,inc santa clara county sheriff's deputies had an encounter with the man in this area shots were fired. the manhunt in sunnyvale for an alleged killer who preached none violence has ended with his death. i'm kristen sze. >> and i'm sheryl sherr. sharif all man was shot and killed in the same neighborhood where authorities launched a door-to-door yesterday morning. allman is accused of killing three people yesterday. terry mcsweeney joins us with more. a lot of unanswered questions about the case right now. >> reporter: there are. the search for sharif all man ended -- for shareef allman ended. according to the sheriff's

office, this ended 7:20 this morning when a deputy on routine patrol spotted him in a driveway. this is an area which yesterday was declared safe by law enforcement. a number of south bay police agencies are confirming the man shot to death by deputies is in fact 47-year-old sharif william all -- sharif all man. >> deputies had an encounter with the man in this area and shots were fired. the person that they encountered is dead. his physical description is very similar to the suspect we were seeking yesterday. >> reporter: there had been an intense manhunt for allman since he opened fire yesterday in the plant where he worked and had reportedly been angered by his move to the

night shift. he walked into a meeting and opened fire, killing three and wounding six. two hours later, he shot a woman after attempting a carjacking in a parking lot at homestead and tantau in sunnyvale. an all day door-to-door search turned up nothing. that second shooting took place about a half a mile from are allman was shot. >> it was like three shots in a row. i wasn't sure if it was gunshots. but it was seven pops in a row. >> reporter: some neighbors are angered their area was deemed safe when it wasn't. >> i heard there was k-9 units. how come you declare it safe and now it is killing me that he was here all night, so close by. >> reporter: hopefully we'll be getting answers to those unanswered questions at a news conference from the sheriff's office at 11:30 this morning, 25 minutes from now.

vic lee will be there. i'll have reports tonight at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00. chilling new information about wednesday's shooting at the quarry from one of the men who was shot and injured. the suspect allman arrived late for his 4 a.m. shift. he listened to a few minutes of a safety meeting then pulled out a handgun and started firing many ambrosia was hit in the arm and said he played dead until allman walked out of room. while allman may have been well liked he had a poor performance work -- record at work. he told him he would no longer rip -- represent him. you can get updates on this story all day by following us on twitter.

the death of a silicon valley icon. today apple fans continue to mourn the death of steve jobs. industry experts begin to consider what is next for appear tell and its rivals? amy hollyfield is live in palo alto. >> reporter: the thank you notes, flowers even the apples keep coming to this store this is the store that steve jobs would often pop into. he lives nearby. the mood is very somber here in palo alto. some even seem taken anback at how sad they feel. palo alto police shutdown the street in front of steve jobs' home. officers aren't allowing parking on the an jays block to help control the crowds stopping by to pay their respects. >> i never thought that his death would affect me this way. just really profound. like somebody really special, even bigger than life.

not to -- it is like an icon something really special is gone. >> reporter: at the downtown apple store in san francisco the windows are filling with post-it notes people leaving personal statements about how apple impacted their lives or a profound picture. in palo alto it is also personal. the only subtle sign that steve jobs lived here is the grove of apple trees in his frontyard this is where steve jobs was a neighbor, husband and father. >> our daughters went to the same school. i've seen him around town. brought the children here for halloween. they threw big halloweens. >> reporter: some in the tech industry question how apple will now have continued success? there is concern apple will struggle, without jobs. >> it is you have to question reinventing things each time. and jobs what the main reason that apple was able to do it.

protesters are back outside san francisco's federal building this morning after a confrontation with police in the middle of the night. the protest is in solidarity with occupied wall street calling for an end to the growing gap between rich and poor.
