we begin with developing news in hayward where a house to house search is on the way for three burglary suspects. >> canine and air support has joined them. cecilia vega has the story. >> this is very active crime scene. the investigation is underway. i'm going to step out the way so you can see what is going on. this is command post at darwin street in a residential

neighborhood. police are searching for at least two burglary suspects, possibly three. they are possibly inside homes here. let's take a look at video that sky 7 shot a few minutes ago. they have a portion of the neighborhood locked down. there are neighbors out in the area but as the authorities search for burglary suspects, this is still an active incident. police are searching for two to three men believed to be involved in a residential burglary. it hand around 9:30 this morning. a resident saw the suspects inside their house. that was few blocks from the command post area and they believe they fled over a few blocks away and possibly as we said are inside these homes. all we know about the suspects is that they are three

african-american males with dreadlocks. in addition to hayward police, there are bart police and chp helicopter overhead. we were also told that authorities were searching for the suspects as they got the call and the suspects begin to flee the scene. they crashed into a hayward police cruiser. it's not believed the officer was injured. we think he was outside of his car. apparently there is some damage to the patrol vehicle. we will keep you posted with the latest at 5:00 this evening. >> cheryl: thanks very much. we have very positive news in richmond about turning a toxic site into clean green jobs and open space. it will be developed around 47 the street and florida avenue. terry? >> reporter: this is the

mira flores site. if you ever seen those abandoned greenhouses, that is what we are talking about, for decades, tons of pesticides were poured on to the plants that were growing here. it got so bad it became a toxic waste site. today the city of richmond and state of california begins to change all of that. take a look at some pt representatives, meeting out here today. they are ecstatic what is going to be happening the transformation they have planned. first of all there will be a cleanup, federal and state epa is involved. federal government providing the $600,000 in seed money to clean up the area. the redevelopment area that purchased the site in 2006 is now moving ahead with a very green and job producing project. >> all the building will be green certified community and green belt that they are putting into the design as well as urban

available along these lines as well as solar construction which is going to be going on out there. it sounds like a win-win for everybody in richmond today. >> cheryl: thanks very much. more signs for anybody looking for a job. national employment rate says the private seg for added 200,000 jobs in march. chief executive says the majority of america's largest companies plans to increase hiring in the sex six months. silicon valley companies are in a hiring frenzy. companies like google, facebook and twitter are hiring on a rapid pace. they say this kind of hiring hasn't happened since early 2000. state of california added nearly 100,000 jobs mainly due to the tech industry. that reduced the unemployment rate to 12.2% in february.

>> kristen: a neighborhood in hercules is putting a barricade up hoping to protect homes from a hillside collapse. they declared a state of emergency as couple homes are the only thing holding up a crumbling hill. >> reporter: they are counsel instructing it but check how far it stretches down carson street. they hope that will catch any mud that comes crashing down. it's gorgeous today but authorities are still very worried. water is rushing out of the soggy hillside. even though it hasn't rained in two days. looking at all this water you would think today's dry weather would be a welcome relief. think again. >> it can cause just as many problems. right now the soil expands when its wet. when it starts to dry out. it starts to contract.

that contraction can cause those slip plains in the hill to reactivate because they are expanding and contracting. gravity comes to work and the hill comes down. >> reporter: so the city spent the morning putting up more barricades. >> i didn't get any sleep at all. i was up all night. >> terry has been yellow-tagged and he is hoping it can be saved. last night they declared an emergency so officials can apply for state funds to help the homeowners. >> it city has no money to invest in the hill. >> this is the house he predicts will come down first. it looks worse this morning than it did last night but other homeowners on this side of the street refuse to believe their situation is hopeless. >> we need to work together as a

>> kristen: scientists have found a tree in san francisco with oak disease. this the second time it's been found in the city. the trees near west pacific avenue is one of few native trees in san francisco. they believe it was infected by a plant in a garden of a nearby home. >> cheryl: president obama addresses rising gas prices. the president set an ambitious goal of reducing oil imports by a third while boosting domestic oil production. he also wants to increase the use of biofuels and make vehicles more energy efficient. he said america needs to change its energy culture to make this country more energy sufficient. >> here is the bottom line, there is no quick fixes.

temperatures. show you what is going on. some clouds if i look northwest of sutro tower. at&t park, game three. it's pre-season it will be gorgeous, temperatures in the 70s at at&t park. other than half moon bay, everybody on the positive side from three degrees in oakland to 13 degrees in santa rosa. that is the area the north bay that is most likely to see some record high temperatures, possibly concord. temperature in santa rosa, 70. low to mid-50s, 57 as you head towards antioch. 59 in half moon bay. around the monterey bay, temperatures in the low to mid-60s. records are possible today but also tomorrow. cooler air hits the coast on

friday and cooler breezes will bloevp blow over bringing our temperatures back to average. so today our best chance of seeing a record, santa rosa, forecasting 82. 82 is the record from 2001. that is when concord will be close at 80. napa is at 78 which will be close. south bay, temperes in the mid to upper 70s. low to mid-70s on the peninsula, mid 60s along the coast. downtown san francisco, right around 70, 71 degrees. mid to upper 70s in most the valleys. santa rosa in the low 80s. asterisk is back for santa rosa and napa possible record high. low to mid-70s in east bay shore. 80 in concord. danville and brentwood. everybody else in the upper 70s. even some 80s around gilroy and hollister.

12:45, first pitch, sunny and low 70s. mid to upper 70s through the valleys. a little breezy around l.a. palm springs is the warm spot in the state. low to mid-50s. look for breezes to develop. especially in the north bay and east bay hills. and the offshore, land breeze is going to develop and the reason why we'll be near record highs for the next few days with temperatures reaching in the 80s and even more so tomorrow. we could be in the mid-80s. upper 70s around the bay and upper 60s along the coast. that breeze will move in friday and cool us about six degrees. then about another 6-10 degrees cooling. it it's still a slight chance of a shower on saturday but most of that will fall in the central valley and sierra.

federal health officials begin hearings on the safety of artificial food coloring. fda has decided to take a closer look at allegations there may be a link between colorings and hyperactivity in children. they are asking a panel of experts to look at the issue with eye towards new warning labels. they are commonly found in cereals and chips. decades of studies show that artificial food colorings are safe. >> a new debate over a doll because it teaches little girls how to breast-feed. a young girl attaching the doll to her chest and it can be burped by a mommy in training. they say it teaches nursing skills. >> do you think little girls should be breastfeeding dolls? >> i probably would look at
