over, the suspect shot and killed by police. we are just pulling into town here in show low. this is video on the left-hand side of the screen, officer darren reed. yesterday police say officer reed was responding to a disturbance call when daniel eriksson, the man on the right- hand side of the screen, shot and killed him before leading police to a nearby cabin where he took a 15-year-old girl during six hours of negotiations, he shot at officers. that's when a dps tactical team was called in to help and eventually he was shot and killed. back live here, as for the 15- year-old hostage, we're told she was not hurt. she was taken to a nearby hospital out of precaution. we are just pulling into town. as soon as we have more, we'll

trump made his way to victory in the wee hours of the morning. across the street, a deflating night for clinton supporters at the democratic headquarters. we have yet to hear from the former secretary but she's expected to speak this morning, something we'll be watching closely for you. crowds formed outside the maricopa county sheriff's office, as sheriff joe arpaio is out. live in phoenix this morning, justin, this may not be th easiest of moves. >> reporter: it's yet to be seen how this will go. still two months until paul penzone takes sheriff here. but the big question this morning, how is the transition really going to go? penzone and his wife thanked supporters. they have no clue how smoothly the transition is going to go.

years. joe arpaio is not required to meet with penzone and not required to make the transition smooth if he doesn't want to. penzone's camp is going to reach out and try and medication it as smooth as possible, as well as other officials and the department of justice. the sheriff says he'll make the transition as smooth as possible, and penzone is going to be sworn into office in january. >> we spoke with penzone and he that all people are entitled to respect. >> i pursued this because i want to restore the respect, the transparency and confidence to the maricopa county sheriff's office because the men and women in uniform there deserve it and this community deserves it. >> this was his second time challenging the sheriff. overnight, joe arpaio said it's

scaffolding. power blinked on and off for a moment but fortunately we are told no serious injuries. we have an officer-involved shooting just south of show low. state road 260 is closed but sounds like it's mostly reopening. one lane is still closed off. sounds like you can now use north part of the valley. loop 101, looking a lot better now. this is loop 101 between 51st and 33rd avenue, debris on the roadway. traffic is just a little heavier in this area. >> let's talk about the most accurate forecast. temperatures are mild and it has a lot to do with the breezes that have been sticking around overnight. this morning breezes are elevated in the upper 60s to

chandler in the upper 60s, 74 in glendale. breezy to start and we are staying breezy through at least mid-afternoon before the winds lighten up. peak gusts come around midday, just like yesterday, with gusts peaking at times between 20 and 25 miles an hour. i think we'll drop a little bit in the upper 60s, at least a few hours before we start the warmup again. today won't be as warm as yesterday. we hit 90 yesterday and we're back in the 80s by lunchtime, but today's high only 85. temperatures will keep trending down. we have the seven-day forecast coming up in just a few minutes. we have to talk about this,

. >> reporter: this is where i voted and a lot of people voted here too. it's closed now but we did see really long lines for the general election. typically that's something you wouldn't see but then computers started acting up at sites, causing a lot of delays. this was one of the long lines near 51st and osborne, if we have the video there. the issue was there were two computers processing all the ballots. then one of them went down and

delaying people 10 to 15 minutes. you have thousands of people voting and only one computer, causing major delays. >> all i heard for five, six hours on the radio was that it's a two, three-hour wait in maricopa. then i heard two and a half, three hours. i said, that's not going to stop me whatsoever. >> reporter: and they got than half the calls for troubleshooting they had in the 2012 election, so this was somewhat of a success. allison rodriguez, abc 15. the long lines may not be a surprise for the secretary of state, announcing voters set several new records in our state with this election, including voter registration, early voting and possibly a record number of ballots cast.

the centers here in arizona were closed after questions arose about the reliability of the tests. let's get you out the door with the accurate forecast. it's a mild and breezy morning, temperatures down to 72 degrees 72 degrees, winds about 5 to 15 miles an hour on your way to work. we'll have more throughout the day today, into at afternoon. today won't be as warm. as you step outside, i mentioned the breezes. the camera here shaking just a little bit with the breezes about 5 to 15 miles an hour across the valley. we'll stay in the 70s through much of the morning but for the 80s by lunchtime, still breezy going into mid-afternoon. our highs are about 5 degrees lower than yesterday.

average but the temperatures are starting to trend down. wind gusts 20 to 25 miles an hour, and by around midday in the valley. down south, we'll have gusts up to 35 miles an hour again. so it's important if you're traveling, maybe down to tucson to watch for areas of blowing dust. that's a possibility. high of 85 today. for the next few days, temperatures trend down. low 80s into the weekend. more on the hour by hour breezes in . we have more details on this debris on the freeway on loop 101, this semi here near 35th avenue, they had to stop traffic the get that cleared. if you're seeing a little bit of congestion up there, that's the reason why: a look at the big picture, the only slow spot because of that here.

outside the valley. i-17 northbound, we have a roll overcrash at mcguireville. definitely some backup heading there because you can't get past that. you'll have to use side streets and ramps to get around that. u.s. 93, southbound direction is completely shut down right now because of a deadly crash north of state route 71. call friends and family headed in on 93 and try to change your plans if you can. we do not panic, folks. the sound of the sirens from the nuclear generating station have nothing to do with the presidential election. the plant is performing a federally required testing of 58 outdoor warning sirens. they will let drivers in fact west valley know about this, around noon, 12:30. they have two different tests and they will carry this out and it is only a test.

governor's mansion in indianapolis with the big changes. >> reporter: we are out here at 46th and meridian, where we can see the process beginning of secret service and other law enforcement agencies beefing up the security detail. no doubt this morning we are waking up to a different america. it seems indiana's governor mike pence will be our next vice president, a breath away from being the leader of the now more than ever, mike pence must be protected. specific security plans are classified but sources say serious discussions have already begun about closing down the streets around the mansion here. it's unclear if they would be permanently blocked off or just while pence is in town. the faa also restricted the air space around the mansion. airplanes, drones, all restricted from flying within a mile of the residence.

we'll get back to the election in just a moment. we have breaking news in show low this morning. a police officer is dead this morning after an overnight shooting and a massive manhunt to catch the killer near the lake wood resort. katie conner is live. >> reporter: behind me at the days inn said the suspect was staying at this hotel. employees yesterday called 911 about him. this is daniel eriksson. he is on the screen right now. he was at the arby's down the road when police showed up, and he shot and killed officer darren reed. he'd been with show low police since 2006 and police say after

door. the breezes are keeping temperatures a little elevated, in the 60s to 70s. clear skies on your drive into work and by the time you're heading home, we're staying sunny. it's another warm afternoon with breezes too. 72 now, and we'll cool little further before the temperature starts to climb back in the mid- 70s by mid-morning. today's high is 85, above the average 90 was the high yesterday. that temperature is trending down a bit. the breezes are coming especially around late morning into midday, when we'll feel the strongest breezes. winds about 5 to 15 miles an hour right now and they will stay about 10 to 20 through mid- morning with gusts at times up to 25 miles an hour. we'll talk about the lower temperatures for the weekend coming up in a few minutes. take a look at the roads on i-17. here in the valley, not bad.

outside the apartment complex. he has nonlife-threatening injuries and no arrests have been made. there's the update coming out of 51st avenue and thomas. thank you for that. back to the election coverage now, the results are in but that doesn't mean all the ballots are counted. >> last check, thousands haven't been looked at at all in maricopa county. allison, are they going to counting those today? >> reporter: essentially they need to still continue gathering and processing the mail-in ballots. it looks like people have gone home for the day and they are not going to start counting these ballots until tomorrow. as many as 200,000 early ballots were turned in on election day, on top of about 170,000 early ballots that are still being processed.

time. workers have to go through one by one and verify the signatures. we have not seen a lot of counting going on inside, and that has some people frustrated. still the county recorder helen purcell says this process is normal. >> it's not a process that takes a couple hours. this takes quite some time. we have had teams working around the clock. >> reporter: we started to see employees showing up here, not sure when counting the ballots. but the task today is separates and sorting these, and they hope to finish at least 50,000 of them today. allison rodriguez, abc 15. a very long road, including fighting more more education and funding, fighting for paternity leave, fair work schedules. there are a lot of things in the workplace we could work on.

of prop 206. starting the first of the year, the minimum wage in the state goes up to $10 an hour. the chairman of prop 206 there saying this just the beginning. more developments after donald trump wins. world leaders at this moment congratulating trump, well wishes coming in from the uk's prime minister, canada's prime minister, the german president offering ot and russia's president sent trump a telegram. as one person put it on the internet, he didn't want to send an e-mail, just in case.

the rest of the state, including the valley and high country, all dry. another storm system is moving across the state on sunday. we'll get a cool front in, a cold front moving across, but it's not going to bring any moisture. so a dry forecast even for the weekend and next week. today plan on sunny skies, and more breezes. this morning we're feeling them, temperatures around 72 degrees this morning, so a bit gusty winds continue through lunchtime, gusting up to 20, 25 miles an hour. as the temperatures climb to 85 this afternoon, not as warm as yesterday, not seeing those 90s. but we are still above average for this time of year. we have sunny skies in phoenix today, no 90s to the southwest either.
