the kitchen at the phoenix convention center is buzzing. >> we had a few cooks starting at midnight and then trickling in the rest of the day. >> reporter: it is to help feed thousand force the salvation army's thanksgiving feast. >> it is a lot of undertaking but it is a tradition for us now. >> reporter: in all 750 volunteer also lend a hand for -- volunteers will lend a hand for the big day. they're packing up 2,200 meals that will be delivered across the valley and theye expecting to feed about 1,500 who walk through the door. >> it is a good thing to do on this day. there are a lot of people who need help. >> reporter: 1,200 pounds of stuffing, 1,200 pounds of potatoes and 80 gallons of gravy. each plate will be made with tlc. >> the chef was telling us how it was supposed to be put into the tin. he said make it look nice. >> reporter: he says going the

rushed to the hospital after getting hit by the van. the deputy is in serious condition, his wife has life- threatening injuries. she had to be airlifted. we're told the driver did stay on the scene and impairment does not seem to be a factor. a video showing a scary scene. on the other side of the highway is a driver going the wrong way on the loop 303 right around northern. the driver nearly slamming right into a dps trooper. that trooper was able to pull the driver over without anyone getting hurt. and more danger on the roads as a motorcyclist is in serious condition after a crash near the loop 101 and northern. the crash happening a little after midnight. no word on what actually caused this two-vehicle crash. new this morning, we're getting our first look at the man who put a gilbert neighborhood on lockdown. we brought this as breaking news yesterday at 11:00. so this is the mug shot of tracy mccoy. here is video you'll see only on abc 15.

into custody. they believe he is a suspect in two armed robberies at two circle k stores tuesday night. a scary scene at a popular hiking trail a phoenix man falls to his death while climbing look-out mountain. this is in north phoenix. another hiker saw it all, called 911. the man who was in his 60s or 70s lived in the mountain in north phoenix. he hike there had before. a fellow hiker said the area where he fell is very steep. >> i hike the mountain probably four or five times a week, and it is real tough to see something like this. >> firefighters say holidays are very busy for mountain rescues, especially when the weather is nice out. thanksgiving is the file for family to come together, but for karen perry, she remembers the family she lost five years ago. her three children died after crashing into the superstition mountains. their father at the controls also killed. this week karen heading back to
