>> reporter: yeah. both were wearing bulletproof vests and they found a bullet in the center of the vest, over the officer's chest. he is still in the icu tonight because he took a bullet to the arm that went through his chest. he has been with the department for four years. his partner a 7 year veteran. he is recovering at home tonight after being shot in the leg. both are with the specialunet that goes after the worse the worse. this morning they went to arrest a 27-year-old after tracking him down at an apartment complex. he was wanted for aggravated assault and police say he opened fire. the officers shot back, he was killed. back up ran to start first aid till medics got there. this is the second time a suspect has opened fire on officers in tucson in the last two months. the chief of police saying
