closed captioning by closed captioning services,inc @ good morning i'm cheryl jennings. and i'm kristen sze. a rally set to begin at uc davis an hour from now. protesters will come from all over to express their outrage over campus police pepper spraying students last friday. katie marzullo is with the latest. huge fall-out. >> reporter: the chief of the uc davis police department has been put on administrative leave as one of the officers involved received an award in 2007 for saving a fellow officer from an attack. there are calls for the chancellor of the university to resign. little is left to interpretation.

a uc davis police officer captured on video moving down the line of seated protesters pepper spraying each in the face. when he runs out a second officer joins in. >> police officer said he would spray us, i had no idea that was coming until it was already in my face. >> it was horrible. what it shows is very appalling for all of us. really shows the face for the university that we don't have. >> reporter: students were part of an occupy protest and set up tents on campus. police ordered them to clear out by 3:00 friday afternoon. they brought out pepper spray at 3 30. >> it was not necessarily to disperse the students but to dismantle the equipment for the encampment. >> reporter: the police chief originally defended the officers saying the students ensure culled them and the students fell trap. >> it -- we were looking to leave. >> reporter: the chief was

placed on administrative leave this morning. for some, it is not enough. they want the chancellor to resign. students surrounded a campus building and held a silent protest as she left a news conference over the weekend. it doesn't sound like she has plans to leave for good. >> i feel confident at this point the university needs me. >> reporter: the chancellor has set thirty days for school investigators to issue their report. the president of the uc system plans to assess law enforcement procedures at all campuses. a website affiliated with the occupy movement is asking colleges across the country to hold candlelight vigils in solidarity with the student at 5:00 tonight. san francisco uc already signed on to do so. oakland officially unoccupied. occupy organizers calling for a general assembly to figure out their next move. police cleared out the last remaining encampment at snow

park after midnight. police ordered protesters to dismantle the remaining 12 or so tents, everyone did, no one realized. crews cleaned up the trash this morning. the raid came less than a day after police evicted protesters who set up in an empty lot at 19th and telegraph. four heroes rushed to pull a man from a burning car in san francisco and saved his life. the scene at 13th and followsome was frightening it -- >> reporter: one of the good samaritans burned his hand while trying to rescue the man. it is official that the people who helped out weren't thinking about their personal safety. san francisco police say there's no doubt the man who was unconscious inside this fire if some brave men hadn't pulled him to safety. one of his rescuers was sleep when he her the car crash. he was barefoot only wearing

belt on i got my knife and cut the seat belt and pulled him out >> reporter: those who watched were in awe. >> very heroic. i think it is risky. i've seen these fires before in cars and an explosion can happen any time and they stayed with him, which is incredible. >> i'm glad he's alive i don't feel like a row or anything. just glad a few of us were there to think fast and get him out of there. >> reporter: city crews are here working to replace the sign that was knocked down at folsom and 13th, the sign that ended up helping save the man. police say once the driver is medically cleared, they will be booking him on a charge of dui. they say at least he's alive amy hollyfield, abc7 news. in about two hours the man accused of killing a vallejo police officer is expected to make his first court appearance.

. in los angeles a large chunk of a street in san pedro collapsed into the pacific ocean after heavy rains this weekend. the landslide began during the summer, washed part of the cliff into the ocean yesterday. no injuries were reported. look at that, no structures threatened. the street has been closed since september. signs are up warning residents to stay away. engineers are working to determine what caused the initial landslide. quite a bit of rain over
