hundreds of students and workers are protesting outside the reges meeting now in san francisco. >> the board is considering raising student fees and changing retirement benefits. there's been pushing and shoving and some arrests. terry mcsweeney is there. we have reports people were pepper sprayed. >> a number of people were pepper sprayed out here as the day went on. abc 7 with a ringside seat for all of that as you're about to see as police and protestors collided. the trouble began when

protestors started surging towards e u.c. police line. a few protestors grabbed the barricade and took off wh them. police pushed back, used it on people not moving fast enough and broke out the pepper spray to disperse the crowd. a sort time later a second surge of protestors and more pepper spray. in the front of the first confrontation with u.c. berkeley graduate. you can see him being hit by a officer using her baton. moments late he was sprayedt close range. >> i told them i was a non-violent activist. the officer started hitting me more and an officer came over and took a pepper spray canister and just sprayed us all. >> i understand there's real passionate emotion. all we can hope for is everybody behaves and contain themselv. >> police thought the protestors did not contain themselves and several were rested.

closed-door conference is just wrapping up and this is an attet to settle a claim for unpaid wages by meg whitman's former houkeeper and certainly this issue surfaced and rocked whitmas campaign during the race for governor right before the november election. all came out before those few months. it is an issue that is far from settled. nikki diaz arrived at the san jose division of employment office this morning with her los angeles attorney gloria allred. representatives including her husband were there as well to respond to the labor issue. the scheded conference was to discuss a september 29th claim alleng that meg whitman failed to pay her former housekeep nine years to all the hours she worked. when nikki was hired, whitman agreed to pay $23 an hour for 15 hours a week but when she worked more hours whitman refused to pay any extra. she's asking for a total payment

announced $430,000 grant at oakland's allen temple baptist church this morning. the money will be used to prevent the kind of violence that happen right outside the church yesterday. a 46-year-old man was shot and killed after leaving a class for people on probation or parole to get their high school equivalency diploma. >> we know it's not always an easy or pretty pictur but we hold out hope. and this tragedy has only inspired us to work harder. >> police are still looking for the shooter who they say just in a white chrysler 300 driven by a woman. >> newark police released video they hope wi help somedy identify the three suspects that robbed a chuck e. cheese restaurant overs the weekend. one robber pointing a gun over the head of a young employee. the robbers rounded up sever
