county. it had been closes more than three hours. terrible day for drivers unless you happened to be a tow truck driver. it was one vehicle after another. all smashed all lining highway 37. was chain reaction of approximately 10 different vehicle collisions from a motorcyclist to several cars. >> reporter: drivers tell me it was the fog that led to the pile-ups. >> i was able to stop six feet from the guy in front of me. the woman in front of me, behind me was able to stop, the woman behind her she came smashing in that bumped her up into me i was able to liftoff my foot abú8j- little and it ket going back and forward there must have been 100 cars out here. >> reporter: fog was a contributing factor drivers following too close was the

under bart tracks outside of hayward somebody discover thed the body this morning. the -- the man was not mit by a train because the tracks were inactive -- were inactive. hampton road is closed for an indefinite period. san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi is in family court how hoping to win permission to see his son something he hasn't been able to do since he was charged with domestic abuse. amy, has the judge made a decision? >> reporter: the decision just came down that ross mirkarimi will be allowed to see his son. with we don't know whether it will be supervised visits or how often we are waiting for the sheriff to come out to tell us what happen. before the decision i spoke with his wife eliana lopez she said her fingers were crossed the judge was going to allow mirkarimi to see their son. they are both here. they arrived separately the stay away order says he can't see his son or his wife who he

is accused of bruising during an argument on new year's eve. in cord today the couple was ordered to go to -- in court today the couple was ordered to go to a mediation session that was closed door. it does appear they both wanted the stay away order lifted. they even submitted a statement from theo's daycare provide said theo is struggling and he has been withdrawn since the order has been in place and he cries for his dad. the judge made it clear to the courtroom about the importance of his decision. and how seriously he takes them, telling everyone that was appearing in family court today not just ross mirkarimi that it is important to have a safe environment for children even infants can be traumatized by violence. he wanted the couple to go into mediation and come up with a solution that they both agreed with and he would decide whether he would enforce it, whether he liked

are peppered with weak welds. two weldersade the accusations this week. both said the tests and repairs conducted last year by pg&e were flawed citing shoddy work manship. the utility is testing hundreds of miles of pipeline in response to the explosion in san bruno. one welder said the quality of welds from pipes installed 60 years ago were truly terrible. another accusation of teacher misconduct at the los angeles elementary school rocked by two other sex abuse claims in the last two weeks. the mother of a fourth grader at miramonte elementary says a female teachers aide sent three letters to her 11-year-old son in 2009 in one it said the boy gave her chills. the mother met with school officials and the aide acknowledged writing the letters. the aide no longer works for

east bay valleys some may spill into the bay like it did this morning for the most part the same as far as temperatures low to mid 40s. area split by high pressure the next system heading north but we are getting large swells that could be up to 18 foot right now mainly 13 to 14 feet everybody along the coast under that high surf advisory until 3:00. today and tomorrow some of the warmer days we could touch 70 in a few areas away from the coast mid 60s low to mid 60s friday through tuesday. last models putting sprinkles into the forecast friday evening with that better chance of measurable rain sunday night into monday. we'll keep an eye out on friday for you. parents we have new help if you are feeling like you can't keep up with the acronyms your kids use.
