closed captioning by closed captioning services,inc good morning i'm cheryl jennings. and i'm kristen sze. a tragic shooting in sunnyvale involving a mother and her son. >> police say the mother killed her autistic son and then turned the gun on herself. terry have you heard whether there were any warning signs of trouble? >> reporter: i talked to neighbor, police nobody had any idea that what happened was going to be coming. they are saying the mother who had taken care of this 22-year-old man all his life and she was going to be spending the ref of her life taking care of him, last night, -- for some reason snapped. >> i'm shocked and stunned. >> reporter: heather lives

next door to where shootings took place. she identifies her neighbors as lester and elizabeth and their 22-year-old son george. she never saw or heard any heufrpbt of trouble between the mother and son. >> child was mildly ing autistic. other than that he seemed like a normal family, warm, friendly, great neighbors. >> reporter: police say the first they heard of trouble came 7:30 last night when the husband came home to find the two in a bedroom, dead. >> it appears the mother shot the 22-year-old son. and then shot herself. >> reporter: police say the son had a serious medical condition that required round the clock care. the husband worked, the wife stayed home to care for the son. >> probably some sort of family stressor only she would the husband said there's been ongoing medical issues with the son. >> reporter: this violence is a shocker for neighbors and police in the city of 140,000.

sun very nil is one of the safest cities -- sunnyvale is one of the safest cities of its size in the nation. as you hear -- >> don't expect at this time to happen in your neighborhood but it can happen anywhere. >> reporter: another victim of this, the woman's husband, the boy's father who wakes up for the first time in at least 22 years, alone. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. police have arrested tee teenagers, they are gang members, in the attack of a san jose man and death his dog. they've been charged with assault and robbery. the terrier named shadow died after being stomped on and kicked. his owner was wearing red when the teens asked if he was in a gang, he said no but the teens attacked him and shadow any way. concord police released photos of two gunmen who robbed a convenience store and pistol-whipped the clerk.

the thieves end the store before 7:30 last night in the 1300 block of monument boulevard. they took cash and robbed a curve her purse. both are described as thin in their 20s. please call the concord police department if you recognize these men. driver facing charges for hitting a 9-year-old boy leaving a giants' game is expected to plead guilty this morning. the district attorney's office won't release details but say he will enter a guilty plea to driving under the influence. police say ryan white was with his family walking in a crosswalk when he was hit. white was seriously hurt, but survived. new pool of 100 prospective jurors expected to be questioned today in the domestic violence case against sheriff ross mirkarimi. the judge ordered the expanded pool to make up for those dismissed for received bias or
