closed captioning by closed captioning services,inc good morning i'm eric thomas in for kristen sze. and i'm cheryl jennings. a teenaged hockey fan suffers a concussion said she was hit by a sharks' fan. she already survived a brain tumor, now a second brain trauma. terry mcsweeney joins us with the story. >> reporter: 16-year-old maggie is sleeping in this morning. i spoke to her mom, one of the worst weeks of her life and it should have been one of the best. she and her sister came to watch the sharks against her beloved canucks, she is from canada.

everything went wrong. she is on the left, her sister on the right. maggie met members of the canucks four years ago when she visited her following surgery from a brain tumor. wednesday night there was a row of sharks fan behind her one fan in particular who they described as her mother as out of line. >> people she was with were swearing at the girls, yelling on ties at them. when the -- yelling on tees at them. >> the lady brought both hands down on the back of maggie's head. >> reporter: the woman says it was an the girls say the woman was fall down drunk. maggie was taken from hp pavillion in an ambulance not before another sharks fan taunted her saying she was faking it.

all of this a few weeks after a new procedure at ucsf injection into the base of her skull ended her daily headaches related to her cancer treatments. >> this was the first month she was pain-free. >> reporter: and now? >> and now she's got her headaches back. >> reporter: the sharks released this statement, the person who made contact with the injured fan stated the contact was accidental during the celebration of a goal. talked to a police department spokesman this morning he says the case investigation but no detectives have been assigned because there has been no arrest yet. maggie's mom says sharks fans in general were very nice and cooperative after the incident and they made sure maggie was feeling as good as possible. about two weeks ago, maggie's father was laid off from his job in fairfield. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news.

two san francisco police officers are money the four people injured when a muni light rail vehicle rammed a police car in san francisco this morning. the accident happened before 6 a.m. at the intersection of third and 22nd streets. the train was headed north at what investigators are calling a moderate rate of speed. two police officers, female muni passenger and the train's driver were taken to the hospital with what are being called minor to moderate injuries. the cause of the collision is still under investigation. the second accident happened after 9 a.m. at third and king street in front of at&t park mooney train collided with a car. no one -- muni train collided with a car. no one was hurt. the passengers refuted treatment. investigators say it is too early to say who was at fault. both direction crashes have

23-year-old charles butler, jr. was shot. his vital organs saved thekb@&h butler completed a merchant marine program and was ready police are still searching for his killer. this afternoon the san jose mother accused of dropping her son out of a second story window on christmas is scheduled to appear in court after having her date continued yesterday. the 24-year-old has been charged with child abuse and child endangerment. she will not face attempted murder charges. she is accused of dropping her 22 month operated son from a second story -- 22, -- 20 two month operated son from a second story window. for the second year a redwood city girl has accomplished many grownups would consider too difficult to try she has collected hundreds of coats for the homeless. >> reporter: the coats filled

up the bed of a pick-up truck, nearly 600 all going to st. anthony san francisco. this large donation is not from a corporation or wealthy philanthropist but from an 11-year-old who within wad to help fill a need. >> it -- who wanted to help fill a need. >> it feels good. >> reporter: she was watching extreme makeover home edition and decided she want today to help people in need. she thought of how cold the homeless must be in san francisco. >> i've seen a lot of homeless in san francisco who need a lot. coats keep people warm. >> reporter: her dad is a manager at a cvs and suggested bins in front of stores. >> she sent out a letter and everybody got onboard. who could say no to her, she is adore ache and has a great hard heart. >> reporter: last year she collected 500 coats.

the number of death penalty sentences drastically down in california 10 were sentenced to death this year compared to 29 in the previous two years one of the lowest levels since california reinstated capital punishment in 1978. observers say prosecutors may be seeking out more life sentences in light of the long appeals process and the six year moratorium imposed on executions. a dramatic rescue that millions watched live on television. brave los angeles firefighters came to the rescue of a yuck man and his dog yesterday. -- rescue of a young man and

his dog yesterday. >> reporter: ivan and his brother, his dog and dad were invying a cliffside hike in los angeles, until dad decided to chuck a bottle over the edge. >> once he threw the bottle, the dog went after it. >> reporter: it could have been the deadliest fetch ii -- the whole thing turned into a two hour family drama starting with low last one-year-old german shepard mix who went after the and tumbled halfway down ivan, 19 tried to fetch lola, he got stuck too. 35 firefighters and a helicopter sort of came to the rescue. >> when the helicopter came i thought i was going to die because the dog was getting nervous, shaking a lot and then like i was sliding down as well. >> large plume of dust and rocks. >> reporter: the rescue team

next month airlines will not be able to bure decision al fees and taxes in the fine -- fineprint new regulations require airlines to include all mandatory taxes and fees in the advertised fares. until now the department has allowed airlines and agencies to lift government imposed fees separately those can add 20% or more to a ticket's price. the rule goes into effect january 26th. southwest, spirit have filed appeals to have the rule overturn arguing it violates commercial free speech rights.

a lot of this is low level hard to pick up on our radar. as we widen the view most of the activity sliding east into the sacramento valley. any snow out of this one? no. highest elevations maybe light rain, wind that's about it. we are looking at next week for another weather system as this system pushes through, high pressure quickly is going to build in behind it going to bring a drier air mass, milder conditions because this system still just sliding east keeping the storm track well to the north and it is going to take again a series of systems to get us back into a more favorable regime for wet weather come the -- come the middle of next week between now and the middle of next week we are dry again. there's the front it pushes southward and falls apart 2, 3:00, if you at work or heading home, san francisco, later on this afternoon you
