♪ san jose police have arrested two teegers in the arson fire at trace elementary school this summer that cost $10 million damage. abc 7's theresaarcia is live at the san jose fire deparent where a news conference just wrapped up. theresa. >> yes, good morning. afte that july fire, the investigators determined fairly quickly that it was the work of arson but it took three months to determine exactly who was responsible for at $10 million worth of damage. now they have their answers. the san jose fire department called a news announcement of the arrest of two bo that

started afire and gutted throu the school. 150 firefighters foug that fire. it destroyed a 25,000 squar foot building that housed 16 classrooms, the libry and several offices. police arrested the teen suspects tuesday night and wednesday morning. both are being held in juvene hall. what connected them to the two san jose teen residents is a combinion of tips in the community. >> the reward helped i believe motivate community to call in and bring fth any, any minute thoughts they may have ce up with that could have led to this event taking place. >> you're confident that due process wille served and hopeful that thes juveniles will receive the needed counseling and guided direction to become well adjusted members of the society in the future.

>> as for the trace students, they were still ableo begin classes because many tempary portables were set up during the rebuilding process. the school receiv an outpouring of support from individus and bay area businesses who donated supplies and learni materials to the teacs as well as the deductib. investigators are not saying whether these two teen suspec are students in the san jose unified school district. before any information is revealed about them, the santa clara district attorney's office is finishing building its case and deciding how to charge them in this case of arson. theresa garcia, abc 7 news. >> theresa garcia, thank you >> caltran is working feverishly to finh emergency repairs on the san mateo brid before the evening commute. one westbound lane remains closed after the discovery of a crack in a still girder. terry mcsweeney is live with the latest. this morning wt smoother than

expected. >> yeah. hard to say. maybe people went earlier took the dumbarton or the bridge but it was bett than expected and crews are trying to make sure there's not even a question how this evening's commute goes. they're working on the crack right down there not far from where i am trying to work on that steel beam. it's just before the rise. i am told if all goes well -- and these a big if -- the repairs could b done before this evening's commute. thousands were slowed by the problem, a problem you can't see from up the here. the problem is a 10-inch crack in a 30 foot long wishbone-shaped steel beam which is attached to the concrete girders supporting t bridge deck. the beam was installed in 2001 as part of a seismic retrofit system. >> allows the bring to move 3 feet either way so it will roll with the punch during a

earthquake. >> caltran says there was never ever any imminent danger but definitely something th needed immediatattention. $800,000 has been budgeted for the emergency repairs. he feels it will probably cost far, far less than that and feels there is a silver lining to this problem. >> we do these inspections looking for probms. that's the whole point of 'em. we're very pleased that if there is one thing to be pleased about is the inspection did work. >> again, they hope to have the repairs done by 3:00 or 4:00 this afternoon in time for this evening's commute. i asked him is there a warranty on a steel beam. he said he didn't know but he was going to find out. terry mcsweeney, abc 7 news. >> another step today towards figuring out the cause of the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion and fire. the state public utilities commission will announce the

names of the five people who will sit on the special panel that will investigate the explosion. they will examine a report issued by federal regulators. pg&e took more than a half hour to send out a crew and it was another hour after that before main line valves were shut off. the blast kill eight people and dells troyed more than 30 homes. san pablo police are looking for people that stole an atm from a medical center. it shows them entering with a dolly through an unlocked door early wednesday morning. they left with the atm sometime between 12:30 and 1 a.m.. police want to know if anyone has seen the machine or the suspects. a judge denied a request from a group of independent gas station owners to block the state fire marshal from requiring them to move nozzles by tomoow. they would remove a clip that allows you to pump gas without

having to hold the nozzle. the resources board ordered stations to install those very same low emotion nozzl made by vapor system technologies. turns out a defect in the clip has resulted in 13 customers getting prayed with gasoline. that prompted the order whi the judge says wl remain in effect. to chile. some of th miracle mirs may get o of the hospital today. doctors say they're all in pretty good physical health bu may have psychological and emotional ars. (chanting) >> had the 33rd and final miner to be pulled out la night to the surface was a foreman. the rescue operation took a little less than 24 hours. today chile's president met with the miners in the hospital. he promised never again will chile allow people to work in such inhumane conditions as the collapsed mine. abc has exclusive interview with
