heartbreaking update. we learned she has passed away. we knew it didn't look good. we were on the scene as she was receiving cpr and pulled out of the apartment. we saw her on the ground getting cpr. crews did not waste a moment before the gave her the attention she needed. she was in full code which means her heart had stopped. they quickly got her to the hospital. we just learne away. neighbors telling me she is probably in her 50s. they didn't know her name or if she lived alone. one man told me she helped a lot of transient people in this particular area. the smoke started billowing out of the apartment around 2 am. most of those who lived nearby were woken up by the sound of breaking glass or sirens. >> they were banging on the roof, the doors, it was like a war zone out here.

this morning the death toll has now risen to 38 people. the latest deaths coming from north carolina where we learned one person around when they drove around a barricade and their car went into a washed out road. another person died when he was walking, couldn't see where he was walking, and fell into a hole created from an uprooted tree and could not get out. airlines are not taking any chances in case a passenger's phone catches fire. some airlines adding fire suppression bags and the plains. they're made of fire resistant material and with can touch and can withstand temperatures up to 32000f. the bags are already on the alaska and virgin planes. delta will add bags to the 900 planes in the coming weeks. this in response to what we have seen with samsung.

we begin with breaking news. a woman rushed to the hospital after her apartment catches fire. >> we know the fire started on the first floor. let's get out to megan thompson. to have any idea on her condition?>> reporter: unfortunately, we have a sad update. that woman has passed away. we just learned that in the last half-hour. she was a pulled the she was pulled from this apartment.

is in there right now. she was pulled from the flames, lying on the sidewalk is firefighters did not waste a moment to start cpr compressions because she was not breathing. fully coded when she was taken to the hospital in critical condition. that is where she passed away. this started around 2 am when the calls came out. a nearby never told us she was sound asleep when the commotion outside shocked them out of bed. >> i and i didn't see anything and then all of a sudden i heard like breaking glass in the back part and then i came outside and i saw all of the smoke.>> reporter: investigators don't think this fire is suspicious. early examination shows the woman most likely died from smoke inhalation. we know four apartments were affected. three people displaced.

this guys ex-girlfriend was driving when he was hit. no word on his current condition -- smoke filling the air near 29th st. and washington. this is a warehouse filled with fertilizer that caught fire. this was a smoky scene. it didn't take long for fire crews to get it under control to clear out the smoke. it sounds like some bags caught on fire. nobody was injured. terror charges coming out of florence. not typically a place you would associate with an attack. authorities are revealing everything behind their arrest of michelle bastian. court documents reveal she and her husband were plotting to set off bombs inside the vending machines in the lewis prison where he is currently serving a life sentence. the feds believe he converted
