waiting to go to court. >> 3-year-old carlos nava was killed by a stray bullet on thursday. amy hollyfield has more. >> reporter: he is only 3 years old but there are dig any theirs at the little guy's funeral, include congresswoman barbara lee. there are law enforcement officials and the priest told me he is going to use the opportunity to address them and get out the message. that together as a whole, the community has got to come together to try and bring peace and stop the violence. a group of mourners arrived together here at st. bernard church in oakland wearing t-shirts with the victim's picture on them. 3-year-old carlos nava was caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting monday at 1:00 in the afternoon. police believe the killers were targeting two men from a rival gang. police just announced they have made a second arrest in the shooting. they found 22-year-old willie torrence in las vegas. this murder created so much outrage in oakland that the

priest at the church says the family needs support from the community right now. >> they are destroyed. the child is three years old. we never thought it would happen. the children bury the parents, not the parents burying the children. i believe with the support of the community makes them going to continue life. carlos will be missed, of course. >> reporter: take a look at the scene where carlos was killed. it is full of hundreds of stuffed animals and candles. there are even children's books. this is on international boulevard right around 65th. the huge statement from the community that he will not be forgotten. the priest here at st. bernard church is hoping that the death will be a bridge to bring an end to violence in oakland.

back to the investigation, the suspect just arrested in las vegas will appear in court later this week. authorities will work on getting him extradited to the bay area where he can face charges with his codefendant. live here in oakland, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thanks very much. >> el dorado father and his daughter at the center of an amber alert died of carbon -- carbon monoxide poisoning. they discovered the body of the 49-year-old samaan and his 2-year-old daughter saturday near placerville. they were found inside the vehicle. but authorities are not confirming the cause of death. the father tells the paper he blamed the court system saying the son killed himself and the daughter following a bitter custody battle. a judge ruled vallejo special education teacher will stand trial on charges he raped a developmentally challenged teacher's aide. jerry johnson is accused of attacking the 18-year-old in school hours in february at the elementary school where

he taught. he said the he -- the victim has capacity of 7-year-old. photos taken at south park day show a police officer allowing children to handle weapons used by the city's swat team. one young boy is seen holding a fully automatic assault rifle and looking through the scope. another picture shows a boy around 5 grabbing a riot gun on a table beside the city's swat commander vehicle. one santa rosa city council member says the photos are alarming and children shouldn't be that close to the weapons. but the chief and event organizers argue the weapons were unload and seeing them helps the community better understand the mission and work of law enforcement. at least two zil liberties group are backing away from threat to sue bart over the decision to shut down cell phone service to prevent a protest. the aclu members met with the bart chief of police yesterday as hundreds of

protesters descend on several san francisco bart station, shutting them down. the demonstrators were angry that bart shut down the cell phone service at the civic center station to help prevent a planned protest last week. yesterday they managed to shut down four stations for several hours. police say it inconvenienced riders it was peaceful and no arrest was made. it's looking into the decision to shut off cell phone service. workers in san leandro will rebegin replacing stolen copper wire today so the city can turn some of the street lights back on. they stole 10,000 feet of underground wire more than a week ago. it carried power to street lights on macarthur boulevard. the city's public work director says the goal is to have the lights back on by friday. it will cost $16,000 to replace the wires and locks will be added to the vaults that hold them. officials say the stolen copper was probably sold as scram metal dealers and many netted only $1,000. newly released federal

documents show pg&e still can't find key papers related to last september deadly pipeline explosion in san bruno. national transportation safety board investigators have been hamper by a lack of information on the section of substandard pipe where the blast occurred at a flawed well. the "san francisco chronicle" reports that the investigators say pg&e relied on faulty or non-existent data to vouch for the safety of much of the rest of the milpitas to san francisco pipeline. investigators found pg&e doesn't know the thickness of the pipe's walls for 21 miles, who manufacturered most of the line or how deeply the pipe is buried. a 9-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident after left a giants game is at home in pennsylvania. he was hit by a pick-up truck on august 4. he was visiting his family. and had just left the giants and phillies game. he suffered a brain injury and fractured his pelvis,

left leg and ankle. his condition was upgraded from critical to serious. doctors say his condition improved enough to allow him to fly home on a specially equipped medical plane. san francisco and a leading national hotel chain are joining forces to launch a new program to attract tourists and give the city a much-needed economic boost. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news is live in san francisco. this targets what particular group of shoppers. >> reporter: we are talking about the incredibly lucrative chinese tourism market and this morning, hilton hotel officials with the san francisco mayor ed lee right there on stage with him announced that maybe the best way to get chinese tourists to san francisco is bring a little bit of china here first. >> they are debuting 13 hilton hotels worldwide. four in the bay area. two in san francisco, financial district and union square. one at the international airport and one at santa clara. >> one yeng. >> the program is aimed at

show you what it look like in santa cruz. still cloudy. give it another hour or so and you'll see sunshine there. other people already enjoying time out at the beach there. along the boardwalk. let's move on to talk about the clouds and look how they are pretty sticky along the coast. mainly out of just about all over neighborhoods. that is the case today. the coast will be hard to see sunshine. especially compared to yesterday. because of the half moon bay at 59. a lot of 60s around. look inland, fairfield, east bay valleys. san jose, los gatos. all in the mid-to-upper 70s. santa cruz, 57. with monterey. seeing sunshine, inland to gilroy. already 72 degrees there. talk about the highlights. three things i want you to know about the forecast. we have sunshine this afternoon. near normal high temperature. minimal changes through friday, cloud cover and temperature. more clouds and faster sea breeze and cooler conditions for our weekend. 24-hour temperature change. it's a little different. concord, san jose, one

degree cooler. oakland, san francisco, the same. one to two degrees warmer in fremont and santa rosa. 13 hours, 35 minutes and 26 seconds of sunshine before the sun sets this evening. livermore will be warmer. this is where the heat will stay in the east bay valley. oakland is one degree cooler than average. napa and redwood city, three to four. close to where we should be considering the summer we've almost had. 86 in dublin, upper 80s to low 90s for the rest of the east bay valley. 68 in rich monday, and 70s for the rest of the shore. head to south bay, low to mid-80s in san jose. 82 degrees. moving up the peninsula, we go from 80 in mountain view to 73 in millbrae. you can see the clouds at the coast, keeping half moon bay one of the warm spots and only 64 degrees. more sunshine and downtown. near 70 in saucelito. 79 in san rafael. look at the low to mid-#0s through the north bay. no sunshine. not as much as yesterday as the north bay beaches. only low 60s for you.

>> thank you, mike. all right. back to news now. governor brown now has to decide whether to put two key laws. the first would increase fine for talking or texting while driving for $50. first-time violators would pay $300 after the penalty and court costs and cyclists would be charged $40 for the first offense and $50 for the second offense. the second bill would allow landlords to ban smoking on properties including apartment and condos. the sponsor wants to give more families more smoke free options. democratic state senator says 86% of californians don't smoke. yet, smoke-free multi-family housing remains relatively rare. netflix is making it easier for parents to select the right movies for their kids. starting today, the los gatos based video rental company will add a just for kids tab. the feature will lead yuders to 1,000 television shows that children watch
