closed captioning by closed captioning services,inc good morning i'm eric thomas in for kristen sze. and i'm cheryl jennings. investigation are are trying to find the cause of a fire that killed a woman and her two dogs this morning. katie marzullo is there with more. >> reporter: this is a fairly unusual scene for a house fire. if you look behind us, there's very little flame damage to the outside of this house. it was about 7:00 this morning that the 911 call came in. crews arrived within minutes and found spoke pouring out. they went in, not see flames but used thermal imaging to make their way through the

smoke that is when they found the woman in a bedroom, again no flames, just smoke. she did not have a pulse. they tried to resuscitate her on scene she was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. two dogs also found inside they also died in the fire. the chief tells me that maybe preliminarily that the fire started in the kitchen. they do not know the cause, but they do know what was not the cause. >> there was no christmas tree, no christmas decorations. the obvious answer around the holiday see everyone thinks happening did not appear to be the cause. >> she was really nice it breaks your heart this happened after christmas. >> reporter: authorities are not releasing the identity of the woman only she appeared to be in her 40s. crews did find one smoke detector inside. they do not know if he was working. the crews that went inside did

not hear it going off. katie marzullo, abc7 news. >> oakland police are investigating four shootings that left one dead and two wounded. the latest shooting around 12:30 this morning on webster street. the victim is being treated. the fatal shooting occurred before midnight saturday three fired on a man in his car in the 800 block of d street. two shootings were reported early christmas morning. only one resulted in injuries. the victim was shot near the corner of fruitvale and east 27th street >> the fog is causing arriving flights to be delayed an hour and a half at san francisco airport. >> meteorologist frances dinglasan in the weather center. how long is that fog going to stick around? longer than we thought the last hour the cloud ceilings drop we normally see them

lift. here's a satellite image you see the contrast in black and white, a lot of clouds all over the bay area, around the bay. what is clear is monterey bay and parts of the interior valleys in the eastit is going d but should taper off in the next hour or so. here's the model showing cloud cover. by this afternoon we'll still see light clouds, low clouds around the peninsula and bay. mostly clear in the north bay, monterey bay. this evening the clouds return tonight making for a foggy start tomorrow morning. we could possibly see airport delays again into tuesday, big travel weekend, possibly some rain as well in your forecast. i'll have details coming up. this is mega monday for shoppers, the stores open early and offer steep post christmas discounts. amy hollyfield is in san francisco at union square. you have been reporting on this all morning. >> reporter: you know me i'm

getting into the stores here and there i am a little jealous of the purchases. it is not uncomfortably crowded it appears people slept in. this morning was a great time to get out. it is picking up. the hagger at macy's tells me there are more -- at the manager at macy's tells me there are more people here than last week. the day after christmas is now like the cousin of black friday. the sale signs come out and the stores open before the sun comes up. >> the deals are great. i will go here, target, then macy's. >> reporter: joanne was the first customer at kohl's in millbrae this morning when the store opened at 5:00 of an hour of shopping she spent $135 and saved $266. >> definitely worth getting up. they don't have a lot of everything so you have to kind of look. the finds were wonderful.

i was very happy. >> reporter: the day after christmas used to traditionally be the day of returns. at target shoppers focused on christmas supplies for next year. >> i have a couple of things -- [ inaudible ] >> today is about buying. >> reporter: the manager says 300 were lined up when he opened at 7:00 this morning. artificial trees sold out in 15 minutes. >> worth getting up this early because for next year you have all the wrapping, the ribbons and all that for next year that's why i come out. >> reporter: discounts after christmas are so deep they are changing the way some celebrate the hole day. one survey found 6% -- don't exchange gifts until january so they can get better deals. molly says that is the way to go. >> very minimal have a, awesome. >> reporter: she picked out high end shoes with her parents this morning at neiman marcus.

[ inaudible ] >> reporter: they were some pretty shoes let me tell you ladies! here's a shot in front of macy's you can see and decide whether you can handle these crowds. i don't think it is too bad. definitely nothing like black friday crowds. there are all kinds of predictions some saying it might be the third busiest shopping day of the year i don't know if that is going to come true. shopper track predicting the foot traffic today will be up 60% over this day last year. a lot of optimism. a lot of deals. if you can handle it, if you have shopping stamina left, it is probably worth your while to check these deals out. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. did you give gift cards this year? if say it may go unused.

41 billion dollars in gift cards have not been redeemed since 2005. most people forget about them. when people do use the gift card people often spend more than the value on the card. >> in london a one-day subway strike is not stopping shoppers. people are packing department stores for what is known as the traditional boxing day satisfies. shoppers are getting around seen though service has been suspended on several subway lines. drivers are demanding extra pay. in san jose, a 22-month-old boy suffered only bumps and bruises after police say his mother tossed him out of a second story window. he was crying as paramedics rushed him to valley medical center yesterday. his mom is in the same hospital with broken bones in both feet. she jumped as soon as police entered her apartment. family members say she was

taking medication for depression. they say she was going back to the hospital yesterday when she suddenly grabbed the boy and locked herself in the bathroom. that's what prompted them to call 911. a bay area man is recovering at the hospital after a six hour transplant operation on christmas day. >> one of several who received an organ from in man, charles butler, shot to death in his car last tuesday, he was on his way home from the store no arrest yet. he was about to start his first assignment as a merchant marine. daniel murphy underwent a successful surgery yesterday he is the recipient of butler's liver. his wife say the experience has been surreal and she is very greatful to butler and his family. with a week to go until the iowa caucuses the candidates are headed back to the campaign trail. tomorrow newt gingrich will campaign in dubuque and several other cities. mitt romney will concentrate on davenport and ron paul will

meade johnson says tests show it contains no trace of infamil linked to the death of a missouri baby. tests found the 10 day old died on december 18th, of a rare infection.

the source of the bacteria has not been determined but can be found in powdered formula. national retailers, including wal-mart pulled their formulas from the shelf as a precaution. cyber criminals claim they've cracked computer codes and stolen credit card information from top secret clients of a global security. they claim they are donating the money to charity. the crooks say this is the first step in a master plan. >> reporter: the hacking movement anonymous are at it again. this time, claiming to have obtained thousands of credit card numbers and personal information from clients of security think tank, a leading provider of litary, economic and political analysis for clients from apple to the u.s. airforce in total, up to one million dollars was reportedly stolen. not so private and secret any more anonymous taunted on a

the day after christmas is the first day of kwanzaa the holiday celebrated by an estimated 18 million african-americans. kwanzaa runs through january 1st. it is not a religious holiday and not meant to replace christmas more of a social holiday to celebrate the values of ancient african cultures each day honors a principle starting with unity today ending with faith. for one family it is a girl and it has been a long time coming. the family had been expecting a boy they had first baby girl

crowds but the family focus was on prince philip. the palace said he had another good night after emergency heart surgery friday. the queen's christmas message recorded before her husband's health scare took on special meaning. >> the importance of family have come home to prince philip and me personally this year with the marriages of two of our grandchildren. >> reporter: i was kate's first christmas as a royal hundreds lined up to catch a glimpse of her and rest of the family. after a traditional christmas launch, she stayed while william, harry and the other grandchildren made the trek to the hospital. the keen may be the head of state but princelip -- runs the home he has headed every christmas celebration for decades. >> too often i fear philip has been listened to me speaking he has been my strength and
