less than half an hour from now, president obama will award the medal of honor from the first marine recipient since the vietnam war. in september 2009 myer charged through heavy insurgent gunfire and saved the lives of 13 american troops and 23 afghan soldiers. myer says his moment was the worst day of his life. he lost four of his best friends that day. as he receives his honor his friends will be memorialized at hometown ceremonies. >> think about what happened and how i am going to carry on my life and honor those guys. i'm doing it for other people. once you that have instilled in you, it's not -- it gives you an extra edge.

degrees cooler than average for this time of the year. good morning. coming up on 11:19. stubborn clouds that caused the flight arrival delays as we look westbound from emeryville. let's head south, it's breaking out around san jose. that is good sign that inland valleys is starting to see sunshine. you can see that on visible satellite. east bay valleys, south bay clear. north bay valleys clearing right now. just bait and out to the coast is going to take several more hours. look at the temperatures, the winds -- gusting to 20 at sfo to 31 at fairfield. that is when you know you have a sea breeze blowing through the bay area and helping drop those temperatures down into the 50s around half moon bay, san francisco, novato and santa rosa. we'll have 50s everywhere else and 73 in antioch. clouds are very stubborn.

lower smoking rates. california and five other states have significant drops in lung cancer rates. they include nevada, washington, florida and oregon. but the decline in women is much more recent. and they are looking at government's new food guidelines. this the diagram, it looks similar to my plate. it represents a healthy diet built on grains, vegetables and fruit. but they have more detailed what to eat and not to eat. michelle obama helped my plate be introduced. harvard's plates substitutes whole grains and emphasizes healthy fats. first lady is olive garden and red lobster to serve healthy meals.
