closed captioning by closed captioning services,inc breaking news out of the east bay federal agents raiding a medical marijuana school and dispensary. >> those raids are drawing a number of protesters. katie marzullo is at the scene of one of those raids. >> reporter: this is the university at 1600 broadway students take a 13 week course on the business of marijuana. right now federal agents are inside. protest are outside you can hear them screaming for the agents to leave they don't want them on their turf. at this point we don't know why the agents are here. the size and volume of the protests varied. their support of marijuana stayed strong.

chris is a graduate of the university. >> you can take too much aspirin and die. you can drink too much water and die. you can't die from too much marijuana. >> reporter: u.s. marshals stood their ground while the agents went about their work. coming and going and carrying in empty cardboard boxes. >> it is irs criminal investigation, dea and the u.s. marshals. >> we are doing enforcement here today. what we are doing is under seal, so at this point i'm not able to comment. >> reporter: whatever it is, people in favor of legalized marijuana at the federal level say the raid is wrong. >> the dea now has decided that they can do this. they are trying to challenge us and it is not going to work we we are never going to stop. it is never going to end. >> reporter: a graduate told me there is never any marijuana smoked in the

university. i asked if he thought there was something going on with the university finances,zrñ7 se the irs is here? he asked me to defer to the university president. [ inaudible ] my calls have gone unreturned. katie marzullo, abc7 news. a little background about the university. it opened in november 2007. it claims to be the first cannibus college in the university. the trade school provides classes on growing marijuana as well as marijuana laws and sales. it wasn't the only target of a raid this morning agents raided nearby pot dispensary hauling out marijuana and computers. mark matthews there live. >> reporter: we are on 15th between franklin and bring early they are morning after 9:00, agents of the dea and local cops raided this office here at the oakland cannibus

buyer's club. they served search warrants, but no arrests have been made. we have pictures of them carrying out boxes of what we believe to be medical marijuana. very sketchy information out of the dea. the spokesperson for the dea could not tell me who owns this. we believe it to be richard lee the same person who is running the university around the corner. we are told as i said no arrests have been made this is and forcement operation where search warrants are -- enforcement operation, search warrants are being served. it is not just the university and the oakland cannibus buyer's club that are being raided other raids are going on in oakland the dea would not say where or how many just this is an enforcement action in oakland and these are not

the only two places being raided this morning. mark matthews, abc7 news. in san francisco protesters still involved in the take over of a vacant building owned by catholic church. they've been there all night. sue thompson joins us from that scene. >> reporter: good morning. police are continuing to monitor this building owned by the archdiocese of san francisco. a few minutes ago i spoke with leaders of the archdiocese. they say they did tell the police that these protestsers -- protesters are in factthey wd like them to leave. occupy san francisco stated they would like to turn this vacant buildedding owned by the archdiocese into -- building owned by the archdiocese into a community center to help those in need. this occupies happened yesterday following a -- this occupation happened yesterday following a rally and march.

many wound upcoming to this building where they spent the knife -- spent the night. they say they don't plan to leave until they can sit down and meet with the diocese on how they can turn night a community center this is a private building. police did get word from the diocese to ask people to begin leaving. so that an that is not happening. the archdiocese did tell me this vacant building is used to lease. they lease it out and use the money to help students at sacred heart prep who can't afford it. me 200 people spent the night here last night. and the occupy movement says right now it has no plans to leave. >> what we want to do is put the building back to use to offer community services. we have plenty of people that can offer health services, food, education. >> we have a citizen's an the

archdiocese saying they are trespassing. we closed that side of the street because we have information things are going to be thrown down to people walking past so just a public safety thing. >> reporter: the archdiocese saying that the occupiers in their vacant private building that they own are trespassing, they would like them to leave. they've told san francisco police that and that message has been relayed. so far occupiers do not seem to be going anywhere. the diocese says they would like to see this peacefully resolved. sue thompson, abc7 news. a mother and four children on the peninsular homeless thisp2ñ morning after a fire destroyed their home this is video of the fire that broke out around 4 a.m. in west san mateo. firefighters managed to knock down the flames and get all five to safety. unfortunately, the two cats in the home were killed. a neighbor watched it happen. >> so scary.

for the day. volunteers and investigators combed a 20 mile radius around her morgan hill home. the next scheduled volunteer search for sierra is set for saturday. san jose police investigating a shooting involving one of their own officers at richard's bar last night. reports the suspect opened fire inside the bar following a fight. then shot at officers when they arrived. one officer returned fire. police say the suspect is 38-year-old gabriel lorenzo who surrendered to police. nobody was hit by gunfire. san rafael police sealed off an area around north san pedro road and golf avenues searching for a burglary suspect. police are releasing few details they will only say that officers were involved in a foot pursuit for someone with a gun. more information on this story, as the information becomes available. embattled san francisco

sheriff ross mirkarimi won a small legal victory today. he can move back into his family home temporarily while his wife and their son are out of the country. they are visiting her ailing father in venezuela who is suffering from cancer. mirkarimi was realized january 13th, on charges related to domestic violence. he hasn't been home since. he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment. he has been staying with friends, including former mayor agnos. lopez is supposed to return the end of april. new less expensive high speed rail project is being unveiled in fresno the price tag is 68 billion dollars, 30 billion less than a first draft release last fall. the updated plan relies on improving existing lines instead of building new ones to cut costs. the first full section of track will stretch to the san fernando valley in 2022 significant expansion from the original concept that linked

here. this is in the 78th -- 7 -- 7800 block of edgewood drive. police are saying there was some sort of shooting the area three wounded. it appears at least one is dead. there may be others in the building. the shooter may also be inside this is an active scene now. police are right there pulling people out of the building. we will stay on top of this and bring more information as it becomes available. we have more breaking news out of san francisco the 9th circuit court of appeals has upheld california's ban on affirmative action and public college admissions. the court ruled proposition 209 does not violate students' constitutional rights. the latest to uphold the ban in a long list of legal challenges since it was passed in 1996. reaction later this afternoon on abc7 news.
