheriff joe arpaio taking action on what he calls a war on cops. >> it is sad what is going on. something has to be done. i will mobilize my volunteer armed posse next week to support , protect my deputies and protect the 4 million people

volunteers will ride along with deputies in their patrol vehicles to give them an added layer of protection against attacks. for homeowners there's a mandatory fee that goes to pay for the fire department. this is the reaction we asked the man why that fee was going unpaid. the top three deadbeats have a pay their fees for more than three years. years. more than 100 homeowners are behind on their bill costs the town thousands of dollars. one of the people upset about that fact is behind himself. >> people can't afford it very well. >> that person plans to pay soon. the town can take property owners to court to try to get the bills paid. if you have plans to fly out of sky harbor you will need to add some extra travel time. one of the airports runways

airport. what is going on? >> reporter: this is because they are doing major renovations to terminal three. if you look at this, this is what it looks like right now. let me show you what it's supposed to look like by 2020. we're talking new shops, restaurants. to get to this point they do have to shut down a runway. they are going to run electrical lines from a substation to terminal three which has to cross the north runway. while they have the runway shut down they're going to put some new led lighting on the runway, new striping. here is what you need to know and how this could affect you if you plan to travel. you will need to tack on at least 30 minutes. some of the. travel times from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 and then 5:00 at night until about 8:00. sky harbor says once this is done it will be worth it.

if our temperatures keep going up we could be in for a mega- drought. researchers just releasing a study saying we can turn back time if we start reducing our carbon footprint. if we don't, they will say droughts as we know them will be far more severe. let's get more specific. what are the drought conditions right now? >> not doing too bad. 94% of the state is under a drought. here is the other news, nobody in our state is severe drought conditions. we have at least -- at at least nobody is seeing severe drought conditions. we had a very dry monsoon so that was not helpful. we are not seeing any extreme drought conditions and hopefully getting into the winter season the winter storms will add some more -- rather, will reduce our drought conditions. hopefully, all of that snow

night shift workers have enough problems. now, you can mark one issue off the list. a new study indicates women who worked the night shift were not more likely to get breast cancer. the study just coming out in the journal of the national cancer institute. previous research showed higher breast cancer in animals. it does not translate to humans. it is tough to when you have a teething baby. the fda is wanting now i guess using homeopathic teething tablets and gels their investigations are saying problems from these products can cause seizures, breathing problems and lethargic. no recall has been ordered. they are just asking people to stop giving infants homeopathic tablets and gels. and marine who lost all of his limbs fighting in afghanistan getting a second
