we'll bring more information as soon as we get it. palo alto police looking into whether two sexual attacks were committed by the same person. the first assault happened august 20th in the middle of the day on fulton street.t.t. the other attack happened yesterday also around noon outside the stanford shopping center. terry mcsweeney with the lacest. >> reporter: palo alto police tell me they are increasing patrols here at the shopping center also in the neighborhood where the other tack occurred, not just uniformed police but undercover officers as well. the concern is the suspect is going to escalate his attacks. it was after noon yesterday when he struck a woman walking, a man comes out from between two parked cars gabs her breast and runs. last week on fulton street a woman was looking for her keys,

a man walked up, grabbed her buttocks and ran. police say both happened noon. >> the random nature of the attack. the quick grab of the victim's body and the immediate exodus all lead us to believe that it is likely could be the same person. >> reporter: police say the description matches. these are the sketches. suspect described as east indian, 30, 5'9, medium build in the recent assault he was wearing a yellow hood last week a varsity sports jacket. >> i have pepper spray, i am going to be carrying that. sometimes i think i talk on my phone when i walk won't do that any more. >> we try to pair off. >> reporter: police have a preliminary profile. >> somebody thrill seeking hopefully, somebody not doing

this in order to escalate to a more serious assault that would be the worst-case scenario and we hope that's not what this is. >> reporter: he tells me if the suspect were to be caught now he would be facing only misdemeanor sexual battery. had there been skin to skin contact or he tried to restrain his victims it would be a more serious charge. if he were caught with no record he may only get probation. police arrested this 18-year-old foster city man last saturday after he allegedly broke into a girl's house. the father discovered him in his daughter's room in the middle of the night and held him until officers arrived. the girl slept in her parents' room that night. he admitted that he broke into another girl's home on the same street earlier this month. in that case, fondled her through her clothing.

he's being held at the san mateo county jail on $100,000 bail on peeping, sexual battery and burglary. fire investigators in san jose trying to figure out what sparked a fire at a strip mall this morning before 5 a.m. on south capital near alum rock. when firefighters arrived smoke and flames were coming from a restaurant. that fire quickly spread to neighboring businesses. >> when you have a large building with a common attic sharing a lot of businesses, potential to lose the structure is high. we want if get a lot of resources here quickly. >> a restaurant, bridal shop and the tae qwan do studio were all damaged, nobody hurt. more evacuations underway in louisiana, a dam near the louisiana/mississippi border is in danger of failing. rising water is threatening the dam is mississippi. louisiana governor jindal has ordered buses to help evacuate

united airlines counter passed through tsa and had her passport stamped in germany. after she got to italy did she realize her passport expired a year ago. vicki went right to the u.s. consulate. >> first they said, you know you shouldn't travel if your passport is going to expire within the next six months. i said are you looking at my passport, it expired last year. they said how did you get here? i was wondering if you guys were gonna tell me that. >> reporter: travelers at sfo today are equally surprised. you have to strip down to nothing, shoes, jackets, belts, yet these things that you would think they would find, kind of escape notice. >> customs and immigration has to be more tightened up, passport is one of the major aspects of travel. >> reporter: i talked with a spokeswoman for united airlines she says the ticket agent at the counter should have caught the expired passport but it is the

passenger's responsibility to have the correct paperwork not to fly out of the u.s. but rather to prevent them from getting turned away when they get to another country. the tsa tells me they do not consider the incident a security breach. and in certain cases people can fly without a valid id in case of natural disaster or if they lose their id while traveling. they admit, a tsa officer should have noticed the expired passport and asked for another form of id. the consulate in italy gave her a new passport to fly home. >> i'm just one traveler, but who else is getting through? something obviously is amiss in the system >> reporter: at sfo, katie marzullo, abc7 news. millions of californians still plan to take a trip this upcoming labor day weekend. aaa predicts 3.7 million

"good morning america" anchor robin roberts is now on medical leave one day ahead of schedule. today was her last morning she left early to head to mississippi to be with her sick mother and her family in the hurricane zone. in july she was diagnosed with a blood and bone marrow disease she has shared her journey. she will check into the hospital next week her sister will be her donor. roberts says she will be back as soon as she can. >> it is what you carry in your heart that inspires me. george, sam, lara, josh, my
