private information of 2,000 bart customers. this comes as intart gearing up for a demonstration at 5:00 this afternoon at a san francisco station. amy hollyfield joins us. amy? >> reporter: the questioning goes both ways. protesters are questioning bart and the fact that officials turned off cell phone service during a protest. and san francisco mayor ed lee this morning is also criticizing bart for doing that. bart officials are standing by their tactics saying this area is fine. you can demonstrate your freedom of speech and you can have a protest up here on the sidewalk. it's when you go downstairs. under ground they say it can get dangerous and they're going to use extreme measures to protect the passengers. heather desmond made it to the san francisco civic center bart station without problems but she is concerned about getting out. she decided to change her routine this afternoon in the hopes of avoiding a scheduled protest. >> i'm getting on the embarcadero to get home as

quick as possible. before it all starts. >> bart riders are finding themselveses in the middle of the dispute between the bart officials and protestsers from the group anonymous. not only is the evening commute in jeopardy, but 2,000 users of the my bart website have the password and e-mail addresses made public as part of a cyber attack against bart. heather desmond is one of those my bart subscribers. >> that i don't think was right because it has to support passengers who are doing this. it involves the bart police and not us. yeah, i don't think that is right. >> the group cyber attack was to retaliate against the bart officials for shutting down cell phone service at some bart stations on thursday. bart spokesman said they did it to prevent the group from protesting on the bart platform, which he says is not allowed. the group was trying to protest shooting man of a death by bart police.

>> the protesters are taking that tool and turning it around and violating the customer's constitutional rights of safety. >> bart officials worry someone could fall on the electrical rail or in front of a fast moving train. but some public officials including san francisco mayor ed lee question why bart officials would shut down people's cell phone service. >> i just don't agree with that. i don't think that was a good move. i don't know what all the reasons were. we're going to be talking to bart about how they came to that conclusion. >> so the mayor, f.b.i., a lot of people are watching this dispute. up next is the scheduled protest at 5:00 this afternoon at the civic center plaza. it's scheduled to happen at the station. but the bart police say they don't know much more about what the protesters plan to do. they won't say if they will shut down the cell phone service again. live in san francisco, amy

hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. we'll cover this, this afternoon. amy, thank you so much. all right, we have big news out of silicon valley this morning. the largest, the world's largest internet search engine is getting bigger. google is buying the cell fon maker motorola mobility for more than $12 billion in cash. it's the mountain view based company biggest acquisition ever. both boards approved the deal and will give google control over maker of some of the android phone. they run the smart phone to compete with apple iphone and blackberry. google's ceo larry page said together we'll create amazing user experience to supercharge the android ecosystem for benefit of consumers, partners and developers. >> some oakland city services will be unavailable because of the budget cuts including streep sweets. the libraries are closed and will be open tomorrow. animal service is shut down but there is staffing to

pick up strays. the city north, west, downtown senior city are closed. city parks are open but not staffed so bathrooms are locked. it's part of the agreement by the labor union to balance the deficit. police fire, emergency services will not be affected by the furloughs. >> a violent light in oakland. police are investigating three separate shootings that injured six people including two children. one of the shootings happened at the 5900 block of spencer street before 10:00. police say a man and woman were shot and two children playing in front of the house were hit with bullet fragments. all four went to t hospital in stable condition. the first shooting happened around 9:25 last night on martin luther king junior way. investigators say gunfire injured a teenager. he is expected to survive. police received police report of gunfire around 1:40 near the 1200 block of east 22nd street. they say a man was shot and is in critical condition. police have no motive or suspects in any of the

shootings. >> the sacramento county coroner will conduct autopsies today to learn more and how a kidnapped girl and her father died. the sheriff discoveries discovered the body of mourad samaan and his 2-year-old daughter madeline samaan-fay saturday night near placerville. they were both found inside samaan's 4-runner, the car described in statewide alert in amber alert. today, independent state panel is expected to give final approve to new maps for california's congressional and legislative district. the panel was formed after voters took away legislators' power to draw political boundaries. analysts say the new map give hispanic voter a strong influence in a number of districts and may allow democrats to achieve a two-third majority in sacramento. to study the maps yourself, link to the website

abc7news.com. i should say there is a link on our website under see it on tv. president barack obama is getting out of washington and kicking off a three-day bus tour of the midwest. just as his approval rating hits an all-time low. the president held a town hall meeting in cannon falls, minnesota, answering questions from the audience. in the next two days he will visit iowa and illinois. gallup poll shows his approval rating dropped to 39%. the president blasted republicans for stalling negotiations in the debt crisis. >> we can't have the patients with that behavior anymore. i know you are frustrated. i'm frustrated, too. meanwhile, texas governor rick perry is campaigning at the iowa state fair after jumping in the presidential race over the weekend. perry and the other candidates continue to attack president obama on the economy. >> i am a pro-business governor. i have don't make apologies about it. i will be a pro-business

president. >> now this weekend iowa straw poll proved decisive for former minnesota governor tim pawlenty who ended his run for the presidency after finishing third in saturday's test vote. congresswoman michele bachmann won the straw poll and continues campaigning in the state. summer vacation is over for thousands of bay area students. many school districts are kicking off a new school year today including san francisco, where somehow despite budget challenges there are new signs of academic progress. abc7's nick smith is live at the middle school with the story. nick? >> good morning. san francisco school board supervisor carlos garcia and others are making the rounds this morning, this being the first day of school in the city of san francisco. it's also the release date of standardized test scores that showed student performance in the classroom is on the rise. >> the number of parents and little ones arriving at the paul revere school were too many to count. if some, it was a trip they

made before. but others if it was for if first time. for administrators, faculty and it was an opportunity to be boastful. the 2011 standardized testing and reporting program, star exams, set to be revealed this morning. according to the california department of education, the california students continue to steadily improve performance across the board. with larger portion than ever scoring proficient or higher. this is good news for paul revere when 70% of the students are identified as socioeconomically disadvantaged and students of color primarily. >> it's a lot of things. i feel like really big. really glad. >> the school and community have been working to turn around the history of low-academic achievement and the efforts appear to be working. >> for decades, we have never shown improvement. not enough for

tragedy on saturday. we're seeing new cell phone video shot by witness recording a concert when the stage collapsed. we now know that fair officials did get high winds warning several minutes before it happened. scott gotberg has the latest. >> reporter: we come with hearts broken but full, governor daniels said. as the state fair reopened. i cannot tell you how proud i am. >> reporter: the fairs had been closed since saturday night when a deadly gust of wind tore down scaffolding from the main stage minutes before sugar land was supposed to play. >> people were laying on the grounds. >> chaos. chaos. >> david wood is one of the

many who rushed in trying to free people pinned underneath. >> after i climbed back in there, people were hollering i'm a doctor and emt. it was astonishing. >> the national weather service was tracking the storm and 8:39 issued severe thunderstorm warning. at 8:35, announcer says storms are coming but there is no order to evacuate. winds moving faster than 60 miles per hour moved in. five people died. others injured. >> what is remarkable is throughout the rest of the fairgrounds, midway particularly, there were no damages to structures there. >> reporter: several state agencies are investigating to see if anything could have prevented this or if governor daniels claims the tragedy was a freakish accident. the indiana state police says it will likely take weeks or months before they have answers. scott goldberg, abc news, new york. doctors at the san francisco general say the

take a look from the top down. visible satellite. you can see how few clouds are out there right now. and what we showed you is more the exception than the rule for most of the neighborhoods. as far as temperatures, responding quickly to the sunshine. half moon bay, at 63. we have 70-degree weather until we get to antioch already at 81. low to mid-60s. monterey, santa cruz. is 71 at watsonville. almost 80 in gilroy. sunshine, that's what we have today. seasonal temperatures. look for more clouds during tonight and tomorrow morning commute. still pretty mild. if we have drizzle, it's along the coast. the weekend, cooling trend right now. still a few days away. we will keep it in the back of our mind. fremont, two degrees cooler than yesterday. concord and san jose the same. oakland and san francisco, one to two. that puts the temperatures close to average.

come from this week. tonight, 705 first pitch at the coliseum. clear skies. temperatures 63, dropping to 68 degrees with the game with the orioles end. you can see the clouds more widespread with the bay. the sea breeze will draw moisture in. the temperature is nice stepping outside in the 50s. watching an area of high pressure move in from the southwest. keep our temperatures close to average. another area of high pressure out over the ocean. this pushed far enough away that will keep temperatures pretty close to average. high pressure over the ocean returns marine layer. so much stronger. look at clouds friday, saturday, sunday. they will aid in the temperature drop of 5 to 10 degrees by the weekend. >> thanks a lot. >> you bet. a new report by uc davis that shocked even the researchers. it's about autism. the report suggests that brothers and sisters of autistic kids have a higher risk of developing the disorder. they studied 664 infants

with at least one older sibling with autism. 19% of those younger siblings were diagnosed with autism as well by the time they were 3. the study said the younger siblings risk of autism is 20 times greater than children of the general population. that study can be found in today's pediatrics online. >> the san francisco giants have two more fans this morning. very little fans. the team confirms tin juried star catcher -- the injured star catcher posey is a proud father of twins. the boy and a girl that were born yesterday. posey said he wanted to be off crutches before the babies arrived so his wife kristen would haven't to take care of all of them. well, he is off crutches. but still in rehab. hopefully they will be in the giants onesies cheering their dad on next season. congratulations. >> yeah. still ahead, only august and we're talking the holidays. move over santa.
