governor. democrat jerry brown cast his vote at an oakland fire station this morning. this is his campaiing earlier this year. he will remain there tonight. no word if she' be making any public appearances today. she's spent more of her own money than any other candidate in california history. governor schwarzenegger gave a very diplomatic answer who he voted for. >> i will let you know. i don't want that the to be the news. the key thing is people go out and the vote. >> the governor went on to say that he believes voters are fatigued athe end of any election noting the high number of ads, fights and debates they see during the campai. but also predicted that

california would be unique and indendent in how it votes when compared to the rest of the nation. and in the race for california lieutenant governor, democratic san francisco gavin newsom and they brought their baby. >> elections workers are billsy fixing a snafu on mail-in ballots that came in and are still coming in. livet the register's office t show us how they' trying to erase the problem. theresa. >> kristen, literally erase the problem. we saw them in the back office. they are using erasers with smudge marks that are throwing off the machines that scan those ballots. meanwhile you have gotome voters here that continue to drive by that box to drop off their vote by mail ballots each of what will be inspected. >> went thrgh a box of erasers

and a box of ballots. what they have in common on election day. in santa clara county, they are using these chunks of rubber to scrub clean these barely noticeable printer toner smudges. little marks causing big proble. >> last week we realized the machine that counts the ballots was setting aside a larger number than usual ballots that had exaneous marks than a write-in balt. >> the registrar voter's office said the optical scanners were rejecting the mail being processed. workers discovered the machines were getting thrown off by toner smuds. most were the vote by mail ones on the creases where they're folded t fit in the envelope. >> it's unusual situation but the important thing is we're taking every step possible to make sure every vote gets counted. >> the solution? physically inspec every ballot.

another attack this morning on a site tied to the u.s. military in the washington d.c. police say in northern virgin one fire was shot at a coast guard recruiting station. there's minor damage and the shooting seems similar to recent shootings. in the past months shots have been fired at a marine corps museum, the pentagon and recruiting stations.

surf has started and it's going to increase at least through tomorrow afternoon. cooler afterons are coming in friday, saturday, sunda and monday and along with them a chance of rain but the best chance in the north bay and it's mainly friday and saturday. let's take a look at the highs. compared to average, 7 degrees warmer in concord, 8 san francisco, san jose 9 and oakland 11 degrees warmer than average. a look at the high surf advisory. all our beaches just about now until 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. large breaking whites 15 to 20 feet. around 13 to 60. could get up to 25, lone wave and that's going to create strong rip curren, also. from watsonville to santa cruz, those southwes beaches not under it but dangerous in and around that area. looking at several storms. look at them in this trough of low pressure. very stormy system to our west. but that's going do have to hold off until the weekend and break
