last night the mendocino county sheriff said the crash scene is now classified as a crime scene. officials have already said they believe this was an intentional act. authorities are examining a cell phone found at the crash site. investigators found the suv last wednesday along with the bodies of two women and three of their adoptive children. the other three are still missing. there is cautious optimism in the city of richmond as they move into their fifth straight month with zero homicides. the police keefe credits community relations for the turn around. here is leslie brinkley with the story. >> this is the scene of the last murder in richmond back on november 14th, 2017 in the hill top green neighborhood. two people died. irene per dom o cousin was one. >> i'm grateful there haven't been more homicides. but i also know there is more work to be done and that the fight isn't over. >> since november there have been many shootings in richmond

that dodge charger, that's the focus of investigators' attention right now. the investigators tell me there was a female driver. and they were chasing that car when suddenly it stopped at the intersection and the male passenger got out of that car, started running. and here is what a witness had to say happened. >> there was an undercover police officers and that the they approached it and the individual ran. and he pulled a gun on them. and he told them to drop it and he fired shots at officers. >> reporter: and after that, other witnesses also told me that the suspect fired the first shot at officers who then returned fire. another person told me that it sounded like a war zone out here, that there were a lot of bullets flying. there was a u-haul truck hilt by bullets. two other cars in the area also
