joins us. they know another colleague who was attacked. >> that is right. they are dealing with this shooting of their colleague, quinn boyer, they are reminded of another attack two years ago to this day. paramedic was nearly beaten to death at the san francisco giants opening day game at dodger stadium. it is a somber day at santa clara county ambulance as quinn boyer is in critical condition in oakland. >> today we are dealing with a tragedy. we are learning about it and helping employees cope. >> in are grief counselors. their highly regarded co-worker of two years was off duty and shot in the head on keller avenue. a man in a brown car opened fire on his car. this is video showing where the 34-year-old paramedic crashed down into a ravine after

speeding off and slamming into a median. police are trying to figure what triggered the brazen shooting. >> we are trained to get to this situation and deal with these emotional and traumatic injuries. it is still difficult when it is a brother. >> another brother worked with many of the emergency responders here, the san francisco giants fan was severely wheaten at the stadium two years ago. >> many employees were close to him and are still close to him so it is just another tragedy to hit many our co-workers. >> no one would hope for this to happen. the situations are very difficult. we see this every day as paramedics but it is not...it is not something we would expect to see happen to us. >> oakland police are still in need of any additional witnesses who can offer up tips to them as they continue the manhunt for the shooter or shooters and

search for a motive. reporting live from san jose for abc7 news. >> developing news, napa police have identified a man who was shot and wounded by an officer during an altercation last night. the 37-year-old ramirez is hospitalize with a gun wounds to the chest. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has more on what led up to the shooting live at the sheriff's office. >> the suspect was severely wounded but is expected to survive. the sheriff says that the napa police officer fired on the suspect when he tried to make an arrest. >> i was in the restaurant eating and all of a sudden we heard the ambulance come by. >> frank was having dinner at the diner on tuesday when a gunshot was heard. suddenly, police converged on a parking lot across from the home depot. they had this intersection blocked off. that was blocked off. blocked off down there. >> napa county undercover

narcotics team was watching a car with three men inside. that included 37-year-old suspect ramirez. >> they approached the vehicle to arrest the suspect with the warrant for violation of probation on assault with a deadly weapon case. a struggle ensued between one of the officers and the suspect. the shot was tired. >> a napa police officer shot ramirez once in the chest. he was taken to the hospital. the officer placed on leave. the sheriff says that ramirez was wanted on a probation violation after trying to kill his wife with a 7" knife. the shooting has left frank rattled and has napa has changed. >> when i was a kid growing up here you could go to bed at night with your front doors opened and unlock. you could it is on your porch at night. now you are -- it is not safe for people to walk around the streets for fear someone will get mugged or robbed or shot.

>> the napa county sheriff investigating the police officer involved who was not hurt. ramirez is expected to survive but could face new charges of assault on a police officer. we are live in napa for abc7 news. >> an update to a story we have fold all morning, a stabbing in oakland. police now say that the man probably took his own life. officers were caused to international boulevard at 23rd after 5:00 a.m. they found a man with head injuries and multiple stab wounds and died at the hospital. his name has not been released. >> a prayer service after the weekend shooting of a college athlete shot on saturday morning. investigators think the shooter mistook the student for a gang member. so far, there are no arrests in the case. the family says he was a star athlete and an honor student at archbishop riordan high school before playing football at lewis

and clark in portland. there is a prayer service at the shooting scene. >> chevron says they have completed repairs to the richmond refinery after the big fire last year that broke out in august, damaging the unit for full operation of the refinery. chevron tells "contra costa times" it is waiting approval to restart the cute oil processing unit. the board of chevron is cutting the pay for the chief executive because of what they call "operating incidents" last year. >> caltran will reinspect hundreds of parts of the bay bridge on the east span, and the company behind the steel rods that bloke. dyson corporation made or supplied the bolts that went into construction of the new $6.5 billion span. last week, caltran disclosed a
