♪ san francisco police now believe a business dispute triggered a double shooting at fisherman's wharf. >> the man accused of killing two employees at a shop is a local merchant. amy? >> cheryl, police say shootings at fisherman's wharf are rare. even they were surprised and they say the last thing the city wants is for tourists to feel afraid. police were quick to reassure the public that the shooting was an isolated event. >> don't know exactly what was dispute was about but it was between merchants. >> it was right next to joe's

crab that can at 8:20 at night when the wharf was full of tourists. >> we had almost gone in the store but grabbed something to eat first. >> the police say they feel confident the person arrested acted alone and that tourists can feel safe. by the looks of things tourists appeared ready to move on. >> i love the area. i'm from detroit. we have this quite often here with murders and stuff so i feel pretty safe. >> it's the merchants feeling a bit uneasy today. despite reassurances from police. >> fisherman's wharf doesn't seem to be safe already. i'm happy to hear it wasn't a robbery but it's still scary. >> workers say the competition for the tourist's dollars are intense. >> you notice a pattern. whether the camera store,

luggage store. there is competition because they try to keep it separated but -- >> i'm shocked because i have a new daughter. for me it's not safe to work here. >> the woman who was killed was very friendly and careful. >> she was six years working here and i see her every day. suddenly something happen -- you just talked to her less than 24 hours, the feeling is creepy. >> and the store here on san francisco street is still closed this morning. police aren't sure where the suspect worked. he may have been selling items on the sidewalk. police havaven't released his name. we know the names of the victims and they are 30-year-old chung hung chew and sang ping yo. they believe he's the killer and he acted alone. >> aim mill, thank you.

egypt is bracing itself for political tension to come to a head tomorrow with opposition groups calling for one million people to hit the streets of cairo to demand the ouster of egyptian president hosni mubarak. cairo's international airport was packed this morning. the u.s. government is sending planes to evacuate 2400 americans. abc has the latest from cairo. >> for the tens of thousands of protestors of that taken to the streets, the message remains clear. >> change, change, change! >> today in cairo demonstrators still ignored the 3 p.m. curfew even though police are back on control and in liberation square more tanks and columns of foot soldiers. the government is finding ways to crack down. six reporters from al-jazeera were arrested then later released. in al-jazeera, searing images that helped galvanize this

movement. >> egyptian president hosni mubarak swore in a new cabinet but many of his new officials are old stalwarts of his regimen and protestors says they won't have them. they want a fresh start with fresh faces. many are uniting around muhammad abbarad. he recognized there'd call for change in an interview. >> first step he has to go, then prepare for an election and then move on toward a democracy. >> and days of rallying has had its fallout impacting not only the country's economy but its cherished antiquities. police attempted 50 men accused of breaking into the egyptian music. snipers and troops control the grounds of the tomb of king tut's tom and other treasuries. its future hangs in the balance. it sets up a showdown between

the people and their president that could tip the balance which one takes the day. abc news, cairo. >> iran has summoned u.c. sarah shourd to return to the country and stand trial on february 6th. charges along with her fiancé and a friend still in custody. shored was released on bail and returned to the united states. she organized an auction over the weekend to raise money. the three were arrested in july 2009. shored says they were on a hike when they accidentally crossed the iraq/iran border. >> several puppies are dead after a fast-moving fire at a fremont pet store. terry mcsweeney is live at puppy paws with the story. terry? >> yeah, fremont fire investigators are still on the scene out here and as they're looking at this puppy paws shop, looking in the corner there as a possible, probable place where this fire started, the person who owns this shop not interested in that right now. he is too distraught.

he lost three french bulldog puppies, can't even talk to us on camera. take a look what was left after the fire. fremont fire department battalion chief jim martin tells me the fire came in shortly before 6 a.m. and it was knocked down shortly after 6 a.m.. it was not a huge fire but the fire started right in an area where puppies were and three died. three french bulldog puppies were on sale for $1100 each. firefighters say seven puppies were rescued. a man who lives above the dog store ran into the store to help save the puppies. >> one of them, a piece of plastic fell on her fur but it didn't burn her skin so we were able -- it was a pretty large piece of plastic and we were able to cut it off her fur and she has no skin damage. just very scared. but there was the six puppies that we pulled out just happy to see us and they weren't injured at all. >> mr. callen thanked six firefighters saying regardless

of that they were taken to a veterinarian hospital and that's where the owner of puppy paws is with the puppies seeing if they are okay and we are told that they are okay. mr. callen who you saw in the interview there lives right above the pet shop, and this fire had it gone on a little longer it could have gone up -- you think of the scenarios here and they're all for worse but still and again this is little consolation to the owner of puppy paws here in fremont. terry mcsweeney, abc 7 news. >> terry, thanks very much. the search for four-year-old giuliani and his suspected kidnapper has moved knead a different stage. divers officially ended the search of the canal on saturday. last friday they pulled out the car that belonged to the suspect rodriguez but the vehicle was empty. officials are relying on a plane and sheriffs patrol along the canal bank to look for bodies in the water. they're asking the public to report any information that could help with the investigation. rodriguez grabbed giuliani from

his mother's arms january 18th. the boy's mother still believes her son is alive. tonight the family of a dublin girl who disappeared 22 years ago will hold a candle vigil. eileen was 13 when she vanished january 30th 1989 when walking from school to ice skating lessons. her family and other supporters will walk along the route eileen was taking when she was last seen. she was walking to wells middle school in dublin. >> counselors will be available at a san rafael high school after the body of a popular teacher was discovered this past weekend. 53-year-old deborah was found in a creek bed in ross. the initial autopsy showed no foul play. she was last seen january 19th. her keys and i.d. were left behind along with a message on her classroom block board that red "thank you, everyone."

. new york city michael bloomberg is taking aim today at arizona's gun laws. he sent undercover investigators in the days following the two son tragedy showing people buying semiautomatic pistols similar to the one used in tucson. >> the undercover investigator would approach one of the so-called private sellers, discuss the kind of gun he was looking for, and then ask if there was a background check. when the private seller would inform him that none was required, the undercover guy would say, good, because i probably couldn't pass one. that statement should

immediately stop the sale. >> tucson, the suspect jared loughner passed a background check bv being allowed to purchase his gun. bloomberg made gun laws a hallmark of his tenure and it's a dangerous gap in federal gun laws. >> a job creation initiative is being backed by president obama. hewlett-packard, ibm and intel plan to contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to the startup american partnership. the president highlighted the program in last week's state of the union which helps entrepreneurs start businesses and helps them grow. mr. obama and supporters believe the effort will help stimulate the economy. one of the partners intel says it found a design flaw in a recently released computer chip and the recall is expected to cost $700 million. it stopped shipment of the chip code named cougar point and has developed a fix. intel says the problem will

central valley. let's check out those temperatures where the fog was thickest. napa, san rafael, 40s. low to mid-50s just about everywhere else. monterey bay we have more sunshine and mid to upper 50s. inland to salinas and about 49 degrees in gilroy. partly cloudy and seasonal today. for tonight clearing and the fog will develop in our inland valleys once again for tomorrow's morning commute. extended period with 15 days of dry weather in january. get off about 8 to 10-day dry period starting tomorrow. oakland 59, san francisco, santa rosa, concord and fremont about 1 to 4 degrees warmer on this day where we see an extra minute 55 seconds before sun sets at 5:52. same type of temperatures on the peninsula today. notice the clouds keeping the coast in the mid-50s. downtown south san francisco mid to upper 50s. same type of temperatures through the north bay valleys but a little cooler, low 50s at
