♪ the mystery continues ov the cause of a health scare at a san francisco hotel. >> carbon moxide fumes sickened four flight attendants at the marriott sending them to the hospital. terry mcsweeney joins us now. >> earlr this morning the san francisco fire department said that the carbon moxide was getting into the hotel through the heating system. then they backed off that idea. now they're saying it appears it may have gotten in through car exhaust through the ventilation system. they don know. but here's what they do know. they've been out here three times this week for the exact

same problem in the exact same rooms. four people took sick at the marriott just before 11:00 last night all with dizziness and nausea. it showe carbon monoxide poisoning but firefighters believe they know. >> the thinking now is it came in through -- >> through the air intake system and just basically sucks the outside air in and goes through their ventilation system. >> it's the thi time this week fire crews have been outside for carbon monoxide problems. >> january 4 we responded to two similar calls at two separate times to those two same rooms. >> the affected rooms are right above stevenson street where trucks and cars park sometimes leaving their engines running. it's possible the exhaust is what got into the four rooms. but no other rooms are affected, not last time, not this time. it's still a mystery and

disturbing one to some hotel guests. >> i'm nervous but i talked to the guy at t desk and said they're getting calls and checking the whole hotel. he tried to reassure me but i'm going to ask again when i come back. >> they said it was contained to the fourth floor, all contained for now. >> you're pretty good witit? >> i'm fine >> the response from the marriott hotel is this: the situation continues to be under investigation and we are waiting further information regarding the source of the carbon monoxide exposure. meanwhile the four guest rooms will remain out of inventory until the situation has been resolved. as for the fr flight attendan attendants who were sickened, two treated at the hospital, two on the scene, all expected to be okay. there are no carbomonoxide detectors in the hotel and no law saying they should be. they do say the san francisco fire department new construction is going to require carbon monoxide detectors.

mindy tells me if you're going to a hotel that doesn't have one, bring one with you. live in san francisco, terry mcsweeney, abc 7 news. >> all righ terry, thanks very much authorities in alameda county arrest a domestic violence suspect afte he jumped out of a third story windown hayward. it all began shortly after midnight. sheriffs deputies answered a call and confrted the man inside his aptment unit on maddox road near foothill boulevar that's when the suspect pulled out a gun. >> the deputies ted to get in the apartment, the suspect spun around with a gun according to the deputy and the deputy fired at the suspect. the suspect then fled the apartment by jumping out of a third story building. >> the man hid in bushes a block away. authorities sealed off the area for two hours, called in a s.w.a.t. team and a helicopr before the man surrenred. officials say the man is being checked out but does not appear to be seriously injured. >> a new beginng today for an

army veteran found no guilty by reason of insanity in connecti with an armedcase. today a judge declar sergeant mcgregor binkly legally sane for one count of assault with a gun in san mateo county. a jury found him not guil by reason of insanity in 2009 based on mental conditions that stem from his experience in the army. he underwent treatment at a state hospital and had most recently been living at home under hous arrest. >> a power outage in alameda early this morning that affected 6800 customers began when a power line fell on the street and started a fire. power has since been restored. power officials say the affected customers from the ameda town center to the open estuary. the cause of that fire is still under investigation. the government released a very disappointing jobs report today showing employers only added 103,000 jobs in december.

the slightly encouraging news is that the unemployment rate fell a little from 9.8% to 9.4% but the federal reserve chairma says it could take five years for unemploynt to recover. jenelle wang is here with details. >> chairman ben bernke said 40% of those unemployed now have been out of a job at least six months. we're going to take a look ho wall street is reacting to the jobs report. the dow down over 51 points. actually been down all day. bernanke says the country still has a long road ahead of them. >> this rate of improvement it could take four to five more years for the job market to normlize fully. >> it wasn't all doom and gloom as ben bernanke spoke before congress over two hours this morning. he said consumers are continuing to spell money. as for the housing market? >> the housing market remains depressed as the overhang of basi houses weighs heavilily

against construction and non-residential construction is also quite weak. >> the president gave a more optimistic forecast in maryland even thoh he admits the country is recoring from a brutal recession. 8 million jobs lost in 2008 and 2009. last year the u.s. gained just over a millio back. >> we know these numbers can bounce around from month to month. but the trend is clear we saw 12 straight months of prive sector job growth. that's the first time that's been true since 2006. >> this morning the president also named washington veteran gene sperling from the clinton era to head his national economic council. he says sperling halls a record of turning budget deficits into surpluses. >> a moody's report says the tech industry in calirnia is seeing stronger performances but is being overshowed by the slow revery of construction, financial services and the real

estate indusy. kristen? >> jenelle, thank you. the republican push to repeal the healthcare reform law has keyed a key procedural hurdle in the house. 236 to 281 to begin moving toward on up or down vote next week the vote is seen largely as symbolic since republicans don't have thvotes in the senate to overturn it or override a presidential veto. republicans have promised to repeal the law if necessary. it gives health insurance coverage to 30 million uninsured americans. the gop wants to start over and create a more reform bill or i should say just create a reform bill that's smaller. >> governor jerry brown appears ready to keep his promise to cut the size of the executive branch. he plans to eliminate the secretary of education post. analysts says that post is unnecessary since there's a state board superintendent.

governor schwarzenegger's educatio secretary had a budget of nearly $2 million and a staff of more than a dozen. >> this afternoon san francisco's board of supervisors will try aga to pick an intem mayor to replace lieutenant governo elect gan newsom. previously ed lee was considered the leading candidate but today the san francisco chronicle reports city public utilities commission chief ed harrington has apparentlil been adde to the list of possibly candidas along with san francisco chef michael hennessey. however, any vote the supervisors take today may not matter at all. tomoow mayor newsom will swear in a new board and they will make t final decision. if lee is approved, he will be the city's first asian american mayor. >> the denver broncos are no longer aggressively pursuing stanford coachjim harbow. he says he believes harbow wants to stay at stanfor he is going to retn for

we've got a northerly westerly wind developing and notice how it's pushing the fog to the south through the santa clara valley. that will eventually take ay all the fog as we head into the weekend. let's take a look at those visilities. you can see all of us above a mile, santa rosa at a mile but well below the unlimited which would be a ten in this respect. you can see fog just about everywhere except oakland. there's a little pocket p developing along the east bay shore. oakland warmer at 46. mainly low 40s the bay shore to upper 40s along the coast. you can see inland upp 30s to low 40s where the fog is most stubborn. near 50 degree temperatures into salinas. gilroy coer at 41. we'll have foggy and chilly valleys. i think we'll have a briger warmer bay and coast during the afternoon hours. less fotonight and through the weekend. won't be quite as cold as it has been so we don't have to worry about freezg, fog or any kinds
