the judge deciding whether to allow an ex-girlfriend to testify in sheriff mirkarimi case trial. you have the timeline? >> reporter: yeah we have some on that. right now we are waiting for the judge to make a decision about that ex-girlfriend whether she will testify at his trial which begins next week. she would provide possibly damning testimony against mirkarimi. saying he has a history of abuse of women. take a look at the woman

christina flores former tv host here in the bay area. she says she was abused by mirkarimi while they dated in 2008, shoved against a wall she says shortly before mirkarimi methylian that lopez who he later mary. flores' testimony would not bring new charges but could show a pattern of abuse. she has publicly called him a pit bull and bully. now look at pictures of lopez this is from the video of lopez taken bay a neighbor at lopez's request -- showing breezing. on it you can hear lopez telling the story of the alleged abuse grabbing her arm so hard she says he bruised her. lopez says this is much to do about not much and she says she will not testify. the video of the bruises and her statement that night shortly after the alleged attack are going to be admitted into evidence. the d.a. spokeswoman is telling me that 185 vetted prospective jurors are going to be back here monday.

they hope to have a jury seated by monday afternoon or tuesday morning at the latest. 12 jurors and between two and four alternates. opening statements tuesday afternoon or wednesday morning. and then the trial will get underway. it is expected to last 2 1/2 weeks. vic lee is in the courthouse now waiting for the judge's ruling he will have that at 4:00, 5 and 6:00. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. a 54-year-old woman is in the hospital after being slashed in the face with a meat cleaver. police say she got into an argument with a man at a south market hotel thursday evening. the man tacked the woman with the cleaver striking her -- the man attacked the woman with the cleaver striking her several times. the woman is expected to survive. skier who died in an avalanche near lake tahoe has been identified as a squaw valley man, 29-year-old benjamin bracket died last

night hours after he was rescued he was swept nearly 300 feet down mill by an avalanche and then against a tree. bracket and two friends were sking in an out of bounds area yesterday when the avalanche hit. the three men were climbing up a hill when the snow came loose. two other skiers were not seriously injured. tornadoes unleashed a new wave of destruct today this time alabama was hit hard this is huntsville where several homes have been flattened and people taken to hospitals with injuries. maximum security prison was hit no prisoners escaped. this comes two days after another system killed 13. t.j. winick reports. >> reporter: eyes are toward the skies from the ohio valley into the deep south. more storms and tornadoes are expected after 13 across seven states have already lost their lives to a total of 33 confirmed twisters. the new threat is the result of twotrons colliding, cold

students of chardon high returned. three were killed, two wounded when a fellow fire in the cafeteria monday the school reopening comes one charges were filed against the 17-year-old suspect who attended a nearby alternative school. the motive is still unclear. police say he may have known at least one of the victims. six federal and state agencies announced a final plan for spending more than 32 million dollars to pay for environmental damage caused by the cosco busan oil spill. an oil tanker ran into a bay bridge tower in 2007. the money will be used to improve recreational uses of the bay and beaches, restore bird and fish life and improve habitat. the money comes from a settlement between the agencies and the hong kong-based owner of the ship. san francisco-based online review site yelp is exceeding expectations.

yelp stock was originally priced at $15 per share before the company started trading publicly this morning. since trading began shares have rocketed to as high as $45. values the company at nearly 1 1/2 billion dollars that price has come back down to $20 four a share. even so not bad for a firm that has yet to turn a profit. nasa serious security lapses. the space agency's#p@añ inspectr general told a committee somebody stole a laptop last year containing unencrypted codes that control the international space station. in another incident, hackers who appear to be based in china, managed to get into computers at the jet propulsion lab in southern california and go full access to their systems as well as user accounts. if you thought awkward tweets you send vanished, think again. two research companies have

people who recycle plastic bottles and cans will be getting more money for dealing them. state officials have raised the rates paid at recycling centers. the rate for bottles going up seven cents. aluminum cans up three cents. the state made the changes after deciding that con saoufplers and companies weren't getting a big enough slice of the pie from the redemption value program. we've been hearing from excited skiers about all the snow in tahoe. now you are saying a lot could be melting this weekend. >> yeah, five feet so it will be tough to melt a little bit will melt, yeah especially when we get near 60 at lake level possibly sunday.
