after being pinned by another car. a tow truck is arriving here. we just found out to four girls were driving and ran out of gas. so two of them decided to get out and push, the gas station just a few hundred feet away. they were trying to make it to the gas station when another car rear-ended them, pinning those two girls and seriously injuring them. the two others inside the car had minor injuries. but the driver stayed on the scene and they are being detained now after being sent to the hospital themselves. they believe that male in his 30s may be impaired. they are investigating that right now. he is in stable condition. again, those four girls -- two girls, excuse me, in serious condition in surgery. two others slightly injured in this. the eastbound lanes of this area opened up about a half hour ago but the westbound

at where the lanes are closed. more on that coming up in a few minutes. now to a story that will make you sick. a disgusting case of child abuse involving a little girl. >> this morning a big admission from dcs, the department created to protect children. katie conner is live with more off 43rd avenue and thomas. >> reporter: turns out dcs had a long history with the parents who lived here at this apartment cole parents accused of abusing two of their four children. one was the 9-year-old daughter, taken away after birth and returned two years later. according to this report, she endured a life of abuse, hit in the back with a tree branch that was wrapped in duct tape, causing fractures. she was also forced to eat from the trash. back out here, this shows how many times dcs was contacted

smart route westbound is cactus road. a lot of 60s in the valley this morning, running a bit cooler than yesterday. phoenix is still in the low 70s but we'll drop to around 69 by 7:00 a.m. before we start to warm back up. 69 by 7:00 and back to 71 by 8:00. heading into the afternoon, it's all about the 90s as teer quicker today. by 10:00 we're up to 80, by lunchtime already at the 90- degree mark. topping out at 95 today under mostly sunny skies. today's temperature about 10 degrees above average for this time of year. not quite a record but we have record-tying temps in the seven- day forecast. also rain chances returning to parts of the state. i'll show you where in just a few minutes. a manhunt in oklahoma

today that's about 10 degrees above normal. temperatures across the valley in the low to mid-90s, and across the state it's getting warmer, even to our west an north. sedona up to 81 today, 95 in phoenix and tomorrow even warmer. we have temperatures potentially reaching record levels by tomorrow. today we should stay below the record by tomorrow we're going to potentially tie or top it, flirting with triple digits tomorrow. this comes as high pressure dominates the forecast for the next couple days. by the end of the week we'll bring in a storm system, a little more moisture and better rain chances but mainly for northern arizona. here in the valley, we'll notice an increase in cloud

minutes. two teenagers are in surgery right now. megan thompson has been on the scene off the i-17 and cactus. those teens were pinned between two cars. megan? >> reporter: this all happened because they were trying to make it to a gas station. they ran out of gas and two girls got out and physically pushed the car to the gas station. they were right here, just a few hundred feet away. the here a few moments ago. this was shut down since about 11:00 last night. this was a long investigation they were working on. these girls were pinned between the cars, very serious injuries. they are in surgery right now because they were pinned between the cars, trapped. police had to make that call to their parents around must have

driving the white car. those teens were in the red car. a man in his 30s is being investigated for possible impairment right now. he is also in the hospital himself, we are told. he is in stable condition, and again he's probably going to be facing charges himself when he recovers. the two other girls in the car have minor injuries. we are hoping to get an update on the girls in surgery right now, and that update soon. another big valley story we are following, a disturbing case of child abuse in phoenix. overnight we got new information about the couple that's now facing 17 counts. katie conner is live off 43rd avenue and thomas. this wasn't the first time dcs got involved. >> reporter: no, i highlighted all the times they had prior contact with the parents here. the last two happened over the

statement to us, in part saying abuse of any child is absolutely heartbreaking but a child nearly dying from chronic long-term abuse grieves the soul. we remember tragedies where lying abusers avoid detection. melissa and michael dugger are the parents and a few weeks ago someone called the hotline to report abuse. the children were found in deplorable conditions and one daughter said she was beaten with a tree stick duct tape, which caused fractures. all four children were removed from the home and both parents are behind bars facing 17 counts of child abuse. sheriff joe arpaio right now facing another term as sheriff but also facing a criminal contempt of court charge. his attorneys are preparing to ask for an extension in the

girls were in a car just behind me here when the car ran out of gas. two of the four girls inside said, the gas station is just a few hundred feet away. they were trying to make it there, so two of them got out to push the car. unfortunately that's when another driver came behind them and slammed into them, pinning the two girls between those cars. another and from what we understand, they were in the red car and the other driver was in the white car. those girls are in surgery right now, in serious condition. police said it was a very difficult scene and it was hard to see those girls. it was very serious and we don't know what kind of recovery they are facing. the other driver is being
