>> fright to freedom happening now. two hikers many imprisoned in iran for over two here's have left iran after a secretive release this morning. >> reporter: right now the two americans convicted as spies in iran are on their way to oman. their return to the united states still a couple days away. they were released this morning. the u.s. has no diplomatic relations with iran they were releaseed to a diplomat in switzerland. sarah shourd released a statement saying we now all want nothing more than to wrap them in our arms, catch up on two lost years and make a new beginning for them and unfortunately us. after two years of uncertainty spent in an iranian prison the two are free. the legal procedure is over said their attorney. after paying a million dollars in what is being called bail, the men were flown to the

nation of oman, reportedly to rest for a couple of days before flying back home. >> we are hopeful, we obviously want to see them back on american soil. >> reporter: the two with sarah shourd were arrested in 2009 for spying when they allegedly trade into iran while hiking in iraq. shourd was released last year. the men were sentenced to eight years in prison. a former journalism professor says he's no spy. >> he would be the last person who would ever be a spy. just his demeanor, his way of being in the world. and so fourth. you know, it is hard to even -- imagine. >> reporter: we sampled reaction. >> i didn't believe the espionage charges. the charges of unlawful entry were justified. i'm a legal studies major that's my scholarly opinion. >> that was the right thing to do. i don't think two kids deserve

san francisco police are looking for the gunmen who opened fire and accidentally shot a 5-year-old girl walking home from school. >> reporter: police say the girl was shot in the knee. she is going to be okay. her shooting has police and residents saying something has to change. it is a busy intersection. an area the community has tried to revitalize with new shops and the rail line. the shooting of a 5-year-old girl has people wondering if the area will ever be safe. >> it is horrible. it is unfortunate. and this community is full of violence. >> reporter: the owner of the

dollar store says yesterday's victim is drawing attention because of her age. but every act of violence out here gets his attention. >> just a month ago a person got killed. a killing up on the hill yesterday. there's always shooting in the community. that's just another example that the city has not eradicated social blight. >> reporter: police believe two men were shooting at each other one of their bullets hit the 5-year-old girl who was walking home from school with her dad. they haven't made any addresses. but think they have good evidence to work with. >> what we do have is video surveillance captured. it was more than one surveillance. we are hoping our team can review those tapes and find the suspects and hopefully it will lead to possible arrests. >> reporter: police sometimes have trouble getting witnesses

apple expected to announce the iphone 5 on october 4th. the company's new ceo will hold a major media event on the next generation phone. no word on whether steve jobs who resigned as ceo in august, will be at that event.
