work is critical to the family. volunteers look for anything that will help bring 15-year-old sierra lamar home. >> we don't want anyone to get stuck. it doesn't impact the ground search. what it is going to impact is the number of volunteerss >> reporter: the one or so who turned out are looking for anything to bring sierra home or closure to her family. >> i'm sure the family knowing it is cold, raining, is she laying out there somewhere still alive, is she suffering? >> reporter: pat boyd knows about closure his 28-year-old daughter kristi vanish in october of 2005. her kidnapper and killer is serving time for the crime based on dna. but her body, even the remains still hold incredible importance to the family. >> any time a body part, skeleton anything that has been found my wife's emotions

city's population, elderly chinese-americans cheated out of their valuables. amy hollyfield is live with details. >> reporter: two scams going on. in the first, two people walk up to a victim and start talking about going to see an her balance doctor. they convince the -- see an herbal doctor. they convince the victim, i know where we can find one. then a third person joins the conversation. >> suspect three says i'm the herbal doctor's daughter or granddaughter and you just stepped over a where a person was killed and the ghost is attached to you. you are curse and you are going to die. your family is going to die too unless you purify your valuables. >> reporter: the victims have all gone home, gathered their valuables and hand them over to the thieves. >> they give the bag back and tells them don't look in it otherwise the ritual not going to work. the woman opens the bag and

finds all her valuables are gone. >> reporter: police say this happen four times to people raging in age from 60s to 80s. they have sketches of what they think three of the four suspects like like. investigators estimate they've walked away with at least $100,000 worth of jewelry. in the other scheme police say the criminals convince the victims that this jade bracelet will bring good health, luck and wealth. three victims have paid between two and $15,000 cash for the jewelry. >> these victims are spending a lot on bracelets that are worth $10. >> reporter: police say thieves speak to the victims in cantonese and approach while they are walking alone. >> what is being preyed upon are the people's superstition. in the chinese culture, superstition, we believe in ghosts, ancestors, things like that. the people -- the suspects know what the victims are

in a few hours the man accused of killing five people inside a san francisco home set to face a judge. the d.a.'s office filed murder charges again 35-year-old binh thai luc yesterday. police arrested him sunday at his apartment the charges include special circumstances making luc eligible for the death penalty. the d.a. says he doesn't decide to seek it. oakland police searching for two young men on bikes responsible for a series of downtown robberies at least four robberies in the past eight days, one along the 2000 block of telegraph avenue another in the 900 block of clay street the most recent friday happened in the 600 block of 9th street and 900 block of oak street the time varies from 9 at night to 1 in the morning. police are reminding people to be cautious and aware of surroundings. a few more showers pop up today. meteorologist mike nicco is
