field again finally. right there with them is their loyal fans, taking pictures, of course. the sentiment home openers are special but this one is extra special. >> rod and eva showed up at at&t park a quarter to 5:00 this morning. they realized the game starts at 1:35 this affternoon b but they wanted to soak it all in as soon asas possible. >> i don't know. it was crazy. we love opening day, home opener. we've been here several times before and there is nothing like it. we got the championship last year, it's going on to be more awesome. >> fans gathered at public restaurant and they were sharing memos. >> it's opening day and this is great time to have them back in the city for all the enjoyment

we got last year. it was magical. >> the world series championship trophy also got here early this morning. it will be on prominent display at today's game. team officials say they have some supplies for the home opener even the added weight to present world champions they say it wasn't difficult to plan the ceremonies. >> there wasn't much pressure because we had so many people volunteer to be part of opening day. there is a lot of love for giants around the country. >> the ceremony will be a moment of reflection for bryan stow. he was beaten up by two dodger fans after the season opener in l.a. stow's family says he was planning to be here for today's game and he is in the hospital about a fractured skull. giant officials say security was top of the program. >> we are doing a refresh of

every security are pro caution. a lot of things the fans won't notice. >> today's opening ceremony is expected to open at 1:25. they are not saying who is throwing out the opening pitch. they want to keep it secret but they will be making history when they unfurl the world championship banner for the first time in history. >> in san francisco, a jury deliberations are underway in the barry bonds trial. we got words that greg anderson will be released from prison tomorrow. he refused to testify during the trial. they are considering three counts of personal and one count of on instruction. he is accused of making false statement that he never knowingly received steroids from his trainer anderson.

he admitted using drugs by proed by anderson but claims they were flax seed oil. most of the witnesses who testified against bonds either had an ax to grind or financial motive. dean johnson has been watching all along and joins us from federal building in san francisco. anderson released today? >> yeah, essentially the custody is moot because there is no more evidence to be given in the trial. there is no reason to hold him in order to coerce him to testify. >> also this morning, i think we just learned about this, newspapers papers were filed to bring the jury saying the prosecutor asking of egregious misconduct? >> the defense attorneys are trying to undermine the powerful arguments made by prosecutor saying that perot misstated the evidence and did prosecutorial

misconduct. but you so to object to it when it happens otherwise the objection is waived. i think that the way the judge will see it. >> and finally how do you think the case going to go? >> as i said the prosecutor made some powerful arguments yesterday but i still envision this case as an acquittal for barry bonds. >> cheryl: we're going to keep monitoring the case and bring you the results of the jury verdict. in the meantime, baseball program at california berkeley has been saved apparently thanks to the hard work of people that did a massive amount of fund-raising for it. they have received $9 million in pledges to fund baseball. they were presented to the chancellor by a former cal pitcher that led the effort. that is 10% short to get $10 million to save the team.

restaurant owner. they say the owner of a mexican restaurant was shot this morning outside the restaurant service entrance. he was active in local business and cultural affairs. he served as president of fruitvale merchants association. they represented campos as loved member of the community and has called for a meeting with police today. anyone with information is asked to call oakland police. >> cheryl: a california highway patrol is in the hospital with a broken leg after being hit by a car. he was at the scene of a car crash on 880 on the bascom off-ramp when another driver struck him. it was the cause had by a quick moving car. the driver who hit the officer has been arrested for driving under the influence. >> kristen: the deal that is making google one of the biggest players in the travel business.

the old hospital in oakland is going out with a bang. the hospital will be imploded around noon. terry mcsweeney is there. this has to be done with special care. >> reporter: very special caretf dynamite and putting it in 3500 holes drilled in the facility. shortly after noon, what you are looking at right now, this is a 11 story building, 597 beds were here in its prime. it will be a five minute event to take it down. the safety perimeter is going to be secured by personnel on the ground. we're told all hazardous materials have been taken out of the building and the concrete was checked out and there is no asbestos in it. having said all that, what do you think when you live closer to the implosion than anyone else. >> i've never experienced an implosion before. i remember when the geneva

towers imploded in san francisco there was a big gathering. i think it's a good thing for the neighborhood. so hopefully it be done safely. >> i have a lot of history over there. my husband was in the military. it's such an eyesore right now. i'm sad it's at this point. >> a company called suncal owns the property. they bought it along with lehman brothers. they are looking for funding to build the homes out there. the plan is for 960 homes and commercial and retail space. 50 acres is still going to be green out here. today at noon, the bill deal is that building is coming down, an implosion that caused a gathering and lyanne melendez is up here. she will be checking it out and watch memories come back for people that have a lot of memories for this hospital.

you too have fair weather clouds out there. pretty cool. 49 redwood city. 51 in san francisco. winds are still with us gusting out of northeast. oakland over 20 miles an hour. napa, pretty breezy and look we te winds. if you are headed to the ballpark it will be breezy there and temperatures will continue to be on the cool side this afternoon. at least the sunshine helping to warm us up a little bit. we will have cold temperatures and winds should back off in some of the protected valleys in the north bay. and temperatures will be coupling up over the weekend. area of low pressure that brought all that weather yesterday and this morning continues to sink to the south. it's going to travel to the east. it is out of here. we don't have to worry any more about showers. in fact we'll see more sunshine. the temperatures remain below

the average. san francisco should see 63 degrees today. it's been cool and add a little wind to that even to start our sunshine at the ballpark, temperatures are shy of the mid-50s and continue to climb but we will have a breeze out of north. so it's going to feel rather cool but a nice bright afternoon and temperatures remaining a good five to seven degrees below average here with temperatures in the upper 50s to about 60 in los gatos. 60 in air is fog d.b.a. in the 50s but bright and sunny. mid-50s for half moon bay and pacifica. san francisco all around the city you'll be in the upper 50s. it's a little bit of a breeze, richmond and sunset district, 61 in santa rosa and numbers struggling to make it in the mid-60s around clearlake. out over the hills, that is it,
