the local area. a conference is scheduled for later today and a lot of people say the timing of this is really interesting with sheriff arpaio. >> reporter: we just heard, early voting starts tomorrow. sheriff arpaio is up for reelection. right now they are waiting for word from the u.s. attorney's office on whether or not or pie o'will be criminally that would mean a huge fine and possibly time behind bars. this has to do with the racial profiling case where he deliberately disobeyed court orders. this judge says there's enough evidence to charge him, but then he handed the case off. will his tough stance help? the hearing is set for 10:00

what happens. today the first lady marks international day of the girl by skyping with girls all over the world about education changes in their lives. the girls participating in this event, they will be joining the first lady from washington, jordan, peru, tanzania, and the uk. back live, the storm may have passed but the water is not gone. look at images out of north carolina, where the fl just everywhere. the president now signed a disaster declaration for north carolina, meaning federal funding will be made available for those impacted by hurricane matthew. we pulled up this map to give you an idea of the problem. on the screen you can see all the triangles, those are all power outages and those represent hundreds.

sheriff paul babeu was headmaster at desisto school in massachusetts. a boarding school rife with abuse. a lot of things went down that probably shouldn't have. this isn't about abuse or neglect, because none of this was found. except these records show the state found it, students and parents testified about it, and a judge ordered it to stop. the cornering, the sheeting, i didn't know how to live and function as a normal human being.

she is changing the topic to climate change, a topic said to be important to younger voters. >> because florida was hit so hard by hurricane matthew, a federal judge extended the voter registration deadline to 5:00 p.m. on wednesday. this comes after the florida democratic party sued governor rick scott for not extending the deadline because of all evacuations. scott opposed the extension, saying people had enough time. happening today, australian lawmakers are expected to vote down a national referendum on same-sex marriage. right now there's not enough support to get the vote passed in the senate. the government wanted a public vote in february but it's looking to be too costly with a price tag of $120 million, so they said no. if it fails today, and if there is no vote in february, the prime minister says the issue

we have a lot more 60s in the valley, currently in the mid- 60s in mesa, chandler and gilbert. in the valley, you're down in the 60s too with 65 in surprise. a bit cooler as you step out. maybe you have plans for an early morning walk. sunrise comes up around 6:30, currently 73 degrees. by 7:00 a.m. we'll drop a i think phoenix ends up around 71 degrees for the low this morning. a lot of 60s across the valley. i don't think you'll need a sweater as you head out but you'll feel that cool air. by 8:00, starting to see the temperature climb again, up to 74. 80s move in after that and eventually we're back in the 90s by this afternoon. 73 in phoenix, but we're down in the 40s across northern arizona. 70s also across the western
