fence to get into the convention. five were arrested. trump tweeted that the california protesters are thugs and criminals and should be dealt with strongly by law enforcement. leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. john kasich spoke about keeping america fresh, exciting, innovative and based on opportunity. >> now i'm running for president with the same ideas, same initiatives to give people a chance to rise and, most particularly, to begin fixing this economy because it is just really terrible. >> reporter: kasich said the health care system needs to be more transparent to the people and we need to track kell the drug problem plaguing our nation. hillary clinton is scheduled to be in the bay area next week. she'll be campaigning from her first california headquarters at 14th and franklin in downtown oakland. the office opened on thursday. the democratic presidential

candidate will make a stop in l.a. this coming thursday and then it's on to oakland on friday. meantime, u.s. senator bernie sanders' presidential campaign also has an office in oakland in the rockridge neighborhood located at college and broadway. this is the candidates second office in the state. sanders campaign opened the first los angeles office earlier this month. the california presidential primary takes place on june 7th. gusty winds hit the bay area today. in san jose, the wind proved to be too strong for the relay for life event. canopies were being whipped about. 15 to 20 of the tents were blown over. organizers had to take the cloth off the remaining canopies. e volunteer said everyone was in shock that the wind hit so fast and so strong. >> i saw a cloud of dust swirling above the whole event. immediately, i saw most of the canopies tipped over and people

scrambling. >> there were no reports of any injuries. in the north bay, crews will work into the night to clean up this big mess, an estimated 100-foot tall oak tree crushed three parked cars. no one was hurt. >> we're going to make sure no other trees fall. >> the fallen tree did minor roof damage to one home but it's still structural sound. there's a detour for drivers in the area. and taking a live look outside right now, the winds have died down and it's very dry. however, we could see a little rain later this week. this april rain hit part of the bay area while other parts were unseasonably dry. let's check in with meteorologist drew tuma. how unusual is that, drew? >> we're talking about the rainfall for the last 30 days, eric, and really the second half

of the viewing area was a jock pot. these areas saw above normal rainfall. the north bay, unfortunately, you can see, only saw half to two-thirds of their normal rainfall. today it wasn't the rain. it was the wind. the winds have been with us for much of the week. from sunday until friday. you will notice peak wind gusts. they have current wind speeds less than 15 miles per hour and comi coming in creating a wide range of temperatures for our sunday. the next chance of rain in the next part of the forecast. >> drew, thanks a lot. the great highway has been closed on and off because wind pushed sand onto the road. people were worried about strong sneaker waves and rip currents. an advisory expired moments ago. extra beach patrols were out. one person had to be pulled in

from the water to land today. however, many chose to stay out of the water altogether. >> it just looks rougher when it would come out, i guess. >> if you go out too far, i'd say ten feet out there, you can get sucked under and that's when the problem starts. and so they are definitely patrolling but there are people going too far out. >> just two weeks ago, two teenagers from vallejo high school drowned at ocean beach after a wave knocked them down. it's a reminder to beach goers about the danger of the waves which could be 10 to 13 feet tomorrow. in san jose, a man is in jail accused of shooting and killing his wife on indigo oakland just before 1:00 this morning. police found 40-year-old sonia nallan shot at least once. her husband james has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

after tomorrow, one of mountain view's three remaining independent book stores will be closing and looking for a new location. there was one last warehouse sale. the store has been in business at this location for more than 22 years. the owner is looking for a new location here in the bay area. he was forced to move after his rent shot up more than 100%. he says he isn't upset and understands the need to adapt and he has this message for long-time customers. >> i just say thank you. it's been great. we don't want to leave mountain view or castro street but times have changed and we have to adapt if we are going to stay alive and we are determined to stay alive. >> reporter: he's hoping to raise $35,000 on go fund me to pay for the move. book buyers will be opened from 11:00 until 3:00. still ahead on abc 7 news at 9:00, the unprecedented fire of

poaching after an estimated 70% of elephants in central africa have been killed over the last ten years. well, president obama's two terms will end early next year. tonight, at the white house correspondents' dinner, president obama took the mike for the last time. he roasted the crop of the current presidential candidates. >> i am hurt though, bernie, that you've been distancing yourself from me. that's just not something that you do to your comrade. hillary trying to appeal to young voters is a little bit like your relative who signed up for facebook. did you get my poke? is it appearing on your wall? and there's one area where donald's experience could be helpful. that would be closing guantanamo. because he knows a thing or two about running a water front property into the front.

we head into sunday as well. overnight tonight, plenty of stars out there. it's going to be a mild night with numbers in the 60s and 70s. vallejo, pretty warm. 58 degrees. we talked about 54 in palo alto. 52 in santa rosa and san jose at 53 degrees. future tracker temperatures, quickly warming under total sunshine. mid- and upper 70s and we'll continue to warm into the afternoon. by 3:00, 4:00, locations are inland and wore going into the mid-80s in a lot of spots. the coast, though, with the sea breeze kicking in, it's going to be limited to the 60s. a wide range in temperatures tomorrow afternoon. looking at the pollen forecast with this dry and warm air, moderate level for the next four days. poke, olive and pine tree along with grasses. keep taking the allergy medication. no relief in the next four days. head to the beach and get relief

into the water. join us at 11:00. this is an unusual call for firefighters in fresno. 11 baby ducklings fell into a storm drain and got trapped and somebody spotted they're frantic mother running around and stopping traffic. firefighters got all of the babies out safely. one firefighter says his job is oh to save lives, be it human or animal. good way to go about your job. i like that. gentlemen, thank you very much. thank you for joining us. for abc 7 news at 9:00, our next newscast is at 11:00 on abc 7. for updates at any time, download our app.
