today. >> busy travel day too, so let's get to the live desk with chris. we have six delays out of new york's laguardia. so heads up if you're hitting the skies, today is one of the busiest days for travelers. mother nature doesn't care at all. this is the misery map, winter weather advisories issued in wisconsin and minnesota. in the south, heavy rain storms are expected. we are watching minneapolis, chicago, detroit. delays could happen also there in houston. if that hits houston, there's going to be a ripple effect. >> and we have a team here in the valley at sky harbor. >> thousands expected to go through the airport today. that means long lines and big

>> reporter: be patient because 180,000 people are expected to come through sky harbor today. there was a long line here and they have since opened other lines, so things are running pretty smoothly right now. normally on a typical day here, expected to see about 50 to 60,000 more just today. dropping and picking folks up, you have to use the s station. that's being recommended at 44th street and washington. you need a parking spot? check online and you can even reserve one in advance. valley parking is also available at terminal 4. and sky harbor is sending us these tips. arrive at least two hours early, maybe even two and a half hours today, three hours for international flights. and security check point times, this is new this year.

skyharbor.com. double check the tsa allowed items for your luggage of course. again, 180,000 people expected here today. if you're coming back on sunday, expect the same thing, the same number of people coming back for the weekend. to the east valley, loop 101 and 60 looking great right now, different from what the scene was several hours ago, just after a down the freeway. dps said the driver that caused that crash crashed into six cars there, that driver is suspected of being impaired. one of those cars caught fire. that car was seen speeding past other cars. two people went to the hospital. >> when you hear that many

accidents and everything, and two days before thanksgiving. makes you think about what's going on in life lately. we are working to get updates on the conditions of those people, just a terrible situation there yesterday. in mesa deputies investigated a hit-and-run. we know it is dark, tough to see there. the driver ditched that vehicle is in serious condition. as soon as we get an update, we'll pass it along to you. we have a breaking news update on the deadly shooting you saw 24 hours ago on abc 15 this morning. officers have identified the man shot and killed at an apartment complex as 35-year- old roberto garcia. he heard a knock on his door and was gunned down near 12th street and indian school. there are no witnesses in the

from one shooting to another, and this has a big reward. state route 51, this shooting has a $20,000 reward. the only lead officers have is a possible white work truck. >> shock and sadness in tucson as a former fire captain could walk free. he is accused of three cold case killing, including that of his ex-wife. a jury unable to reach a verdict against david watson means he'll likely get out of jail. he's still in custody until a hearing december 2nd when we should learn more. new this morning, a city of phoenix worker twice arrested in a revenge porn case is still getting paid by your tax dollars. >> we are learning new details about his checkered employment with phoenix.

richard was arrested on some pretty wild charges. these records show his time on the taxpayer dime is filled with questions as well. let's take a look. abbott was hired in 2007. six months later records show he was caught fudging his time card for 29 hours he didn't work, ended up with a two-day suspension there. he still got a dollar raise that year and every year since until he hit peak pay in 2014. using a city ipad and shared icloud account to store naked pictures of a former girlfriend and fellow city employee. he was threatening to expose those, even printed and scattered those on her front lawn. he was arrested again later, threatening to get her fired. he's been on long-term

and what he's getting paid from the taxpayers, coming up. 5:07 now. don't fall for it. that's the warning for a chandler family kicked out of their home just hours after they moved in. the briscoe family had to move twice in 24 hours after the home they rented wasn't really for rent. they found the listing on craigslist but officers informed them 245 it was a scam and they could get arrested. >> could stay together, even if we were homeless, it would be fine. >> friends and family helped them and the chandler fire department took action after they heard what happened. the family is out $2,000. 4 million salaried workers are supposed to be eligible for overtime pay but a federal judge in texas put a stop to the changes, at least for now.

. temperatures are going to drop a little further this morning, down to 51 degrees by 7:00 a.m. today's warmup is a little faster than yesterday's, up to 61 by 10:00, 68 by lunchtime. then today's high is up to 75, 4 degrees warmer than yesterday's high. so today a little warmer, back above average, clear as we go into this evening. beautiful around the valley today and for the next few days if you're staying temperatures get warmer thursday into friday. we are talking highs in the upper 70s, well above the average. but check out the changes over the weekend. saturday is warm and we have a huge drop in temperatures by sunday, only in the 60s. we'll talk about rain chances this weekend coming up in a few minutes. let's head out to the east valley right now. no big issues including the

. breaking overnight, a k-9 officer killed in florida while tracking a suspect through a wooded area. this is the image. the k-9 was hit as deputies exchanged gunfire with the suspect. that suspect is still on the loose. this coming on the heels of another officer shot last night in michigan. more on that in a few moments. across the nation, a balloon release to remember the five children killed in chattanooga, tennessee, the community holding a prayer vigil there dealing with this horrific loss. the mother of one of the children who died says she knew

instantly got that feeling. then i seen my other two kids crying, mama, mama. >> the ntsb is taking over the investigation into that horrific crash. the mangled bus has been moved to a garage while crews look at the pieces. the driver has been arrested and is facing several charges. some are calling for safer buses, specificay seat belts. only six states require seat belts on buses and arizona is not one of them. last year the national highway traffic safety administration came out in favor of seat belts on buses. surprising decision out of kansas city, the tallest water slide will likely be torn down

slide at schlitterbahn. after the investigation is complete, they will take down the ride for good. . brothers born months apart with the same genetic disorder. >> they don't walk, they don't talk. so their communication is very, very limited. >> reporter: when they turn 18, she has to file for guardianship to continue making decisions for them. so when time came, she hired the same documents. >> i expected her to complete the documents and file them in a timely manner. >> reporter: but the owner did nothing for the $1,200 she was given, and stopped all communication. >> that was all the money we had. >> reporter: soon she connected with other families on facebook who had the same story. >> one of them has two daughters. >> reporter: sisters with special needs, adopted from turkey. their mom says she wired perez

contact her was in mid-may, and she hasn't heard anything. >> i kept seeing her on a beach somewhere using our money, you know. >> reporter: she couldn't let it go. the arizona supreme court certifies document preparers in arizona, and perez's license ran out in july 2015. we were able to contact presby e-mail. no word on where the money went but perez and says she can't make financial amends. >> these kids have been through a lot in their little lifetime. for somebody to be able to do that and just be okay with it. >> reporter: both families had to pay another business to complete the process, so protect yourself. before hiring, check reviews and social media were

supreme court. . 52 degrees in phoenix right now and you can see the time lapse from the arizona department of environmental quality, showing clear conditions we have had overnight. that makes for a chilly start. it will also make for a nice drive into work this morning. if you're leaving now, heading up to the high country, all clear across the state. we'll keep sunny skies statewide through today. in fact, around the region, we have a storm system to northwest bringing snow to parts of california. but other than that, we are looking at dry weather, at least around the area. if you're traveling, maybe going up the i-17, taking the 10 today, heading to california, we have nothing but sunshine on all our state highways. 70s out in california, 60s in san diego today and temperatures across the high country in the 40s and flagstaff, 50s in camp verde.

great start before we see the temperature warm. temperatures will be warming quicker today than yesterday so we'll be in the upper 60s by lunchtime. today's high 75 degrees with afternoon winds 5 to 10 miles tomorrow we have a few light breezes, up to 10 to 15 miles an hour. should be a pleasant thanksgiving, warmer with a high of 77 degrees. warmer here tomorrow, then by black friday a high of 79 degrees but the morning temperatures are still chilly, so keep that in mind if you're heading out early. then the changes come by the weekend. rain chances kick back into the forecast and temperatures drop back into the 60s. more on the rain and show

. nice and chilly outside across the valley, right at 52 degrees. despite the chilly start, today will be a warmer day. phoenix will get up to 75 this afternoon. and thanksgiving day, even warmer. how high the temperatures will go, next. the ro later this afternoon but this morning it's kind of the calm before the storm, not many problems out there. you're starting to see minor delays on the 10, 14 minutes drive time here but still not bad from the 101 to the 17. delays are closer to 75th avenue. by the time you hit 51st things are good as well. we'll look at loop 101 coming up in a few minutes.

shooting in guadeloupe. we know somebody died at a home there in the heart of guadeloupe, and it doesn't appear to have been foul play. that's what mcso detectives have told us. the public information officer just sent us an e-mail, saying they want to wait on the medical examiner before determining a cause of death. so i have no idea to be honest with you, if they are searching for anybody because mcso isn't telling us. that's the latest i have that breaking news. thank you. the roads and airports are expected to be packed today. >> this is the busiest travel day since 2007. at sky harbor, travelers are hoping to breeze right through. >> reporter: they are hoping to breeze right through. is that going to happen? right now maybe.

something new this year, you can see if you're going to be able to breeze through. this is brand new. you can come to the board and see how long it will take you to get through the security check point. that gives you a key of how the trip is actually going to start out. right now tsa is pretty wide open. probably won't be that way later today. they are telling folks to arrive two and a half hours early. we're talking about 180,000 people expected to today alone. that's about a 50% increase in the amount of people sky harbor normally sees on a typical day. besides more travelers, expect more volunteers, folks in purple jackets giving directions. the airport bumped up the support staff, their operations staff by about 50%. if you're coming back on sunday, expect the same thing. they are expecting about 180,000 people to come back

developing out of peek, the standoff is over but the suspect is nowhere to be found. we are told a man is wanted in an earlier home invasion. police assure us this guy is no longer a threat to that neighborhood, which is why the search was called off. sheriff joe arpaio will have a hearing today in his racial profiling case. his lawyers asked the judge to step aside, which would this case. any delay could work in arpaio's favor. the justice department may be kinder to the sheriff under the trump administration. another attack on our law enforcement, this time a detroit area officer shot in the head. his condition is grave, we have just learned. minutes ago we also learned that he was released from surgery and a person of interest has been taken into custody. that person had outstanding

found a weapon here. the officer's name is colin rose. he's with the wayne state university department in mid- down detroit, and he's engaged to be married. we are hoping for the best of course for our law enforcement community. our thoughts are with you as always. this is one of many shootings that have happened against police officers this week alone. in florida and officer was shot while conducting a stop. two shootings in missouri, st. louis and kansas city in ambush style shootings. unfortunately that shooting in san antonio left an officer dead, detective benjamin marconi, killed while outside the police headquarters. his death is the 60th deadly officer shooting this year, far more than the 41 last year. have you heard

to change its ways. some parents are demanding the app musical.ly to remove the child pornography. >> the application, this is not a place for pornography. there's a ton of kids on this app. >> reporter: the app allows you to lip sync to your favorite song but while searching for a song, you could stumble on porn, everyone with your privacy settings off. this is low. two women spotted across fit gyms across the valley using a baby as part of a distraction to rip people off. they were caught on camera at at least one of the gyms here. the stories are the same, a woman holding a baby comes in and steals out of people's bags. her accomplice is distracting the person in charge, asking questions about membership.

for 10 years despite disturbing accusations. six months after he started, records show he was caught clocking in for nearly a week of time he didn't actually work. he was suspended but still got his dollar merit raise thattier and every year he was eligible since. he was arrested last month for having naked pictures of an ex- girlfriend and fellow city employee on a city device. according to cops, he printed the pictures and tossed them all over he records show he's making almost $30 an hour and he's on long- term medical disability since january, which entitles him to 66% of his salary. the city didn't want to comment on this story and they say mr. abbott's employment status depends on the criminal investigation as well as an internal city of phoenix

cabinet. word has it south carolina's governor nikki haley has been tapped to be the u.s. ambassador to the united nations. she's expected to be officially announced any time this morning. she was an outspoken trump critic throughout much of the race and if this happens, she'll be the first woman selected for a top level administration post like this. . new video of a raging wildfire in about 700 acres, expected to top 1,000 by today. it started as two small fires by the road and quickly spread. 55 homes are threatened currently. beware of bad drivers this morning. we hate to say it but the states with the worst drivers, arizona made the top ten. it was a tie between louisiana and texas for number one.

obey signals are factors. we hope not too many bad ones out there this morning. hopefully that's a good remainder to take it easy on the roads. this morning not seeing many problems if you're heading to work. i-17 southbound, the desert drive time about 8 minutes from dunlap to mcdowell. later this afternoon, the 17 is going to really plug up as traffic is trying to head northbound, i-17 northbound to the high country. you should leave by 1:00 p.m. to avoid the heaviest delays. that's kind of a heads up there. sticking with the north valley, this is loop 101 at 35th avenue. eastbound is picking up as you're approaching i-17. in a few minutes, what time you should head out for holiday plans if you're taking i-10. let's talk about the forecast if you're heading out soon. maybe you're heading to work this morning, not leaving town just yet.

out, clear skies and light winds. we'll keep the clear skies in the forecast through today, and by the time you're getting off work this afternoon or this evening, sunny and dry weather with light winds and temperatures warmer this afternoon than yesterday. this morning temperatures are comparable to where we started out yesterday, mid- to upper 40s across the southeast valley. so a chilly start to the da and a quicker warmup today. we'll be back in the mid-50s by 9:00 a.m., then upper 60s by lunchtime. we'll spend more of the afternoon in the 70s with 72 by 2:00 and that high of 75 around 4:00. so a beautiful day but a little warmer. across the valley, you'll notice the highs make it into the low to mid-70s this afternoon with sunny skies in the forecast. all dry if you're heading out

quickly. here in the valley, teens and young adults have more options if they are in a crisis. safe places just extended the areas around town to 1,000. the mayor tweeted this out, saying safe places include all 35 light rail stations and more than 900 buses. the southbound 202 freeway project will go on as scheduled. the freeway construction will start next year and this is that east and west valley we have been talking about. it's scheduled to open in 2019. a strange situation in a gilbert canal as dozens of fish are dead near elliott and greenfield. about 80 fish were found and they are being tested.

next couple days as we get high pressure in control. we'll be tracking a disturbance to our north but it's going to keep the rain and snow to our north by tomorrow. that means thanksgiving day, a light breeze at times and otherwise looking at mostly clear skies and gorgeous conditions for thanksgiving. today all day in the valley, tomorrow all dry in the valley. we'll track rain chances returning by sunday into monday. but the bigger issue could be country, and that could impact you making your way back into town. so that's something we'll watch closely. and look at the temperature drop, from the mid-70s saturday to the mid-60s sunday, even cooler into next week. so changes are coming. more on the hourly forecast coming up in a few minutes. we have a new crash right now out in the east valley on loop 202. this is eastbound at higley road, and sounds like everything is off to the side.

this time of morning, so i don't believe it will slow you down too much. in the west valley, we have delays on the 10 right now. and later this afternoon, folks are maybe heading out to california or tucson, if you're taking the 10 or u.s. 93, 2:00 p.m. is the best time to start the trip. leave by 2:00 because it will pick up after that. a look at the current conditions on the 10 in the west valley at 51st avenue, some flashing lights here traveling eastbound. you can see the brake lights there. could be a new crash. i'll try and get more details there and let you know, but that's about a 20 minute drive in. coming up, expect traffic delays hitting the road today. but wait till you see the mess for drivers in l.a.
