>> revolutions and military strikes in the middle east raise concerns for the region's christian. hello everyone i am wendy griffith. >> and i am george clooney. george thomas. the united states put together the coalition enforcing a no-fly zone over the nation of libya. state goal, to protect libyan citizens by a massacre by moammar gadhafi's forces. the conflict is raising forces about western interventions in muslim nations. specifically, charges of a christian crusade against the islamic face. cliffton clark is an associate professor of global missions at regent university. recently i spoke with him about this very issue.

>> do muslim nations see the u.s. through the eyes of the crusader lens when they look at what is taking place today? >> it is true, history is important. for a lot of muslims, looking back historically, it was the crusades that stopped the massive spread of islam. to many muslims, looking back now, it is all about this idea the west is again attacking islam. for many muslims they see that. one thing i would say: that for them it is not so much the crusades now as opposed the jihad. fighting to defend the faith. >> what are the implications for christians who serve in muslim countrys? >> whenever there is seed threat from the

west, perceived threat to the muslim community, adverse effect on christian community. we have seen the bombing we saw in egypt on january the 6th. these are all backlashes for what has taken place across the world. >> this predominantly muslim country, what are they dealing with today? >> there is a powerful long standing christian presence. that is important to take note of. today we have 3 percent, out of 97 percent sunni muslims, 3 percent christians, coptic christians which are about 60,000 in number. we have the catholic church with a seat in cairo. and we have a number of smaller evangelical churches. there was a small presence vulnerable community there. >> as this small vulnerable

community had the freedom, the room to flourish in the society? >> of course there is restrictions. you can't worship or proselytize. there was no overt persecution. >> was gadhafi good for the christian community in libya? >> i wouldn't say he was good. it is a question of [laughter] which is the worst of worst evils, i think. certainly, gadhafi kept back the muslim brotherhood who want today take over. we have the libyan islamic fighting group. also who wants to more radical islam in libya. many of them try today overthrow gadhafi because of his relationship with the west. for christians there was relative peace. although there wasn't complete freedom. >> i want to get your opinion about the so-called rebel groups r. they a friend or foe

of the united states and those of us here in the west? >> that is a big question. number of coalitions. people defecting from the government. if those democratic groups get together we could see great democracy taking place. my concern is groups like the muslim brotherhood, islam -- libyan fighting group, al-qaeda these groups which might put a face of -- they are lurking and they want a piece of the action. >> dr. clark talked about the muslim brotherhood, they are active throughout the muslim world. there is growing concern this group is taking over the revolution that swept hosni mubarak from power in egypt. >> all right. thanks so much george. as many feared that group is gaining influence in egypt. increasingly the secular faiths are being shouldered aside in

unload 4 large trucks of aid material. supplies sent by samaritan's purse a christian organization out of north carolina, usa. >> we have a warehouse in charlotte, basic supplies usually needed everywhere at times like this. we started loading a 747 at the time getting it ready to come over here. these folks have been waiting along time. people haven't had food. they are still waiting, still eager to help. >> finally the trucks arrive, willing hands unload 92 tons of supplies, food, diapers, blankets, fuel cans, bars of soap and hygiene kits as well as other supplies. this is not just a group of emergency responders, young, old, and either foreigners are pitching in. >> we have water, food, everything we need. so fortunate. now i want to help other people.

shift in our nation. but in our media and particular in our law that treats the whole homosexual issue, whole gay agenda as something absolutely e quivalent to race. >> it is part of a broad agenda. >> they call it human rights. they use these grand terms like tolerance and diversity. it is a hard-nose political agenda of which an objective appears to be judeo christian morality from the public realm. >> british government has proposed a plan to put it in the curriculum even math to help children view homosexuality as normal. a british high court said christian beliefs on homosexual ethics maybe harmful to

children. >> the government argued it being judeo christian views on homosexuality. >> one of the risky things to say if you are a therapist is that homosexuals are not born that way or become heterosexual. after strudwick's underconversation, the british medical -- strudwick told cbn news, gay people are at risk of hate and tolerance and persecution. there is no evidence conversion therapy works and plenty of evidence it does damage. he added love needs no cure. >> people do change after treatment and have a high success rate. no evidence of harm.
