>> and only on abc15 with hundreds of open positions at phoenix p.d. the new chief is unveiling her plan to keep you safe. >> as we talk about your most accurate forecast temperatures have gotten even colder here at the top of the hour. look at those morning temperatures right now sitting at 46 in mesa and upper 40s also in glendale goodyear. phoenix sky harbor is expected to 51. grab a jacket as you head out the door. but then today we're in for a i'll break down your hour by hour planner next. and iris so far we've been pretty quiet as far as crashes or anything like that but it looks like we have a stalled seminear i-10 eastbound. it's right near 43rd and 45th avenue. definitely adding to some of those brake lights. on i-17 southbound it's right near the i-10 stack. don't have too many details.

anything. you are seeing delays up to camel back. >> live desk. let's get straight to that breaking news. a guy opens up the front door and gets shot a multiple number of times. justin pazera just spoke with detectives. let's get the latest. justin what do we know. >> reporter: good morning dan, yeah, they're trying to piece this all together because at this point they don't have any witnesses. you can see those detectives right back there the silhouette of those detectives that's where it happened on that lower level apartment. the police are telling us that the guy, the victim opened the door, that's when he was shot multiple times by that suspect. we don't even know at this point if that was a man or woman who fired off those shots. but phoenix police trying to figure that out this morning. we do know a female was inside the apartment. we don't know the relationship between the female and the victim at this point.

hospital with that victim where that victim did die. he is a guy in his 30s. we believe about 32 years old. but again phoenix police really trying to piece this all together and trying to figure out what's the relationship between that victim and the suspect. at this point it's really not clear. they don't even have surveillance cameras here so they're just having to do some good old-fashioned police work on this way. live in phoenix justin pazera abc15. only on abc15 the to look out for your safety as the phoenix police department looks to fill 400 jobs. chief jerry williams sent a letter to all officers telling them she's assembled a team. she wants to make sure they have enough officers out there responding to calls. for some time officers have been working overtime and specialty squads have helped when needed.

from jody arias' new attorney. we have more on this this morning. >> reporter: good morning. we know jady arias killed alexander travis in this neighbor. her attorney probably knows a lot more than what we've heard at trial and now he's disbarred for spilling those secrets. this is the latest twist in the relationship that's soured multiple times. said she was hard to work with even tried to get himself he originally agreed to a suspension after writing as tell-all book titled traffic. he's agreed to simply give up his legal career disbarred in arizona. ar ias has a new lawyer. they say his book is full of lies and she could sue. >> i can't speak to that but i can tell you that it really violates the fundamental notions of what a lawyer is to be able

book about your clients. >> so whether or not jody arias decides to sue depends on what is in the next two books. the first in a trilogy of tell-all series. guys back into you. well two people are away from their homes this morning because of a fast-moving fire. this is video from the scene. the general area there. you can see some smoke coming this is devastating folks. officials were able to keep the flames. >> this is certainly a tough situation. our hometown arizona d-backs are at odds over chase fields. abc15's nick ciletti he's at the ball park this morning.

definitely means more legal wrangling for the team. they are going to hold the d-backs to their lease which doesn't end until 2028. now here's what happened here. the real estate investment company that wanted to buy chase field has officially said no deal. they said the d-backs are refusing to meet with them and are demanding to see a number of financial documents before agreeing to meeting. they release aid statement that says in here, we are deeply offended that mr. greenburg would suggest that we have been uncooperative when we have merely asked for answers to the same questions that the buyer agreed to provide to the county. so they're saying well hey if the county gets this information why can't we? that's the d-back's position. coming up at 6:30 we're going to dive deeper into the controversy surrounding this and also more

happened here. >> the saga continues. meantime we've got an abc15 update on the sale of another valley location. 10 months after phoenix signed off an a $350 million deal there is no movement. we're told a potential buyer from florida is still interested but it likely depends on whether the city can finance a new arena for the phoenix suns. i've asked my transition team to executive actions we can take on day 1 to restore our laws and bring back our jobs. it's about time. >> for the first time as president elect donald trump is talking directly to the american people. he's laying out his plans for once he takes office. one of the key things he wants to do is withdraw from the planned partnership. cancel restrictions on the production of american energy. of course we're still waiting for the next announcement on who

but the president elect has already had a busy morning. just a short time ago he was on twitter once again blasting the new york times. trump was supposed to meet with top officials of the paper today but says he cancelled when the terms of that meeting were reportedly changed at the last minute. pharmaceutical company mylan refused to testify next week. over its life-sa mylan has agreed to pay more than $400 million to settle allegations. the company's officials say they won't attend because the settlement is still pending. we have some new clues into the shooting death of a local rapper. police have now named two suspects in the murder of 26-year-old dashawn mcdonald.

is on the right right now. a former maricopa county inmate. claims her rights were violated while she was pregnant. maryola claims she was shackled during and as she gave birth at a hospital back in 2009. that case is supposed to go to trial three weeks for now. keith racky heads to court for ano hearing. racky who resigned earlier this year accused of using money seized from criminals on things like artwork, planes and restaurants. >> 6:08 and back here at the abc15 live desk. see these ripples sending chills down the spine of everyone in the nation of japan bracing for the possibility of more quakes. you have to check out the new video of these tsunami waves. that's a sue namy right there

the 6.9 quake hit close to the nuclear plant. when another massive quake hit. we'll continue to follow the possibility of those aftershocks. let me show you this new video as parts of the northeast start to dig out from the season's first major snow storm. whiteout conditions up there up state new york receiving more than 17" of snow in a single day. hundreds of accidents reported on the roads. good morning america has a closer look at some of the damage starting at 7:00 here this morning today and that storm system slowly will be clearing out to the northeast finally giving folks in those areas a bit of a break from the snow. behind it though another storm system. i wanted to give you a heads up about our national weather in case you're getting ready to travel for the holiday. we've got some strong storms that will be hitting the midwest with the potential for severe weather in places like texas and

east we're going to start to see more snow issues across the upper midwest. spots like chicago, even michigan getting snow on wednesday and we know that could lead to some flight delays too. something to keep in mind. maybe pack your patience as you're getting ready to hit those airports. pacific northwest also getting more rain as we head into wednesday and even thursday morning. thanksgiving day. so worth watching the situation as far as our national weather goes we're active weather across the country. not the case back here at home though. we are seeing those clearing skies across the state behind yesterday's storm system. we'll enjoy sunny skies through today. tomorrow if you're traveling across the state nothing but sunshine and just a few passing clouds on thanksgiving day here in the valley. now this morning it's going to be colder when you step outside. we're talking 40s and 50s and it will be a cool but pleasant afternoon with a high of 70 degrees. i'll show you how much warmer it

i still think there's a slight clans of patchy fog. there is that potential there for it to develop as we head towards sunrise. by this afternoon as kids are getting out of school it will still be a cool day. we will warm up to near 70 degrees this afternoon. so as you look at that hour by hour break down. we're actually going to be in the 50s even through that 10:00 hour. 60s though as we head into lunchtime. a high today of 70 degrees which afternoon. dry weather on tap for today and really through the the end of the week. it won't be until late in the weekend and monday of next week that we start to bring back those rain chances. we will get another cool down. we'll talk about that thanksgiving forecast more in detail in just minutes and iris i want to head up to the north valley right now you're start to go see that slow

we are following a bizarre favorite. a 69-year-old is abducted and found dead on the highway. two days after police paid a $250,000 ransom. the woman was taken from her home friday. it's bleeed that two other men were also involved in this. neighbors say they're just shocked. >> i think this is a safe neighborhood and that's not i would expect. >> and in fact kidnaps for random social security a fairly rare occurrence investigators say this abduction was targeted and the cause of death is still under investigation. tucson police are getting some much needed nasal spray today.

right at 40th street even though it's off to the right-hand side you're slow back before u.s. 60. so give yourself plenty of extra time there and we'll give you a closer look at the northbound valley. breaking news from overnight. a woman shot in the leg during a drive by shooting. we're told a group was walking when someone drove by and opened fire. the suspect took off in a black or dark green four door sedan. we could be hours away an update on the murder mystery on the 51. danielle farmer was killed back on the highway in september. three men were in a white pickup. he was just opening the door to his own apartment and ended up getting shot and killed. phoenix police investigating this murder right now. the scene 12th street and indian school. justin pazera there as the first

get the very latest. >> police are still looking for this suspect we do know that dan. they just took down this crime scene tape. you can see the command van over there. that's where all the detectives are meeting but if we kind of just walk over just a little bit you can see the detectives concentrating on that lower level. kind of taking photos of the stairs. that's where this all happened. phoenix police telling me the guy living in this apartment just opened up the door that's when that suspect opened fire shooting that victim multiple times. we do know there was a female inside that apartment at the time of this shooting. not sure of the relationship right there. not even sure exactly what she saw. we do know that police are trying to figure out if any of these witnesses saw anything. we do know some of the witnesses heard gunshots they're the ones that called the phoenix police. find out the relationship between that victim and that suspect at this point. it's not clear.

pazera abc15. meantime jody arias is gone to jail for life but certainly not forgetting about her trial lawyer. kirk gnomy is now disbarred for writing a tell-all book with arias. jason arias was pushing for this. >> reporter: jody arias admitted killing alexander in this mesa neighborhood. that's kirk nermy and arias is fighting now to keep her out of a courtroom for good. the crowds cheered when arias was convicted. even tried to get removed from the case several times. he first agreed to be suspended for writing a tell-all book.

although arias' new lawyer says he could apply for a new license in 5 years. >> i'm sure she would be opposed to his reinstatement but i haven't discussed that with her. violating confidentality and also telling lies about the client and the case. >> now in theory arias sue. her new lawers wouldn't say if that's where it's started. right now cardinals bruce arians is resting at home after a pretty big scare. earlier this season he went to the hospital for stomach pains. we still don't know in arians will be on the sideline sunday when the team faces atlanta.

battle of chase field. a deal involving the county, the state, and the team has fallen apart. abc's nick ciletti live at the park right now. >> reporter: what we now know is the deal is off the table. the d-backs were hoping this would be a field of dreams of sorts it it turns out they are striking out with now the maricopa district announced. real estate partners two started this process all the way back in august. the crews refused to meet with them. they also demanded to see financial documents. they just want the same kind of information the county is going to get. selling chase field started off earlier this year.

idea. 6:36 now that school bus crash. we're still talking about it out of tennessee. the driver who was behind the wheel in chattanooga arrested charged with five counts of vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving. take a look the johnathy walker was speeding when he killed five children in that crash. we know there were 4th graders a kindergarten killed. walker's bond set at more than $100,000. those five kids died there. 23 taken to the hospital. just a tragic story this morning danielle. this morning we're getting a closer look at what president elect donald trump will do in his first 100 days in office. trump also announced a $1 trillion plan for

i'm justin pazera live in phoenix near 12th street and indian school where phoenix police are working a shooting. we do know that one man is from from several gunshot wounds. he was in this apartment back here when a suspect approached that door. the victim opened the door, that's when that suspect opened fire shooting that victim multiple times. he was rushed to the hospital where he died. at this point investigators are trying to pinpoint exactly how those two knew each other as soon as we get a description of that suspect of course we will pass that along. we're live in phoenix justin pazera abc15. 6 minutes to 7:00. this just in it looks like the
