caltrain says its crews will continue to be out in full force this evening all the way through tomorrow and through saturday night. the sun peaking out. where really happy about that. that's the latest information here from highway 17. for more let's check with mark matthews. he's live in the oakland hills. >> here in the oakland hills, the temperature is dropping and that's not all. let me show you what dropped on woodrow off shepherd canyon. this is michael's house and a big tree snapped off and landed on his second story balcony. one big of that limb was hanging on the electrical wires that landed on his house. when the storm front came out this morning, the wind was really howling. >> i woke up 6:00, thought what's going on. really heavy. the rain was heavy. hours later we woke up with the sound of the tree. >> what did it sound like.

>> it's a huge like a truck hit something. really -- i cannot describe it unless you hear it. i don't wish for anybody though. i don't for anybody. >> inside the house, a limb poked through a couple of small holes in the ceiling. this is the second time in five years that a tree has his his house. after the first time he cut down 11 trees around the property. the neighbors complained but this morning he has to be thinking should have made it 12. from the oakland hills, mark matthews. >> thank you very much. more than 1,000 pg&e customers are without power. the south bay has the most with 460 outages. 400 reported in the north bay and 180 outages are on the peninsula. a few dozen reported in san francisco and in the east bay. now meteorologist mike nicco is in the weather center with more on the storm. is there more on the way, mike? >> there is.

but it won't be like this morning. this morning we had a steady, heavy rain when the cold front came through. still breezes around 25 to 35. they'll be out of the northwest. you'll notice the temperature will drop as the afternoon unfolds and we'll have more showers than steady rain. santa clara valley you can cecil ver creek valley road, mckee road. that's are the areas seen with some of the left over showers. by far the cold front down to the south with the bulk of the rain moving south on hollister and salinas. let's turn our attention up to the north. the last three hours you can see the scattered showers developing. these will rotate towards us during the afternoon and evening hours. right now only hamilton 33 degrees but the snow level will drop by 4:00 to nearly 1,000 feet in the north bay. that's why you're under winter weather advisory and it will drop overnight in the east bay hills, santa cruz mountains. so showers do roll over you.

you will get some snow down to that level. otherwise you will have a really cold rain. eric? >> mike, thank you very much. abc 7's amy hollyfield is in san francisco to continue our coverage. >> eric, it was like we're having a sun storm right now. hard to believe we're talking about possibly having some snow but as we all know the in bay area the weather can change so quickly. check out these pictures from just a few hours ago. it was very rainy on highway 101. cars were hydroplaning there was so much water. officials had to close a southbound on-ramp for a few minutes. but there were no major problems. in the city there were a few issues that kept work crews busy. a 30 foot tree came down around 7:00 around buchanan and pine. nobody was hurt but it hit a phone line on the way down. crews got it out of there pretty quickly. >> winds came through, knocked

the tree down. took down phone lines. we got the call and our crews responded immediately. we're prepared for this. we've had meetings what could happen for this weekend with the inclement weather, the winds and the ice in the road. >> in san francisco's oceanview neighborhood some power lines did come down because of a fallen tree. 360 customers lost power for a few hours there. over on the bay bridge there were a few issues for commuters. there was quite a bit of standing water right before the toll plaza and drivers seemed caught off guard. they were hitting it at full speed. there wasn't a lot of traffic this morning so they were going pretty quickly when that water caught them off guard. lots of big splashes but no major problems. there was a wind advisory on the bridge. we're hearing there's more to come. here in san francisco the crews here at the department of public works say they're ready. they're taking a break right now. trucks coming in.

required for anyone driving over highway 50 or interstate 80. more on the snow around here, let's go to abc 7 karina rusk on mount hamilton. look at that, christina. on top of mount hamilton which is 400 feet elevation. what we're getting right now is a lot of rain, even some hail but most of all bone-chilling winds. every time you have a weather event like this, you have people looking to play in the snow and mount hamilton can be a magnet but i'm going to warn you right now. this is not where you want to be. the 19 mile long road is narrow, it is windy. there is no place to park and literally only emergency vehicles are allowed on the side of the road so there is a very stern warning going out today for public safety reasons. in essence, even if you wanted to brave the road and the conditions up here to get to the snow, snow play is prohibited.

it happened just after 10:00 this morning. no word how serious injuries are but there is significant damage to that vehicle. we're going to bring you more on abc7news.com as soon as we get it. bart station agents say they need protection against increased assault. they pleaded with bart's board of directors for help. they want their booths built with bullet proof glass. the agency also needs to take a stronger stand against passengers who spit, punch or threaten them. 300 agents open and close those stations every day offering customer assistance and call for police help when needed. >> international news now. the u.n. human rights council today unanimously condemned libya. this comes as anti-government protestors moved closer to the capital of tripoli.

there are also reports from the region that militias loyal to qaddafi with a crowd of over 1,000 supporters calling for hem to fight back. the human rights group puts the death toll in libya at nearly 300 but other estimates say the number is more than 1,000. the death toll continues to rise in new zealand following tuesday's 6.3 magnitude quake. 113 people were killed, 228 are still missing. rescue crews continue to comb through the ruins at christ church but warned relatives the chances of finding anyone alive in the wreckage is slim. there was a bright spot in the tragedy. a woman pulled from the wreckage on tuesday went ahead with her wedding today. she was trapped in the cavity of the floors in her office building. she directed rescues to where she was and the couple got married today.

inch in santa rosa and petaluma. but you can see the heavy rain is over. the temperatures start to fall back into the 40s after being in the upper 40s to low 50s this morning. that's when you know the arctic air is rolling in when the sun is out and the temperatures are starting to get colder. showers, lowering snow levels. that's the highlight. the showers taper tonight and we have to worry about those freezing temperatures, especially the north bay tonight and all of us tomorrow night. wednesday and thursday won't be a cold one like this. 12:00, you remember seeing karina rusk on mount hamilton. that's going to continue off and on until 7:00. quiet during the evening hours and the upper level low. you can see in sonoma county around 9:00 moving down the coast down mount tamalpais and sliding down the peninsula and heading over to the east bay hills and the diablo range by 1:00 and then it will keep

snowing in that area as the snow levels will drop to around say 5 unfeet to 4 and 5:00 this morning. you may see flurries at the valley floor but it won't stick. we'll collect it out tomorrow afternoon. maybe a stray shower on mount hamilton but the rest of us don't need to worry about it, temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. heading to tahoe, that winter storm warning until 4:00 tomorrow morning. if you can, try to wait and leave tomorrow as we still have a couple more feet of snow about 7,000 feet. heading to tahoe the weekend, it's going to get cold. light snow tomorrow but sunshine for your sunday. bring it back home and here are those lows tonight. mid to upper 20s those north bay valleys, mid to upper 30s around the bay shore and out to the coast. so it's the north bay valleys tonight you need to worry about the hard freeze with temperatures in the middle 20s for four hours or longer.

and then tomorrow night all of us will be threatened by freezing temperatures. notice by sunday afternoon, we'll start to see a warming trend with low to mid-50s. a partly sunny sky on monday and chance of rain rolls back on tuesday, wednesday and thursday. but look at the highs then, upper 50s to near 60 degrees. a good 15 degrees warmer than today and tomorrow. >> mike, thanks. >> you bet. >> britney spears is coming to san francisco according to the san francisco examiner. the pop princess made the announcement in ayoub video saying she will perform for "good morning america" on march 29th in the castro district. that's the day her album femme fatale will be released. this will be her first morning tv performance to promote her new album. >> well, this sunday at the 83rd annual academy awards, you can watch it right here on abc 7. the show's hosts are ann shahat
