breaking news on "world news now." >> mandatory evacuations in tennessee, wildfires growing out of control, taking over one tennessee town near a popular resort. some are trapped in a hotel. we'll talk to them next. this is this morning, the search for answers after an ohio state student rammed fellow students with a attacking others with a knife. authorities trying to determine if terrorism was the motive. and tracking down the truth behind the lines, what's behind the fake news websites that critics say had a major impact on the presidential election. the unlikely breeding ground feeding the websites. it's tuesday, november 29th. from abc news, this is "world news now." good tuesday morning, everyone. so many breaking stories this morning.

that's where a quick moving wildfire has torched at least 30 buildings in the resort town, of gatlinburg. a 16-story hotel is also on fire. >> the wildfire started this afternoon and is currently on the edge of dolly parton's theme park, dollywood. evacuations are under way with cars packing the roads as people try to get out of the popular tourist area. >> and joining us on the phone right now is inside who is inside one of the gatlinburg, 15-year-old logan baker. we are concerned about you logan because we've been watching all the reports about the fire surrounding the hotel that you're in right now. what's the situation? >> caller: so right now, they actually let us go back, leave the lobby where they had had us this whole time, and they've had us come up to the rooms, but -- because we're on the first floor because they had to break the windows on the upper floors because we were suffocating from

we're going to continue to track this breaking news story. and if that wasn't enough, we have the aftermath of the attack at ohio state university. so many talking about this. the massive school in columbus, ohio, getting back to normal today, classes resuming this morning. >> but there are plenty of questions about the frightening attack there yesterday. investigators are looking into the life of the somalia-born student who went on the attack. kenneth moton has more. >> reporter: good morning. the crime scene takes us, but the active investigation continues at ohio state university. local and federal authorities believe the suspect acted alone, but they are working to figure out if his motive was terror related. confusion and chaos on the campus of ohio state university. >> fire department, this is osu. we have a vehicle that struck several pedestrians. >> reporter: investigators say monday morning, a driver jurchled a curb and plowed into

engineering building. he got out armed with a butcher knife and started slash iing. >> i called people. they were like, don't go to campus. there's an active shooter. >> a heroic campus cop, two years on the force, opened fire killing the suspect. >> the cop yelled, he charged the cop, and the cop was forced to shoot him. >> reporter: there was no active shooter and the terrifying theme sparked panic. many barricading themselves in classrooms, and the university tweeted, active shooter, run, hide, fight. >> i ran into a bathroom, luckily, there was just a single stall and i was able to lock myself in there. >> reporter: the attacker identified as 18-year-old student abdul aki razkan. the school newspaper said this is the photo of the somalia immigrant and he was upset about the treatment of muslims, and minutes before attack, posted, i can't take it anymore.

as a potential terrorist attack. >> reporter: they are searching the suspect's home for clues on his motive, but leaders in the muslim community here spoke out urging people not to jump to conclusions that falsely link this accident to the face of islam. >> thank you. he mentioned there the hero cop who shot and killed the attacker. a school official said 28-year-old ohio state officer allen karushko was at the right place at the right to end the threat quickly. he was in the area where the attack took place, and because of a gas leak, he saw the entire incident as it played out and shot the driver in less than a minute after the whole thing started. >> amazing. a recount of the general election could get underway in wisconsin as early as thursday. green party candidate jill stein has until this afternoon to pay $3.5 million to cover the cost. but get this, she's already raised more than $6 million. the recount effort that upset donald trump is targeting pennsylvania and michigan where

that's ahead in "the skinny" on this tuesday, november 29th. from abc news, this is "world news now." and we begin with breaking news from tennessee. the raging wildfire tearing through a popular resort town. >> it is a serious situation that is happening right now. dozens of buildings in downtown gatlinburg are on fire and there are mandatory evacuations there and in surrounding communities. and a chef inside the park vista hotel was live on facebook with this incredible video as flames surrounded the hotel. firefighters told op hotel that it was too dangerous to leave. >> yeah. they were just on the ground so they could inhale some fresh air. so much smoke. just a few miles in from there, the wildfire is on the edge of the dolly amusement park. guests there had have been evacuated. moments ago, we spoke with a park's spokesman, pete owens. pete, what can you tells about the conditions there? this is a big fire, right? >> well, it is a very large fire.

election commission now gearing up for a recount requested by green party candidate jill stein. stein is also challenging the vote in had pennsylvania and michigan, three battlegrounds hillary clinton lost by a combined 100,000 votes, deciding the election. >> this is an election in which there has been hacking and allegations of tampering all over the place. >> reporter: during the campaign, u.s. intelligence agencies concluded russia tried to undermine the election by hacking team clinton and the dnc. it's one of the reasons thousands of supporters urged the clinton campaign to join the recount effort. the clinton campaign says it's not uncovered any evidence of votes being tampered with and they don't expect the results to change. during the campaign, it was donald trump who often complained the fix was in. >> it's a rigged system. it's a rigged election. 1.8 million dead people are registered to vote. >> reporter: and he's still

the election but thinks there was massive voter fraud. david wright, abc news, madison. another developing story this morning. the investigation into monday's attack on the campus of ohio state university. students returned to class today. >> investigators are combing through the life of the suspect who attended the school along with those he attacked. abc's alex perez has details from ohio state's campus in columbus. >> reporter: a terrifying scene at ohio state university. the chaos starting as the campus is coming to life. it's just before 10:00 a.m. when authorities say a male suspect in a car deliberately jumps a curb and plows into pedestrians. >> we have a vehicle that struck several pedestrians. >> reporter: the driver exits the car carrying a butcher knife and starts slashing people near the engineering building watts hall. >> we've got a man with a knife running around cutting people. >> it looked like he was trying

>> reporter: a campus officer confronting him. >> and he was yelling and the guy didn't stop. he charged the cop and the cop was forced to shoot him. >> reporter: one minute after the attack begins, the cop fired the fatal shot that took down the suspect, seen here on the ground surrounded by officers. authorities identifying the suspect as a student at osu, abdomen duck azak ali razakn. the school newspaper said this is his photo. >> everybody was running in any direction they possibly could, and i ran into a bathroom. luckily, it was just a single stall and was able to lock myself in there. >> reporter: campus now on edge as authorities start hunting for a possible second suspect. the university tweeting, run, hide, fight. watts hall. sending text alerts to the community. >> you know we're starting to get a text that there was a shooter on campus. so they locked the building down, had us all go up to the third floor. >> reporter: some students

against doors as ambulances and fire trucks race in to treat the wounded. >> i need a medic as soon as possible. severe bleeding out of some of them. >> reporter: 11 patients rushed to the hospital with injuries of stab wounds and from being hit with the car. one in critical condition. >> police cars, the most seen in my entire life. >> reporter: fbi agents arrive with tactical units as well as s.w.a.t. team and a bomb squad. .this terrifying warning, law not call students who may be on campus because their loved ones could be in hiding. a ringing phone could give them away. then in late morning, the all-clear. >> try to keep everybody calm, they did a good job. i love my students. >> reporter: as authorities continue to investigate the crime scene, they now believe the sole perpetrator at the scene was artan, the student behind the wheel of this car and are praising that campus officer, now identified as
