trial. >> reporter: unshaven and with his hair dyed sat silently. the prosecutor said she's considering the death penalty. >> victims will be impacted by that decision so they will want to have and we will want their input. >> reporter: the 20 -- the 24-year-old is accused of killing 12 and injuring 58 after firing a hail of bullets during the midnight premiere of a batman sequel. investigators combing through his apartment tell abc news they found a computer and move evidence of a batman obsession including a poster and mask. they described the space as a bomb factory and death trap. >> this apartment was designed to kill whoever entered it. >> reporter: police found 30 potential bombs with a control panel. scores of bullets. 10 gallons of gasoline. after dropping out of his

the house either friends or family members of the couple distraught, falling to their knees screaming trying to barge into the house. whoever carried out these killings still on the loose. a neighbor says she saw a man running from the home but not much to go on. >> i don't know i'm shaken up about it. >> reporter: two people were shot dead in their home around 4:30 this morning in what is described as a nice quiet neighborhood north of downtown san jose. neighbors called 911 after hearing yelling and gunshots. >> they entered the house and found a male and female both adults we are not saying whether anybody was in the house. >> reporter: a neighbor says the couple has three young children and the family moved in about eight months ago. that same neighbor says she saw a man running from the house after the shooting but it was dark and she couldn't get a good look. >> we had information that the suspect may still be in the

area we have no specific information the suspect is in the area. if there's a possibility we have to conduct a search we call it a public safety search. >> reporter: there's not much evidence of the crime from the street just a broken window a chevy was towed from the street police won't say how it is connected. >> pretty upset about it. in the daytime it is a very quiet area. i guess at night the wolves come out. >> reporter: again, as for whoever carried out this double homicide, officers did search the neighborhood, they went door-to-door in a one block radius of this neighborhood. again, the person so far is still on the loose. as far as motive, the sergeant tells me is too early to know. katie marzullo, abc7 news. president obama is about to leave the bay area but he's returning a few hours later this afternoon for his latest campaign fundraising visit. live pictures now at sfo you
