there were groups from el hambra and central as well. they walked the streets of phoenix and protested against trump. also for the school district and for police and the union high school district. that's when police got involved after reports of rocks being thrown and light rail trains officials say this is the wrong way to get the message across. they're hoping that since school is off tomorrow tension will subside in the days to come. also today we sa students pro-- saw students protesting at the arizona school for the arts. seniors speaking their minds during their lunch break. inside schools teachers are sending a strong message to kids. you don't have to walk out of

free speech. how all of this is turning into a political lesson inside the classroom. >> teachers are saying don't use anger, use education. they want kids at all of the schools in arizona to know that they're here. they want to listen to you if you're concerned. the outpouring of emotion stems from the strong rhetoric throughout the campaign about rounding up immigrants and building walls. it's scared some of these kids. not on it but they're hearing their parents talking about it. strong words sometimes. teachers say this is a lesson for adoesn'ts. tone down the -- for adults. tone down the rhetoric. >> there's a government in place. there's checks and balances in place. we don't need to be divided. let's wait and see how we can get through this. and i promise it will be okay. >> coming up at 6:00 another

middle school students out here in tolleson. their viewpoints coming up at 6:00. we want to get to more news that's breaking. we're out with these protesters on the streets. >> yeah, i am following these kids all over downtown phoenix. they move pretty fast but they left the capitol. they came to asu to get more students. and you can see they're tr to gather a lot more people as they are walking. phoenix pd tweeting out and posting helpful tips for these students who are protesting so they can be safe and organized. because they are going to be our future after this. i spoke to the district who tells me that 400 out of the 7,000 students walked out of class today. and there's going to be consequences. every time they walk out of lass they're going to get --
