parking lot. they are here for the first class taught since six nursing students and a receptionist were shot and killed. >> i'm still dealing with the emotion. >> reporter: he is the teacher he will let students dictate how things will go. >> it is going to be hard to go in the classroom. i don't know, i think we'll talk about it a little bit. we'll try to move on and see how it goes. >> reporter: a large memorial at the front door serves as a reminder of the tragedy. flowers, teddy bears, handwritten messages from all over the country. garcia was inside on the day of the shooting. he hopes his return will inspwaoeur others. >> i thought it was important that i come back.

>> reporter: mr. garcia says he knows students have been meeting and supporting each other over the last couple of weeks. he has talked with them as well but he wasn't sure how many would show up for class today. the president of the university is here, he did not want to make a comment this morning. he said he would address the media tomorrow. katie marzullo, abc7 news. amy hollyfield is live at fremont unitech college where classes for nursing students were expected to take place. >> reporter: that was the word and the welcome mat is out. turns out, it is not that easy. administrators here say they are more than willing to accept the oikos nursing students. it turns out the nursing board and the state have to approve the move. those officials will have to come out and make sure this is the appropriate environment for the nursing students.

there is some bureaucracy involved. unitech says it is willing to go through the process. >> at this point, we want to help. we're not sure what the future of oikos is, as a school. and the students i'm sure need to feel that there is another place for them to go in case the school shuts didn't. >> reporter: officials say they e-mailed the board and state this morning they are hoping to hear back by the end of the day. they say they possibly could get students in by the end of the week. no oikos students showed up today, so it appears word did reach them. their classes at this point, still in limbo. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. the gunman 43-year-old one goh has been charged with killing six former classmates and a receptionist.

he said he was angry at school officials for refusing to refund his tuition. oikos university has set up a memorial fund for the victims and their families we have a link it to on abc7news.com under see it on tv. antioch police just announced the arrest of five people in connection with the death of an innocent victim at a bar. three men are in custody with two 17-year-old teenagers. the shooting happened march 31st. the victim was not involved in the fight that led to the shooting. all five suspects have gang connections. the search continues for the woman who tried to rob a convenience store at gunpoint in oakland. the crime was stopped by a delivery truck driver. the driver saw what was going on inside the store before 10

last night the woman was pointing a gun at the clerk and made threats to shoot him if he didn't hand obvious the money. the truck driver grabbed the woman and struggled for the gun. >> an employee in fear of safety of his fellow co-workers was able to wrestle the gun away from the suspect. the suspect then fled on foot, without loss or anybody getting hurt. >> we checked with the store manager this morning he's expected to release surveillance video to the police and has been told to not talk about the investigation right now. a few hours from now suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi will have his first hearing before the ethics commission. oral arguments are not expected for several weeks. mayor lee suspended mirkarimi for official misconduct after mirkarimi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in a domestic violence case

involving his wife. friday a judge rejected mirkarimi's request to overturn his suspension. the ethics commission will make a recommendation to the board of supervisors who will decide whether mirkarimi should be removed from office. uc berkeley police may decide today what to do with protesters who have taken over a piece of uc land in albany. officers have told the protesters they are subject to arrest and declared that tract a crime scene. protesters say they want to stop uc from selling the lot and are planting crops on the land to make their point. in north carolina witness testimony in t criminal trial of john edwards is expected to begin within half an hour. his former aide andrew young is expected to testify first star prosecution witness. this is video of edwards arriving in court this morning. prosecutors claimed he used

donations from his 2008 campaign to cover-up an affair with his mistress who became pregnant with his now 4-year-old daughter. if convicted he could face up to 30 years in prison. another high profile trial underway now in chicago. within the last few minutes oscar winner jennifer hudson took the stand in the trial of the man accused of killing her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew in october 2008. prosecutors claim he became angry when hudson's sister, hises strapblged wife started dating someone else. >> the florida man charged with the shooting death of trayvon martin is in a secret location after being released from jail overnight. george zimmerman posted $150,000 bail. he's allowed to leave the state, but must wear a tracking ankle bracelet and has a curfew.

western pennsylvania as well as new york state can expect more than a foot of snow by the day's end. the blast is no big deal say locals. >> that's part of living in pittsburgh. we are not in florida, we are in western pennsylvania. >> i put it down to the tempestuous nature of spring. >> reporter: it is not just the northeast, a winter storm warning was also issued for parts of north eastern ohio, 3 to 7 inches of snow forecasted. the nor'easter turned up strong winds some up to 50 miles an hour, knocked down trees and branches, 1600 residents of long island are without power. storm caused plenty of disruptions drenching most of east coast with several inches of rain. some in new jersey navigated through flooded roads last night. the downpour is a welcome sight parts of the northeast received below normal rainfall for this time of year.
