season. freeze warnings in effect for much of the higher terrain. they have not yet frozen this season. places like payson, prescott. no freeze warning in flagstaff. it has frozen several times already. down to 16 in flagstaff. prescott in the 20s in the overnight forecast and although we won't see any freezes here in the valley, it is still going to be the first taste of the 40s widespread across phoenix metro that we've seen so far this fall. so there's a look at the numbers. mid to upper 40s across most of the valley tonight. and coming up in just minutes, we're going to walk you through all the changes as we had head need weekend. breaking news update, smoke touring over the valley. this was the scene yesterday. if you poked your head outside at lunch, you may have seen all the smoke from the scrap metal fire. phoenix fire, we understand, had a near catastrophe out

jason valentine is live with what happened. jason. >> reporter: phoenix fire told me the crews hate these scrap metal fires because they're always chaotic. in this case, a fire truck ladder complieded with -- collided with a crane. this could have turned out badly. let me explain a little more in detail what happened here. sa recycling is the company, and they were helping firefighters. two of its cranes were pulling the scrap piles apart so firefighters could spray water down into the flames. now, at some point, one of the cranes swung around and smashed into the ladder extended about 70 or 85 feet with three firefighters in the bucket. >> that crew rocked back and forth. luckily for us, it was a near miss. i mean, that's a near miss for us where it could have been catastrophic. those crews declared a mayday, shut down the water stream. there's no injuries to report. >> reporter: the ladder was

it over to us telling us tonight officer bonar turned his camera off just before the officer says marissa morris kicked and kneed him. he's on administrative leave and under criminal investigation. this man's luck is running out after they pressed charge for armed robbery. they've already linked him to 6 cases each time wearing a mask articled with a gun -- armed with a gun. watched by undercover officers who arrested him. he just got out of prison. two guys strolling into wal- mart like nothing happened. only police say this duo robbed a couple at a red robin and still haven't paid for the crime. there's a $1,000 reward if you can help solve this case. it happened on october 5th. one of the suspects may have had a gun. so many questions tonight following a two-day saga at this mesa home.
