i'm cheryl jennings. >> i'm kristen sze. >> hazardous materials are continuing their investigation at downtown san jose post office on north first street after evacuation prompted by an unexpected substance. >> about six employees are were preparing morning deliveries inside the main post office behind me when three of them started getting sick. they developed sore throat. all of this happened just before 8:24 morning. now, the emergency was caused by when a greenish powder leaked from inside a box through the seam. they responded the hazardous material unity thelt hosed down

weren't able to get inside to make the deliveries. downtown streets are back open but they were blocked off for several hours this morning and the fire department and hazardous materials unit blocked the scene but the delivery instruction trucks are still in place. we're live in downtown san jose. >> hundreds of volunteers showed up to help search for a missing 15-year-old morgan hill girl. sierra lamar disappeared about a week and a half ago on march 16th. terry mcsweeney is near the reservoir in apartment is clare. >> we are told that we're close to 400 volunteers signed up to search for sierra lamar. you can see some of them behind me. its daunting task, so much open space in santa clara county and she could be anywhere and you are not sure she is here.

it attracted national attention because it would have kept young children from watching it. it shows school bullying and several families that were affected by it. it was started by a 17-year-old girl who was the victim of bullying. her online petition drew nearly 500,000 signatures. >> how big can you dream? that is the question today as mega millions mania grips america with the third largest jackpot, $363 million. amy hollyfield is live in san francisco at mark and castro. they are selling like hot cakes but you know they are. >> it's crazy out here kristen. they are going to sell 4,000 to 5,000 section compared to 1,000 when it's a typical jackpot. it's safe to say the mega millions fever has hit the bay

team of volunteers rescued a whale that was caught in a fishing net. it was an amazing feat of patience. they spent nearly 24 hours working to free that whale. finally it broke loose and made a deep dive but within minutes, the whale surfaced and swam over to its rescuers as though to say thank you. then it took off. >> that is great and how to prevent that also is an issue. >> probably not too many people fishing out there. >> it's pretty rough out there. 40 miles an hour, 20-30 for us. let's take a look at show you. let's go to the sierra and how winter storm warning doesn't start until 5:00. so now is great time before the snow level drops down to 6,000 feet and overnight hours. back here at home, go to the

north, sutro tower, harder to see the mountains because of the rain. it continues to fall on live doppler 7-hd. most of the rain north of 80 but pretty much on schedule. noon to 1:00 time frame. that is when the steady rain moves in with the cold front and that is what we're seeing here happen. let's talk about temperatures if you are heading out. low to mid-50s in the north bay. mid to upper 50s for the rest of us. monterey bay, a little more sunshine and low 50s around watsonville and mid to upper 50s for santa cruz and gilroy. highlights, rain spreading south and breezy today. this evening and tomorrow morning's commute that will the worst ones to get around because of wet weather. scattered showers in the afternoon and another chance of rain on saturday. upper 50s along the north bay and out to the coast. low to mid 60s for the bay, south bay and into east bay valleys. more sunshine and warmer weather

around the monterey bay. low to mid-50s as you head inland. you will get the bulk of your rain in the latter parts of afternoon especially in the evening and overnight hours. heading up to the north, run into the rain, 55 in chico. heading south, increasing south, 82 in palm springs. mid-60s in san diego. you see the rain still coming down, not quite as untense but it is still there with upper 40s to low 50s. very mild during the overnight hours. here is what is happening. cold front coming through the first rains with the warm front. steadier rains with the cold front and last batch of rain that is going to kick all this through tomorrow morning into the afternoon hours. here is how it plays out. steady rain developing along the front into the north bay during lunchtime hours, at noon, as we head towards 5:00, east bay and south bay, steady rain over about 8:00. light rain moves in around midnight and hangs around

tomorrow morning, and we could have heavier rain right in the heart of commute. by noon, light rain becoming more showery in nation and by 5:00 or 6:00, it's gone. clouds will hang around during the overnight hours. take a look at revised rainfall totals. i revised them up to the east bay hills. inch and quarter for you. santa clara, quarter to half an inch. north bay, one to three inches. look at the mountains, two zaf to five inches and possibly three feet of snow from 7,000 feet up in the sierra from 5:00 to 24 hours to 5:00 tomorrow. here is a look at accu-weather seven-day forecast, temperatures mainly in the 60s and another chance of rain on saturday. >> cheryl: new report out, volunteers picked up nearly 9 million pounds of trash during the coastal cleanup campaign. this is cleanup from last year. nearly 600,000 volunteers

worldwide helped out. the top five types of trash, cigarettes, plastic bottles and bags and food containers. they have held the event for the past 26 years. >> starbucks says they are trying to remove away from artificial dye, explaining why one of drinks has ground up insects. the bug has been used in mexico and south america has a coloring a little for centuries. the federal government considers it's safe. the world health organization that it can cause asthma or an allergic reaction and some say the drink is no longer vegan. >> extra protein there. >> we'll be right back.
