we begin with developing news in contra costa county where sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal shooting. >> it happened in 300 block at bay point. within the last ten minutes, sheriff's investigators cleared out the scene as they say. we can show you the red evidence markers. this is hammond way, 300 block. let's show you what it look like

a short time ago. there were numerous investigators out from the contra costa sheriff's department and evidence van. you can see a white car. that is the car we believe that was driven by a man was shot and killed by a deputy about 1:15 this morning. we have very few details. a spokesperson that the shooting occurred about 1:15 during a traffic stop. jimmy lee also told me that the officer, the deputy felt threatened by the occupant in the vehicle. er asked whether a weapon was involved or a gun and he said no so the officer was apparently feeling threatened by the individual. the investigation wrapped up a few minutes ago and now taken over by the district attorney's office and the sheriff's department.

barry bonds former mistress is on the stands on the home run king's perjury trial. a tearful kimberly bell testified about psychological changes allegedly from taking steroid. terry mcsweeney, she made serious allegations. >> reporter: she testified that bond on more than one occasion threatened to kill her and gave specific ways he was going to kill her. this is was bonds' girlfriend. later she became hits mistress. they were together nine years. he gave up sums of money up to $10,000 in cash at times. his testicles shrunk. he had acne on his back, hair fell out. all symptoms of steroid abuse but when had bell holding back about her threatening her life

during a rage. once he said he would cut his surgically enhanced breast and another he threatened to burn down the house that he bought. bond had no idea what he was going to be running in to. bell didn't have any idea when she was cross-examined. the attorney says that she had shopped her story around doing tv showing and telling the story again and again but not once again ever breaking down in tears as she sounded like she was about to on the witness stand today. legal analyst dean johnson joins us now. you were in the courtroom and watched the jury and very interesting reaction from the e-mail from the jurors. >> normally the juror is

impassive but when chris started cross-examining about the hundred thousand fee for playboy interview. i noticed two of female jurors and wouldn't even look at the witness. >> let me ask you this. she started out strong, kimberly bell and then came under fire. what do you think the jury is taking away from this? >> right now, it's about even. kimberly bell gave probably the most relevant testimony we've heard this far saying barry bonds toll her that an elbow injury was due to steroids because his muscles had grown too fast. that was first time that we heard anybody knew that that he was taking steroids. but whether they are going to give it any weight he is still under very intensive cross-examination. >> the afternoon coming up.

victim is being treated at a sacramento trauma center. residents were evacuated for about nine hours while authorities searched for more explosives but no other bombs were found. investigators were trying figure out if he was specific target involved. >> members of the state puc is deciding to approve a plan to fine pg&e at least $3 million for missing pipeline documents. in an agreement reached the puc last thursday, pg&e agreed to pay a fine immediately and possibly pay another $3 million depending on their ability to produce more documents in the future. they wanted to verify the safety of pressure levels for 1800 miles of gas transmission lines but pg&e only came up with records of 455 miles of pipeline. san francisco fire department

says the electrical line may be to blame for an explosion in san francisco that blew the cover off a manhole. was reported at corner of post street. intersection remains closed while crews repair the line. >> eric: the city of san pablo is bringing in heavy equipment in hopes of keeping a slide from sliding any further. amy hollyfield is in san pablo. city officials talked about it today. >> they had an all hands meeting to discuss what to do next. they need to figure it out. i want you to take a good luck at this backyard. so how wiped out it is. it has changed a lot since friday. now a picture from any friday. it looks bad then but it is worse now. that is why authorities had

evacuated this family and yellow-tagged the home. they are paying for the family to stay in a hotel and they have set up a donation fund in trying to figure out what to do next. the hillside is trying to save it but authorities are way out to make that decision. >> we're discussing it but it will be the determination whether it can be repaired. if it can be repaired by look at some of the solution and how much it may cost to do. hopefully we can get fund out here from fema or whoever, the county to shore up this hill. it's not just behind my house. this is the last point of something that a little bit bigger. >> reporter: city officials today are clearing out trees from this hillside before they fall down on their own. residents are relieved to see the trees go.

they have been leaning since the slide making everyone a bit nervous. city declared an emergency so officials can use funds that were sed set aside for emergencies. and this they were hoping to get the county and state to do the same. they are grateful for help if the city and they are hoping for help from insurance companies because look how much they have to clean up. it's such a mess back here and insurance companies still aren't here yet. as for the donation fund, city hasn't set it up yet. stay with abc7 on the story if you are interested in helping. >> kristen: in monterey county caltrans and chp are offering helicopter shuttle service for big sur residents cut off by a section of highway 1 that is sliding into the ocean. it begin crumbling two weeks

after heavy rains. two-mile section of highway 1 and big sur is completely closed. crews say it will take a month to fix. this morning, helicopter shuttles begin ferg customers. >> two southbound lanes of i-80 have been closed for emergency repairs. chp crews closed them around 8:30 this morning to fill potholes between fifth avenue and embarcadero. two lanes are expected to remain closed until 12:30 this afternoon. drivers should take 580 as an alternate route. >> last week we told you the recent series of storms had washed out beavers' dam last week. a group called worth a dam showing one of the beavers to

along the san mateo coast they are speeding up in the wake of a debt of surfer. he died march 16th after wiping out at a wave on half moon bay. his body was found by another surfer. he was not supposed to be water to protect the rules of marine habitat. some surfers say regular jet ski patrols may save lives. >> jobs may open up in contra costa county. a wave of retirement applications is due to be expected in pay and benefit cuts to county unions. it's based on how much he or she earned in the last year of work.
