one of the chihuahua died before they could get her to the hospital. when he got home, the other one was having seizures and died at the emergency clinic. >> we lost tammy and cookie. you know, our family is devastated. why would some sick person do that? >> the diot home appeared to be the next target. daisy, cinnamon and happy all died. a cat ran off to hide and hasn't been seen since. >> i'm sorry the way they died. it was violent. nothing should have to suffer the way they served. >> a dog at another neighbor's house also died. that family has small children. and decided to pack up and leave the area. all the pet owners say they found food in their backyard. they don't normally feed their pets. >> we found food. we found a mix of weanie and hamburger meat. it must have been laced with something. >> those who lost their pets say all of the backyard

backed up to one man home. >> all the signs are leading to one person. and it's all around one house. all the animals around one certain house is gone. >> their concern led animal control investigator to dave aikenson's home. he took away a few small bowls from the yard and a can. he said he was out of town workg yeerdaand esn't know why t neighbors would blame him. >> i don't know where it came from. >> i don't know where the accusation came from. >> animal control says is there have been no prior complaint in the area and they have made no arrests. aiken says he did not have anything to do with this. the investigator took away all the evidence he could find. now they will process it until the investigation continues. >> thank you very much. a murder investigation is under way in upscale sfravens neighborhood. police say a man's body was found in the water near fort

mason in marina district. trail of blood was left behind. abc7's karina rusk is live at the scene. karina? >> there is a lot of activity here. police are looking in the possibility that the crime started at the post office a half a block from here. there is a trail of blood that goes through the intersection at buchanan and marina bvmd and ends in the fort mason parking lot. the person who discovered the body called police at 6:36 this morning. three hours later they confirmed that the victim was a young man. >>. a 19-year-old white male, fully clothed and found in the water. identification has not been made. it's being investigated as a homicide. >> police say at 10:30 last night, they did get a call about a fresh trail of blood. state-of-the-arted in front of the post office at bucannon and beach and made its way to the pier area.

at that time, the officers from the northern nation responded. >> the marina green area is a big parking lot area. they searched from one end to the other looking in vehicles and looking for people. they did not find any victims. >> a team from the medical examiner's office has been on scene much of the morning. hundreds of joggers, bikers and tourists are diverted around a destination point for many. >> the plan is to go over the golden gate bridge to saucelito. maybe to veron because my daughter is here for the first time. >> police are canvassing the area looking for witnesses to what happened last night. they are defending the initial search and decision not to come back to the area before this morning's discovery of a body. >> there was a sufficient amount of officers last night to look. and they searched the vehicles. they have if equipment to do that. they used a light and they did not find the victim. what more do you want them to do? >> that was abc7's karina rusk reporting. >> you can see all the

the fire spread. the pictures you show, show how intense flames were. the damage shows you destruction. behind me, you see a share of the building that remains. kappa sigma is destroyed. i want to show you how it started. >> flames tore through the roof of the fraternity house, seconds after the last occupant walked out sleepily and confused. the firefighters from the multiple agencies sent to the predawn blaze after 3:30 a.m. when a resident called 9/11 and reported smelling smoke and seeing flames. >> we are safe. the firefighters are here. we're fine. the smoke turned in to huge fire. >> the firefighters initially began with a defensive approach. attacking the fire inside. at the second floor laundry

room. once it was clear that the fire was increasing in intensity, an order was given to evacuate the building where all 28 students made it out safely and could only watch in stunned amazement. >> once a hole was torn through the roof to attack from above, the call to four alarms was made. defensive operation began. attacking the building from outside. in all directions. including this massive stream from fire ladders. there was a great deal of manpower on display. more than three hours later, the fire was officially contained. yet, as effective as the operation was today, captain brown knows that things could be very different tomorrow. >> with the staffing and companies opening, they are looking at the brown out. >> they're looking through water logged memorabilia and dripping photographs to mark

an episode none of them will forget. right now, students are still retrieving some of the items from inside the building. the take-away this afternoon, the only injury reported was that of a firefighter who is one of the first responders. we also know that the community immediately reached out. not only did they receive word from san jose state offering housing to've of them, the fraternity brothers and sisters up and down the street offered shelter, food and clothing. in san jose, nick smith, abc7 news. >> that is great to hear. thank you very much. >> in oakland, they are looking for families to find homes after a fire gutted a victorian building where they were living. it happened after 2:00 in 23rd block. and electrical problem they believe started the fire. smoke detectors alerted all the residents. they were able to evacuate quigley and safely. a firefighter had a minor injury. less than an hour, it may be hard to hail a cab in san francisco.
