>> live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> right now a desperate search for a young woman who vanished on new year's eve. good morning. >> the 19-year-old alyssa byrne disappeared after leaving the snowglobe music festival in south lake tahoe. her father is searching for her after she failed to return to the horizon casino in nevada. we are live in petaluma with the latest on the story. >> the ultimate good news is that alyssa byrne has been found. her father is up there watching the search-and-rescue effort. he is very impressed by what he

is seeing. here in petaluma, the entire town seems to be rallying around the missing girl. >> 2,585 members strong. with more adding on every minute. >> the father is amazed at facebook response. a couple of sightings since noon yesterday on the "find alyssa byrne page." she disappeared after going to a concert with friends. the last call was 11:30 and was seen at the hotel at midnight. then nothing. her mother is staying behind in petaluma in case she turns up here. word this morning is investigators will check bank records. >> at this point, they were considering even going door to door in the casinos to do a door to door-to-door check. 20 friends have driven to south

lake tahoe to get out the word. a close friend is headed to tahoe tomorrow and talked and texted with alyssa byrne on new year's eve and thought nothing of the sudden end until the next day to day when i saw the next day, has anyone seen alyssa byrne and i heard no one had seen her i was starting to get worried. >> it is not that unusual for a 19-year-old woman to take off but her mother says that is not the way her daughter operates. >> we are hoping she is indoors at this point. we are waiting to hear. waiting for her to come through the doors. >> the mother says that the days are far better than the nights as she waits to hear a word about her daughter. the family is feeling devastated and is nearly impossible to hold it together. >> certainly understandable, thank you. in south bay, families of

children kidnapped or murdered are launching a program to protect other children. now, this is in memory of polly kloss. >> this is right. today would be the 32nd birthday. rather than a party, though, her father is holding a press conference. he is announcing that he has created products over the past year to help prevent child abduction. or help parents be good first responders. one is a wrist watch that cannot be removed from a child with a g.p.s. in it. parents can then find them. and also, a cloud-based browser that protects kids online from predators and marketing. they are launching an app for the smartphone that helps keep parents connected. her father thinks this is a good start. >> we are always a step behind the bad guy, in question. what we can do is continue to develop tools, continue to

develop relationships. we get a handle on it. we are better than we used to be. we can certainly be better in the future in dealing with the issues than we have in the past. >> the foundation played a huge role in the search for the teen who disappeared in march so the press conference is held at this center's headquarters. this is in memory of polly kloss kidnapped from her bedroom at knife point in 1993. >> finally, they have created a fund for parents to help with the cost of housing when they are involved in any active search. all that is announced right here in morgan hill. mark kloss will give this everything he has. >> thank you. in san francisco, five armed men who stole money and electronics in a home invasion are still on the loose.

police say the men had a knife and handguns and stormed into a home on 40th avenue before 3:00 this morning. they took iphones and a laptop and an undisclosed amount of money. authorities have not said if the phone was targeted. there were no injuries. >> a fight between a man and his son in daly city resulted in both going to the hospital. police were called to the apartments to find the father was stabbed several times. his son suffered head trauma. no one saw what happened but the two victims. police are trying to figure out what set the men off. >> the hey proposal is accepting applications for the first time in three years this morning as they look for new officers in cyber space. you can apply online from now through saturday for chp, the first of many steps to become an officer. you can find a link on our website at www.abcabc7news.com

and new officers earn $67,000 a year after they finish the academy. >> today is a new going for students who survived the tragedy at sandy hook elementary school returning to school for the first time. they are now in a different building. they also have a lot of report. now live to the new sandy hook elementary school in monroe, connecticut. wendy? >> we are a mile away from the new school. an hour ago police held a news conference talking about the school day saying it was routine, calling it "mundane." nothing happened. that is the kind of school day they wanted. >> school buses pulled to a different building this morning, but most of the faces inside will be the same faces, like first grader, lauren, and her brother, dalton, in 4th grade. the mother followed the bus and will stay with lauren the entire day. >> i am not to the part about

>> in washington, dc, right now, representative speaker boehner was relative letted and sworn in as speaker of the house of representatives happening right after the 113th congress convenes. here is the speaker at the podium talking to the congress. the new lawmakers include two representatives from the san francisco bay area and a record number of women. abc7 news reporter joins us now. >> minutes ago we wanted john boehner shake hands on the floor receiving 220 votes with nine fellow republicans voting against him. does that signal another two years of bitter debate? or will the newly diverse delegation work together better than the last?

mostly sunny this afternoon, a few more high clouds, not as cold the next couple of days and rain is looking more and more likely saturday and into sunday. we will top out in the mid-to-upper 50's, close to where we should be. headed to monterey, temperatures in the low 60's. tonight, we will see not so many 20's but there will be some, a lot of low to upper 30's and frost is less likely around the bay mid-30's to mid-40's. area high pressure is still dominating our weather and getting hit by the system passing to the north. high pressure is holding on and keeping the storms away but on saturday morning, here are the cloud cover that comes in to keep the temperatures up. by 1:00 o'clock or 2:00, this is the fastest computer models bringing the rain in. we will adjust this. saturday afternoon is going to be wet. saturday evening will have light-to-moderate rain and yellow will develop. this will last until 10:00, and
