police now say the shooting at san jose state university last night was murder-suicide. >> three people including the shooter are dead. it happened on the tenth street parking garage on campus. we don't know if the victims were students but do we know why it happened. >> they say there is no motive for certain yet. they are deflecting questions about a possible love triangle, students and teachers have said that it could happen in the garage behind me. the students are very upset about the notification system. >> within minutes of arriving at the fifth floor of the garage, police decided this man demurred this picture by a spartan daily newspaper photographer was the gunman that had shot two others

before shooting himself. >> police were able to immediately ascertain that it involved three individuals, no more than the three individuals and campus was not in danger. >> she teaches child development and she was not allowed to enter the garage immediately following the shootings. >> i'm coming back to my car at night when it's dark. it's frightening. it's very sad. it's really a tragic situation. >> not far from where the cleanup was going on we found eddie parking his truck. >> i was sort of thing about maybe there will be people worried about parking over here but it's over so it doesn't matter. >> some are criticizing the campus notification system which was installed following the 2007 shooting rampage at virginia

tech. >> i'm not part of the alert system but nobody got an alert about what happened. >> keep in mind the alert system in order to send out instructions especially shelter in place. if we don't have an immediate need for that instruction, we're going to turn our attention to other priorities. it was life saving measures for the three involved. of course those lives could not be saved. the shooter died at valley medical center. the other two were pronounced dead at the scene. counseling is available for students starting at 9:00 this morning until 4:00 this afternoon. live at san jose campus, terry mcsweeney. >> solano is investigating a double homicide in vallejo. they found a body inside a car that was shot to death. not far away they found the body of a second man in a driveway of a home.

a third man was hiding in garage. they arrested him for drugs but he does not appear to be related to the shootings. hundreds of the kids are standing in protest instead of sitting in class today in union city. they are calling attention not only to state education cuts but their own community which voted down a parcel tax to fund school needs. amy hollyfield is live at a local high school. a check of attendance records indicates that more than 600 kids attended the protest. it was very peaceful and very organized. >> these logan high school students air is they know they should be in class. they know the district loses money when they aren't in school but they felt so desperate they walked out anybody. >> not getting a lot of money, but we're not getting money at all. we've given up $10 million already.

>> teachers have declared a state of emergency and organized a variety of protests against cuts to education. in alameda in morning, teachers handed how the leaflets. in sacramento they are conducting sit-ins at the capital. >> yesterday, may 9th, protestors -- >> it's intense in union city because of parcel tax just failed this week to help schools by 32 votes. extracurricular activities and school counselors will get cut unless the state steps in. >> it's bad for logan. this is my home. i love it here. i'm really thinking about the students come in and choir students are going to be here when i leave. >> in parents showed up at the protest not to scold them but to

support them. >> doing a great job. >> reporter: of course, in union city they are hoping the state will fund education and not do any more drastic cuts. parents are organizing a grassroots fund-raising effort for the schools. amy hollyfield, "abc 7 news." the largest school district in contra costa county is making big counts. mount diablo voted to lay off 180 teachers and other staff to help balance a budget deficit. teachers and parents held a rally before a meeting in concord. state budget cuts along with declining enrollment prompted the fword make cuts and warned that more cuts could be necessary depending on the state's final budget plan. in san francisco the school board issued to issue final had layoff notices to more than 300 employees. sunday is the state mandated deadline of any employee that
